Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I wouldn't say that is racist, it's pretty clearly mocking the justice system's hard on for sending blacks to jail.

I don't think it's the justice system, but rather society in general.

There are socioeconomic factors (poverty, inner-city culture, proximity to crime) that make it more likely for a black guy to become a criminal than is the case for a white guy.

So even if the justice system is 100% accurate in its execution of the law, the cards are stacked against black folks...or so proponents of this commentary might argue.

That is also true, but it's also very intentional and systemic. I mean you can flat out find quotes from the end of the jim crow laws talking about how new laws being passed were flat out replacements. Things like felon disenfranchisement

While that may be true, I think it makes the most sense to consider this as a commentary on contemporary social issues.

His point I believe is that laws designed specifically to target blacks and other minority groups are still on the books.

Jim Crow holdovers?

As of CRA '64 and VRA '65, yes.

But I could be mistaken.

you know that 1 in 4 black people in kentucky can't vote because of disenfranchisement, do you think that is just a really weird coincidence?

but the fact that they can't vote may not be a reflection of the law. perhaps the source of this kind of racial inequity is social rather than legal.

They also make them pick cotton, you have to be crazy to think that when segregation ended that all the people in power that wanted it just evaporated and went away. I mean you can flat out find quotes saying these laws are jim crow replacements.

Earlier I mentioned CRA '64 and VRA '65. These have been taken by the courts to mean that public racial discrimination is unlawful. Some forms of private discrimination have also been rendered illegal by the same mechanism.

Send criminals to jail you say? Preposterous!

You do realize not everyone who appears in court committed a crime, right? Even if they plead guilty.... sometimes it's cheaper to just plead guilty, take a shorter sentence (maybe entirely suspended), and pay a fine, than it is to fight it. Lawyers are expensive and the legal process takes forever. It does not cater to people who don't have the funds or ability to fight charges. (See: poor people)

At least we live in a society that has a court system. Even if it is fucked up beyond recognition.

A repost of a repost! Go to jail. Directly to jail.

Good bit of satire. I think the Daily Show would use it in the right context.

Just call it "Urban Monopoly" and you're in the clear.

There exists a fine line between racism and satire. The "fuckin pros", if you will, draw the line very very thin and walk it like... a fuckin pro.

actually it is only half right... this is the version for men. the women increasingly are going to college and marrying white guys.
