As a recurve shooter myself, trained under Olympic coaches, and having shot with many Olympic shooters, the form of the shooter is quite poor. Yeah, it would make sense given the outcome, but his form is really bad. He wouldn't be able to hit that size target at that distance in a normal situation, let alone putting the target on a living person and doing it on a TV show. Mainly, I'm looking at how the string isn't drawn back enough, and how stiff his elbow is upon release. That's how someone shoots a bow after a week or so of training.

I've seen this occasionally in movies and TV. Most times they don't bother to train the actor and their form is abysmal. Other times they train for a while to look legit enough. I can't say I've ever seen a film or show that has a bow shot with even a half-way decent form. Even with training the actors just hit all the points, but it's the follow-through that takes real practice and as such doesn't show unless you have an actual archer.

I've found a video here of what the form is supposed to look like. Notice, also, how the bow reacts after release. It's supposed to be loose. A good archer holds the bow with an open fist.

Why I think it's fake--it switches to the reactions of the panel. That's a post-production thing. Somebody stitched together two videos. If this were a leak it wouldn't have gone through production like that. And obviously they wouldn't have planned to show it if the guy really died.

Also, I think the can contains a mechanism that simulates an arrow strike--the arrow pops out of the can. The other arrow disappears into the bow.
