Background: this guy was charged with arson for burning the car, but ultimately video surveillance (captured by an acquaintance of mine) showed that he tried to PUT OUT the fire. Charges were withdrawn.

That car was abandoned in the middle of the street by the police very early on the first day of the weekend. Think about it. Why would the police leave a car in the middle of the street on the first day of the weekend the G20 was meeting in Toronto?

The car was planted as a media prop. The police wanted it to be vandalized.

      How would that have embarrassed the police? The media doesn't exactly go around producing stories about all the times that vans didn't get burned. What excuses the vandalization are the actions of the police leading up to and during the g20 protests, where they repeatedly violated the law and the civil liberties of the people of Toronto. What would excuse people stealing shit from your open door would be you being an apologist for the police state, and a little bit of a bitch.

              I actually saw this guy twice. Once the night before the protests, he was riding a very small bicycle with a cape, goggles and that trumpet. He asked me and my friend if we wanted to go party in a park because 'they had set up a hippy city'.

              Then the next day, I saw him balance on a statue wearing only a leather jacket and those pants he has on in the pic. That guy was fucking legendary. There's video of him somewhere online in that police car I believe yelling shit over the PA.

              EDIT: Going through my G20 photos. I'll post the pic of him on the statue, also here he is being crazy with some power lines: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/293907 The title of the video is misleading, this guy was far from suicidal. I'm happy this post came up, because I thought I was one of the only people who still remembered this character.

                  I remember seeing him on the street where this picture was taken, early Saturday afternoon. He was using the loudspeaker in the car to give a "speech". There was broken glass everywhere (safety hazard), and two streets over there were dozens of police officers standing around doing nothing.

                      I was there, it was... interesting. Biggest danger there was actually not the riot police - it was the idiots that would blindly bolt backwards and risk trampling other protesters/spectators.

                      Oh, and the explain the charge: before the anthem, an officer came up and asked to protesters to stay behind a certain point. At the end of the anthem, you can see protesters moving up past that invisible line and sitting down, which I believe initiated the charge. I'm not trying to say that the significant display of force was justified - just trying to give a bit more background info.

                      They did rush a second time a little while later, but by that time most people calmly walked backwards.

                            This is my friend! Cortez Savagedragon is what is known as, I don't want to post his real name... This is during the Toronto G20 protest, he brought a trumpet because he really IS that weird...

                            He didn't start the fire, he was dancing and stripping on top of the cop car and it started on fire from someone throwing something inside it.

                            He was arrested for this, but JUST recently the charges were dropped, because there was enough evidence that he didn't start the fire.
