Ah, I guess that makes a lot of sense. I was going to say that floodwaters are usually ridiculously unhealthy to wade/swim in due to all the debris and sewage that accumulates.

Relevant: last year I was at the pub at the end of my street and a cutie regular was seated next to me. I asked why she was out on a Monday (she was usually only there on weekends) and she explained that due to flooding, the only way to get to her place was by boat, and her uncle who ran the boat was already exhausted from ferrying folks home all day.

It's "Green Lake" in Austria. It's not a flood. It's an alpine lake that's dry for part of the year, and fills up from snowmelt in the spring. It's clear because of the rocky substrate, low flow rate (no silting) and cold mountain temperatures (no algae blooms).

I imagine it does if the wet season is long enough. It just 1) takes a lot longer to turn brown when underwater, and perhaps 2) the photo was taken shortly after the spring melt.

I remember reading about a lake that had engulfed a whole village in Italy in the Middle Ages. Now people could scuba dive in it and they could look around it's remains (the visibility looked great too).

I'm surprised the plants survive being submerged that long. I suppose it must be the cold temperature (and high oxygen level) of the water that allow them to survive.
