Year the first online game was played: Sometime after October 29, 1969. The very fact that the gif is depicting an online multiplayer game by showing players join and leave makes it impossible for it to have existed before the internet.

Is this gif older than the internet? No. You missed by anywhere from 1 second to 41 and a half years, but most likely by about 35 years.
