Actually on this note, Kevin smith recently interviewed one of the writers of hop. He wrote a screenplay that was ficking genius, and is stuck in a drawer at a studio. A simple concept. You know how all kids know that to be safe from the monsters under the bed, you hide under the sheets? Well the monsters kidnap the parents so the kids form an army, their uniforms/armor are bedsheets and they go on an adventure to save their parents.

[–]captainstagneti 12 points13 points ago

This screenplay was written in the 90s. Just passing the story along, not taking credit. But yes essentially that. But cuter cause it's more like the hobbit, and it's kids wearing bedsheet capes, aka what kids actually do for fun, not build rocket ships some deucheu with weird hair built lol

[–]lumpy1981 5 points6 points ago

I think you could make a great screen play based off of this picture. A toy story like movie where the stuffed animals kids sleep with protect them from monsters at night.

[–]captainstagneti 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It is a screenplay, it's sitting in the desk of some studio. The guy who wrote "Hop" wrote it. I heard about it....two(ish) weeks ago on kevin smiths podcast. Trust me I ain't that creative to think of that

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The real question is, after I write the screenplay do I owe you anything when I sell it?

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That would be a story from Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson. Incidentally, that's one of my favorites from the series.

[–]phaserjunkie 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You have favorites? I have all his collections and back ups at various relative places. Just in case something happens to the original ones I bought. Still read them every day.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I should clarify. It's one of my VERY favorites. I've enjoyed the series since childhood when I had to literally fight people to get the books at the school library.

I appreciate you linking the artist's page, but why not just use the original DeviantArt page as your submission? I think they can handle the traffic there just fine.

[–]IkoIkoComic 85 points86 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

dA dev here.

By all means, use the original deviantArt page as your submission. We can handle the traffic just fine, and artists love to be favourited/commented/paid attention to - pretty sure the entire dAconomy runs on ego.

pretty sure the entire dAconomy runs on ego.

This is actually kind of why I stopped going there a few years ago. Every comment on my work was basically "That's great, you should check out mine!"

[–]Quazifuji 18 points19 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Maybe it's just me, but Deviant Art links don't work for me at least half the time.

[–]lumpy1981 6 points7 points ago

Also, Devian Art is often blocked at people's work. It is at mine at least.

[–]vadoo 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So DA is blocked and reddit it allowed?

[–]Omenege 14 points15 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Completely fair point. But I'd rather have the link be to the original page and then the top comment be "and here's an imgur mirror if you have trouble with the DA page."

[–]Quazifuji 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That would certainly work.

[–]scottb84 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think either is fine. The important point is that the artist is credited.

I’ve often wondered why so few artists sign the work that they put online or include a small URL. It seems to me that would save a lot of trouble. For example.

i can't believe people use deviant art. to this day i still have a negative reaction whenever someone tries to link me. i tell them "no." guess back in its hayday, there were too many 12 year old girls and myspacers trying to pimp out their goods and i was a young 20 something who couldn't stand its "ick" factor.

[–]Quazifuji 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The site's got some weird connotations (both in its name and many of the people who use it), but it does seem like a pretty solid site for amateur artists (or even professional ones) to show off their work. It's like Myspace for bands - the site's reputation doesn't stop it from being a useful publicity tool.

His name is Fred. I got him within the first few weeks of my life, and he rarely left my side through my childhood.

I'm 26 now amd getting married in 2 months, and I know exactly where he is. And there ain't no way in hell I'm passing him on to my new little niece.

He swore an oath of protection to me and my direct bloodline many years ago.

I'll get a photo later this afternoon. He has a face only a mother (or child) could love .

I gave my stuffed lion to my son, but during a VERY rough patch between his mother and I she threw it away. I can't tell you how much I wish I'd known when it happened,I'd be like Ewan Mcgregor in the toilet scene to get that lion back and give him back to my boy.

This reminds me of the Neal Gaiman story about the cat that would fight off bad luck as it came to his house. The cat would get mauled a bit each night and the house would prosper. Then they would bring the cat in to tend it and bad things would happen again.

Sad but cute.

There's an absolutely incredible comic called the Stuff of Legend, about a boy who gets dragged away by the bogeyman, and his toys have to come rescue him. It's very much in this style, and one of the best things currently in print. There are some great examples in their flickr stream.

I also thought of this series when I opened this link, but I do not share the same enthusiasm as everybody else for the series.

The art for The Stuff of Legend is wonderful. It really creates a fantastic setting. On the other hand the story lacks something. I can't put my finger on it, but I think it is the lack of humor for the situation. Almost as if it takes it self way to seriously.

On the other hand I started reading it after a comic series Chew, which I was completely blown away by.

I wish Pixar would pick this up as their next movie, like a bunch of kids in an orphanage with teddy bears and at night the teddy's form like en elite BEAR team and fight monsters to protect the sleeping kids..

That's the amazing thing. Cars (to me) was by far the worst Pixar movie. It's like a "D" rated Pixar movie.

But it was still pretty good. Compared to all the other movies out there it comes out to about a B. Amazing. This is why I'll continue to watch Pixar movies no matter if it looks that interesting to me or not. At least until they release 2 true stinkers.

I have heard that very young children absolutely love it, and that Pixar was going for a younger audience than the rest of their movies. That's why it was a simple story with simple jokes and simple animation. I disliked it compared to the rest of their movies, but it makes sense if it really is for a younger audience.

There's a lot of nice looking CGI out there (How to Train Your Dragon comes to mind) but it would sure be nice to see more hand-drawn stuff, like old-school Disney or Ghibli.

[–]farfigneugan 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yeah, the last really really good fully hand drawn that I know of (not that I keep track of these things) was "The Princess and the Frog". I really would love to see more of that, too.

Speaking of, does anybody remember "Reboot"? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108903/

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]GunRaptor 1 point2 points ago

A million times this. I really think that CGI is great, but some old school style could really shake things up. I imagine a studio of retro "hand artists" coming to prominence in 2032, and all of the CGI studios being all like "wow, hand drawn animation. How original in this day and age!"

[–]kikuchiyoali 1 point2 points ago

There's a great Ghibli movie in the pipe-line - The Borrower Arietty. Came out in Japan last summer (where I saw it twice in the theaters), but it's hand-drawn and so beautiful. I'm not sure what the deal is with a wonky American schedule is, but the DVD and blu-ray is coming out in Japan this summer, so I expect it'll float up to the torrent sites.

That's just adorable. I can still remember being so small that I banged my teddy bear
on the ground whenever I swung my arms. I loved him so much that I would blow him
as kiss goodbye, whenever I had to leave him behind for school. Me and Teddy fucked
up one day when I tried to sneak him into school. I had cleverly shoved him in my ass
hole neighbor's backpack and told him not to tell. While on the bus he undid his zipper
on his pack and showed the other kids. The driver saw and took Teddy. I had to come
up with some lame excuse about "forgetting" to leave him at home. All little kids suck
at keeping secrets I guess.

Actually, I think this can't be turned in a movie or a cartoon or anything moving. There won't be much to show. There's just something about that picture that makes it look like they're already in action, just like in a mexican standoff of some sort.

THIS WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT VIDEO GAME!
You're a cute cuddly teddy bear named Franklin. All day you're lifeless to your owner but when the night time comes around. All night the Boogy-man tries to sabotage little Susie's day by putting gum in her hair, tying her shoe laces together, stealing toys, etc. But then here comes Franklin to the rescue! Saving valuables from being flushed down the drain, finding stolen items, and rescuing other toys.
I think it'd be a fun spin on a RPG.

I stole mine from my mother when I was about 1. He is 24/25 (I am 22). If I'm going somewhere for a long time, he comes too.

Oh, and he's gay. He's never told me but I'm forever waking up with him between my legs or his ass in my face. He knows I'm straight; I think he just does it for shits and giggles. I don't mind, though - if he's biting the faces off dragons whilst I sleep I can forgive him.

I had a stuffed monkey my Aunt gave me when I was born. His name was "Monkey" and for years I really felt this way about him. This post made me go to my old trunk and dig him out after all these years. He's now sitting on a shelf in my home office. Thanks for reuniting me with my childhood for a moment.

That teddy bear is way too small to feed the dragon's appetite. Will probably just get his metabolism going in time to eat the little kid and then everyone else in the house.
