I can't tell if you are being sarcastic, so here goes...

Yes, it's obviously fake. It's fairly well done, but it's still obviously fake.
First the visual clues: You never see him actually apply any ink, when he zooms in to the needle it conveniently looses focus only to get it back when he zooms back out again, in the next close-up shot you can't see the needle because it's hidden behind the ridge of his right eye, etc.
Then there are the clues you see if you know the tiniest bit about tattoos: a) you would never get a tattoo with as much ink as this one in one sitting, b) you don't get tattooed through hair - the hair by both ears and his eyebrows is right in the line of the ink, and they even tattoo right over it. They'd have removed all that before tattooing him, and c) the skin would be swollen as fuck.

a) you would never get a tattoo with as much ink as this one in one sitting.

Really? This much solid colour in one sitting, without having the outlines inked in a prior sitting? That's interesting, I didn't know people did that.

I know a couple of people who have tattoos and even a tattoo-artist, and they all say that you get outlines a couple of days before they're filled in, in order to be able to correct bleeding of the ink... It actually came up when this specific video first made its rounds.

edit: Just to be clear - what I'm saying is that it's interesting to hear different takes on this, I'm not implying that your tattoo artist made a mistake or anything like that. =)

If you get linework done first, you always wait two weeks for the tattoo to heal. If you don't, you don't know how much of the ink is going to fade and peel, and you'll only aggravate it by tattooing over it while it's still healing.

My two cents: I have a foot-long tribal on my arm that was done in one sitting. The tattoo guy did the outline, then we each had a cigarette, then he filled it in. There was no ink bleeding or any other issues.

That's funny, I went with my buddy and he got (i'd say a circumference of about 5 inch) clock (salidor dali style) done and he bled so bad they had to stop after about half an hour. Granted he had been boozing the night before but that shouldn't matter that much. Way to be cooler than my friend, which by proxy means I want to be your friend but am too ascared to ask. ... anyway. i'll quit wasting your time...

Scorpion tattoo on my arm, more coverage than in the viral video.

Completed in one sitting in around 1.5 - 2 hours.

Guy done the outline first, waited a while then filled it in.

I think anyone on the internets who is describing their tattoo should be forced to show a picture, because my brain is swelling from all the imaginationing, I usually have the tv, comp and DS on at the same time so I usually don't have to think (when I'm alone with my brain bad things happen). So, forks it over please and massive upboats shall be yours and junk.

Same here. I sat for 5 straight hours for the first half of my (quite large) back tattoo. But yeah the stuff with the hair that you mention is definitely fake. They never tattoo over hair. And it would be really red and swollen too.

Heavily tatted guy here (sleeve, and both my legs are covered). I've had an 8 hour session before, how much work you get depends on your tolerance and the artist. LLoyd Banks had a straight 15 hour session on Miami Ink.

The hair thing is correct.

The artist would have also finished the outline before coloring in the rest.

He would have used two different needles for the entire tattoo (he never changes needles). Smaller one for the outline, and larger one for the fill.

He would also have smeared black ink all over his face. Artist will wipe away access ink very often during a tattoo. This residual ink will stay for a day or two (you can't scrub the area to remove it).

Also no self respecting tattoo artist would use ghetto ass plastic tubing.

Good observation with the camera tricks. The thing that screams "fake!" to me is the fact that the production is somewhat professional but made to appear amateur. The sound quality and camera quality seem to be pretty decent, (although you can get that with a cheap DSLR anymore). This combined with the editing really make the "amateur" effects stand out, particularly with the horrific focusing skills and framing that seems to deliberately to hide things.

I find facial tats off-putting. It indicates to me that you do not want to be the person you are, and the issue is so strong that you go to tattoo places to hide, literally and figuratively.

I'm way outside the "norm" (I think) in a lot of ways, but no un- tattooed part of the face? Eeeuuww. Creepy.

There's a homeless man near the intersection of third avenue and 14th street that I have seen every day (more or less in the same place) for the last nine months.

He has a face tattoo and no matter how bad I feel for him, I can't help but think it's totally his own fault he can't get a job.

Awh, that's sad. My artist wont tattoo anyone on the face, neck or hands without a seriously good reason. Infact, I'm pretty sure he just right up wont tattoo people on the face, for this exact reason.

Some 18 year old kid came in asking for stars all up his neck, and when we refused he said "Nah, it's okay I've got a job, they don't care!" Ack, you're going to keep your first job forever are you? FFS.

Yeah, of all the homeless people I've seen - and NYC has a lot - he consistently looks the most hopeless. I've seen homeless veterans embraced by their brothers in arms, homeless old ladies helped to aid by younger kids, etc. but no one can take that guy seriously. It's really messed up, but I feel like he effectively marked himself off from society.
