Put it like this; I used to use FunnyJunk, when I was 10. I haven't used it for over 7 years, and now use Reddit because clearly, Reddit is awesome. What does that say about FJ's userbase, If I remember thinking it was 'pretty cool' when i was 10 years old? I'm nearly 18 now, and I think It's a pile o' shite.

I think the difference is that funnyjunk acts like they made the comic whereas when you download music illegally, nobody claims they made the music since the artist's name is the selling point.

Am I the only one that rages every time I see "F7U12"? The point isn't that there are 7 fs and 12 u's. The point is that it's an elongated "FU". You could call it a "FFFUUUU" comic and in my mind it would be just as valid. Who the hell counts them? Not me! I don't need to know how many of each letter there are, if I want to visit that subreddit I'll just click the link at the top.

Observe. A commonly used rageface. How many f's? I didn't count, but there are sure a hell more than 7. Why in the hell do you think it needs to be 7? It doesn't!

TL;DR Quit counting the letters.

I don't really understand your comment. F7U12 just a title. It's used to put all the rage comics in ONE area. It's like you're saying yeah I don't like /r/trees because it's about marijuana and that you are disappointed that there are no trees in the subreddit.

No, the title is not F712U, it's FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU. F7U12 is what a bunch of people type instead of the title. It changes the pronunciation from FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU To "F SEVEN U TWELVE" which sounds RETARDED. The point of the title is not that there are exactly 7 F's and exactly 12 U's, the point is that it is a giant FU.

Furthermore, your analagy is terribly inconsistant with the point I am making, because the title of the subreddit is NOT F7U12. That is the point I am making. If the title of the subreddit was F7U12, and there were a bunch of ragecomics inside, I would not be dissappointed that there were no F7U12's inside, because F7U12 sounds RETARDED. I'm not saying the title has to perfectly mach what's in the subreddit, I'm saying quit telling me how many letters there are, I'm old enough to count.

That's not an abbreviation, it uses characters outside the original word. "FU" could be considered an abbreviation. and if you go to /r/f712u, you have to click on a link that takes you to /r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu anyways, so you might as well just go to reddit and add click on the link at the top.

Sorry there's no subreddit called /r/FU for rage comics. Anyways I like F7U12. I have tons of shirts with that screaming guy face with F7U12 under it. It's pretty sweet and I picked it up from that funkyjunk website which is halarious! (I'm 100% sure everything there is original).

I realize this is a principle thing, but there is no way FJ is getting "six figure advertising checks." All of the "free site valuation" estimates that suggest they are worth thousands of dollars a day in impressions are wildly exaggerating the CPM of the kinds of ads FJ is running.

FunnyJunk was seriously a big thing back in the day, it filled a similar niche to what Reddit does today, but it existed before before user-submitted-content websites were ever conceptualized. To my knowledge it was pretty much one guy managing a purely HTML site with minimal advertisements posting links to weird pictures that ended up on the internet. The website has evolved along side the internet to become the monstrosity that it is today. The TL;DR has nothing to do with any of what I just wrote, but it's still the most important point.

TL;DR I would reckon that most of the people who browse FunnyJunk are young, immature, and probably unaware of Reddit, so don't fucking tell them about it.

I agree, but this is why people put copyright notices on their images. So if it's spread around, they can still get credit for it. Funny Junk has been photoshopping out these notices and making money off of the ads, which is a pretty blatant violation of copyright law.

FunnyJunk is older than reddit, think I discovered it when I was 13 and having the Internet was new and shiny and everyone has MSN and Limewire and no-one had heard of YouTube. If you wanted funnies in 2003 and you were 13 years old, FJ was the shit. They stole all the stuff on there though, but I didn't care I was 13, I WAS ON THE INTERNET.
