I don't understand all the fucking outrage about this. None of this seems that harsh. It's not like the parents are selling all the kids possessions and making them sleep on a strip of cardboard in the back yard, they are taking the money the kids had and selling the toys the kids used to destroy the bath tub.

The outcry to this has been ridiculous and honestly about what I would expect if reddit found out the parents were just beating the ever living shit out of the kids. Settle down, the kids have other toys.

i don't think they were too harsh, honestly they are children and yes they need to learn responsibility, but as a child who has had a toy taken away from me i know from experience how devastating it can be, i am still struggling to find my footing in life due to this exact occurrence, lol

Seems like she was even making it worse by making the kids stand there, showing their toys so she can take a picture; then put the picture online to further ridicule them (by ridicule i mean putting a picture online of them crying).

that's really going above and beyond a bad parent

Yeah, I'm not sure this goes above and beyond bad parenting...Beating your children or neglecting your children or emotionally abusing your children does, but I think this is teaching these kids personal responsibility and that there are consequences for their actions. Maybe I'm reading too much into the situation though, we really don't know the circumstances surrounding this whole thing.

Totally agree. A lot of American kids these days are entitled little selfish shits. I am very progressive, but there is nothing wrong with teaching children to face consequences for their actions. The kid on the left in the picture is far too old to have not known he was fucking up the bathtub while he played.

she had it coming.

I mean, selling their toys AND taking all their saved pennies and nickles. that's a pretty harsh punishment for playing in the tub. especially when you're like 7 years old. kids make mistakes, don't have them if you can't deal with it

Seriously. I am not a parent, but that just seems harsh. I know it seems silly to say that something that ends up not mattering can be significant, but this kind of thing can wreck a kid. Taking away the little money they have gotten from allowance, selling their toys, and all the while, making them feel like asses for playing like all kids do? That shit will stay with them for a while. I am not saying it would be awesome to have to pay that off yourself, but man, I wouldn't "hold them responsible" quite like this until they are 16ish.

[–]NovaDeez 0 points1 point ago

Really? 16ish? Your kids are going to be spoiled fucking rotten.

Ah. I didn't word my post very well. My mistake. I didn't mean to say that any time my kids do anything wrong, I will just give them a hug and tell them it is okay. I just meant that holding someone who is not even 10 FINANCIALLY responsible for something like that, just seems like a poor thing to do. You can bet they would get some kind of punishment any time something like that happens. I just think that treating your 8 year olds like you are a landlord and they are your tenants and you withhold their security deposit, is kind of messed up.

[–]arestheblue 0 points1 point ago

I guarantee you that the parents told those kids not to do that at least 5x.

You are quite possibly correct! Thank you.

7 years old is more than old enough to learn there are consequences for mistakes. Looks to me like she IS dealing with it.

[–]tenhotuisku -1 points0 points ago

consequences like no ice cream

not consequenses like making them pay for a tub that's cost equals their income for the next 5 years

[–]ProximaC 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm pretty sure those kids don't have jobs, let alone incomes. I'm also willing to bet all their toys were bought by the parents in the first place so comparing this to indentured servitude for 5 years is hyperbolic at best.

[–]tenhotuisku 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yeah well I wasn't actually filing my taxes, thought you would understand what I meant by income.

all toys of all kids are bought by parents or with money given by parents.

it doesn't change the fact this is a ridiculously overshot punishment

[–]rabblerabble2000 0 points1 point ago

There's a lot of assumption there. Honestly, we don't know the whole circumstances surrounding this situation. These kids could have been told time and time again not to play with these particular toys in the tub, and never listened. At some point, you have to stop being the kids friend and start teaching them something they won't forget; there are consequences to our actions.

I knew of one dad who would tell his son to do something, and if his son refused or didn't listen, he'd take one of his toys and throw it away. The child quickly learned that misbehaving was not going to get him anywhere. Children are wily, and manipulative, and if you let them they will walk all over you. Those kids who never learn that there are boundaries and consequences end up being little shits and growing up to be big shits.

I laughed my ass off, in class because of this! EPIC-fucking-WIN!!!

Selling the toys? Reasonable Using all their savings? A little harsh, but arguable

But there's no need to take a picture of them crying and holding up the toys. Just mean-spirited. The kids are seven and they obviously didn't mean to mess up the bath tub.

The only reason she did that was to increase pageviews, get links, etc. Looks like she got what she deserved.

Ahhh the look of someone who just had their hopes and dreams shot stabbed anally raped and crushed simultaneously. Poor child, but you get upvoted because I laughed so hard I cried.

That's exactly what mine would have done too- if only ebay was around when I was that age!

Kind of global shame instead of march in front of neighbours and explain why you have to do something.

Is this the same person that sues their 12 yr old on peoples court to make a point? You can sell the toys and make a point without a line up of your crying kids for the internet to play with.
