Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

Teddy Roosevelt is my #1 favorite american hero. The man founded national fucking parks. He kept snakes and badgers as pets. In case you didn't know, badgers are vicious little bastards that have a talent for maiming a man's balls with a quick stroke. TR kept the fucker as a pet. Rough Ridin, hard livin', epic every day. Teddy Roosevelt had a fairly minor flesh wound. 50 Cent got shot multiple times in the face.

I don't like 50 Cent much, and the comparison is funny, but the two events are barely comparable to each other.

Not true at all. Only got shot once in the cheek and it only fucked up his wisdom tooth and made his tongue swell up,

An assailant then walked up to Jackson's left side with a 9mm handgun and fired nine shots at close range. He was shot nine times: in the hand (a round hit his right thumb and came out of his little finger), arm, hip, both legs, chest, and left cheek. The face wound resulted in a swollen tongue, the loss of a wisdom tooth, and a small slur in his voice. His friend also sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. They were driven to the hospital where Jackson spent thirteen days. Baum, the alleged shooter, was killed three weeks later.

And it wasnt a "fairly minor flesh wound" It was a flesh wound, but wasnt minor at all.

While Roosevelt was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1912, a saloonkeeper named John Schrank shot him, but the bullet lodged in his chest only after penetrating his steel eyeglass case and passing through a thick (50 pages) single-folded copy of the speech he was carrying in his jacket. Roosevelt, as an experienced hunter and anatomist, correctly concluded that since he wasn't coughing blood, the bullet had not completely penetrated the chest wall to his lung, and so declined suggestions he go to the hospital immediately

I just like how this completely blew away misterandon's post. He may have gotten shot 9 times, but NONE of it was in a vital area, Roosevelt got shot IN THE CHEST and decided he was fine and continued. Getting shot in the chest and having it not hit anything critical is pretty hard by itself.

Still pretty good at killing. The M1911 had just been released the year before, variants of which would remain in use by American armed forces well past the Vietnam War and are still reliable and effective guns today. Roosevelt was shot with a .38 revolver from close range, I don't think that any advances in handguns are going to make much of a difference there.

No, not really. Revolvers are still pretty much the most powerful handguns since they don't waste any energy in recoil mechanisms, etc. And revolvers have not changed much at all. You can still buy Colt 1911 model revolvers and they shoot as well as anything made today, and the ones made in 1912 are the same.

Recoil mechanisms???

If you're talking about this you're wrong. They do not "waste energy" used on the bullet, but rather use the opposing reaction to reload the weapon (reducing recoil).

If you're talking about this there is energy loss.

More energy is lost between the gap from cylinder and the barrel in a revolver though so your still wrong.

...but they are more powerful because they are designed around bigger cartridges. When you do that this happens.

I'm currently reading The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris. Perhaps one of the most entertaining, well-written and sometimes funniest book I've ever read..I would definitely recommend it! Bully! The shooting incident is probably in Theodore Rex, which I'll be reading next.

Let's not forget about our own modern hero, Sarah Palin, whose water broke hours before giving a speech in Texas, and who nonetheless gave the speech as scheduled, flew back to Alaska, then was driven to her hometown where she gave birth in a hospital with no neo-natal facilities.

Now that's so hardcore it would seem completely implausible if it was anybody else than Sarah Palin.

Generations from now, people will still wonder how this amazingly badass woman didn't become president of the USA sooner.
