Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

Good question! They tried first in her right arm, they collapsed that vein. Then they tried in her left arm, they collapsed that vein. They then tried in her right foot and collapsed that vein. By then I had flipped my shit on their dumbasses and demanded they get someone who knows how to do their job. So they brought down their best pediatric phlebotomist. I didnt know at the time they are only allowed to try once in each limb if they collapse a vein. Thankfully the last nurse did manage to get a vein and keep it, so they wrapped and tied my daughters arm to a wooden board to keep the iv in. She was diagnosed with hydronephrosis, swelling of her kidney from water.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this... Peds are such tough cases and they really do need people who specialize in treating them. Were the others that tried regular phlebs? I hope she gets better soon.

I was asking because I'm a pedi ER nurse. Getting an IV into an infant is tough as hell, even for the most experienced nurse. I'm pretty sure they're not dumbasses though.

Before I was born, my parents lived in South Africa. They went to the animal shelter and found a little kitty with a cast on his leg who had fallen off a balcony. They adopted the kitty, took it back to California, and he lived to a grand old age of 21 years. Best cat I ever had.
