This reminds me of a encounter between a praying mantis and my beagle. (Note: The only reason I was reminded of this happening is because there was a praying mantis involved. This has nothing to do with camouflaging.)

My beagle wanted to go outside, so I hooked her leash to her collar and opened the door. We both noticed a praying mantis walking on the driveway. She had never, to the best of my knowledge, encountered such a creature before. So, her beagle-ly curiousness drove her forward to thoroughly inspect the aforementioned mantis. The praying mantis didn't exactly appreciate being sniffed and poked at by a curious beagle and started standing up as tall as it could and raising its forelegs. My dog obliviously continued her examination until, suddenly, this once interesting new potential friend turned enemy. The mantis had launched its attack. It successfully hit my poor beagle right on her nose. In her surprise, she yelped and shook her head, sending the mantis flying straight for me. Luckily, the mantis-missile and I did not collide. It landed on the steps leading to the door a few inches from me. I decided this would be a good time to go back inside, but watched the rest through the screen door. Disoriented and alarmed by its sudden flight, the mantis moved from the steps and scurried away through the grass. My beagle still followed it for a while. However, an important lesson was learned this day. This time she cautiously kept a bit of distance between the herself and her attacker.

(Note #2: My beagle was fine. She yelped out of surprise and her nose was not damaged.)
