it looks like it is in a tank with other baby turtles. in the wild you wouldnt see them grouped like this. my guess is a zoo or something will take it and exhibit it instead of letting go into the wild like the other ones seeing as it would get picked off quickly anyway.

More likely it's a turtle farm. Turtles live long, need huge aquaria and zoo's don't need them in large numbers. So even zoo's are happy to leave turtle breeding to the farms.

Most of them die anyway. I once witnessed a turtle nest hatch, and hundreds of them where walking towards the sea. Within minutes a shit-ton of birds arrived, but we kept them away. However I'm sure that the moment they entered those waters a lot of hungry fish were waiting.

One of them got a heart attack too I guess, it just stopped running on its way to the water. First time I buried a turtle that day...

It's not necessarily destined for an early death. Check out this albino alligator, Luna, who lives comfortably in captivity. Or Migaloo the only whale of it's kind that managed to survive it's first few years, and is now going strong.

ALL animals are most vulnerable when they're children, and most predators seek out the young or the old and weak. The whole point is that in the wild, an albino is very unlikely to make it to adulthood.

The odd highlighting effect is due to the water the turtles are swimming in, and the fact that parts of their heads, backs and flippers are poking out of the water in places. It is a photo, but now that you've pointed it out to me, I can see why it might look like a painting.
