I'm inclined to agree. I've seen a number of these done, but what I've never seen is an accompanying photo from an offset angle showing the model obviously painted.

When people showcase the forced perspective street paintings, or perspective-based art, they always have a second photo off-axis to show how magical the on-axis view is. But never with these types of photos. No off-axis photos, no "in progress" photos, no pics of the model standing up afterwards.

Which really makes me call shenanigans.

You mean the story with accompanying video that shows it's a real car that's been painted? Also, cars don't move while you're painting them.

This is an incredibly simple thing to prove - just post two photos: one like the linked photo, and another taken about the same time from a different angle. Or take the photo and at the same time have someone with a video camera walking around behind the camera man.

But until I see that, I'm going to be skeptical.

As an experienced photoshopper, I disagree. The organic shapes and variety of color in the dappling screams real paint; it's most obvious in the contrast between the textures of the grass and concrete where her calves intersect them. In addition, the wrought iron on her stomach is more of an interpretation of the nearby wrought irons' shapes than an exact recreation; even the warp tool wouldn't easily produce such free form results while maintaining the fine lines that are still apparent within the rosettes on her stomach.

TL;DR: It's real. It's just a pain in the ass to do.

I'm a designer/illustrator by trade, and work almost exclusively in Photoshop and Painter, so I'm well aware of the brush tool. The fact that I've used them for so long is exactly why I know the image is real. Even the most intricate custom brushes in the hands of a skilled digital painter lack certain quirks of natural media. Especially when the canvas is flesh.

The alignment of the iron arm-rest is suspicious, but then there are irregularities too, particularly in her right arm. Those slight mismatches would be easy enough to forge but it's hard to tell.

Who knows.
