When I'm in the shower, I'm afraid to wash my hair. 'Cause I might open my eyes and find someone standing there.

Yeah, like the top of some guy's head sticking out the top of the shower curtain... staring at you....

This actually happened to me at the gym except it was on the side of the curtain. I was showering and the curtain slowly opened as if it were by a draft of wind. But then it seemed too slow. I pulled it back quickly and there was a man crouched down masturbating.

It was quite disturbing to say the least because it was only me and him in the shower area.

People say I'm crazy, just a little touched, but maybe showers remind me of psycho too much...

I was washing my face in the shower and opened my eyes to see my wife's face peeking from a pulled-aside shower curtain.

Typically this might not frighten me, except this was a day I had off and she was at work, and I had forgotten that she sometimes gets half-day fridays. At first, it didn't register as her face and I just saw a person looking at me while I was defenseless. Of course, I grabbed a big shower brush and nearly hit her with it till, half a second later, I regained my senses.

I think my heart almost exploded.

Nah, get MJ on backup vocals , switch to a british accent halfway through for no reason. Get a Japanese newspaper, and you got a one hit wonder on your hands.

I used to go through this every night, but now I don't open my blinds anymore. ..which is not as depressing as that sounds, because I'm out of the apartment by daylight and home when it's dark, so there's no point letting light (or faces or aliens) in. Wait, is that more depressing?

[–]BobLoblaw588 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No joke, I was about 14, and looking at porn, I heard a noise (the window was to my immediate right.) I look out the blinds and see eyes looking back at me. My heart dropped, but I looked back out just to see (if it was my reflection or not) and I see a guy running back towards the street so I ran into my moms room, creepiest moment of my masturbation experience.

Horror comments on Reddit in recent years have relied solely on shock value, so it's refreshing to see a comment that creates an enormous amount of suspense and tension without the sight of any blood. "That Inner Struggle", starring blankexpression, is the best horror release in recent memory and should serve as an example to other commentors on how to create a quality horror comment.

"That Inner Struggle" receives 5 out of 5 stars.

Novelty accounts, while always popular on social bookmarking websites such as Reddit.com, always run the risk of self-parody. the_comment_critic skirts this line with a series of reviews of other users' comments, awarding stars and providing a tongue-in-cheek précis of each in the tone of a film critic. With the account now six hours old, has the novelty worn off?

[–]zackks 4 points5 points ago

I have had a recurring nightmare throughout my life of an evil kazoo that hides in my bathroom and decapitated the family one by one as they go in there. I inevitably go in out of curiosity and get my head cut off, waking to actual neck pain about the cross section that kazoo slices through.

Totally random, but the alien thing brought it back to the surface. This kazoo had red eyes.

It's gotten to the point where I have my blinds tilted up (if that makes sense). If I'm on the floor and look up at down-tilted blinds, I see the window and worry about freaky-face-person popping up. Those blinds have been up tilted for years.

I used to look out the window at night, then I read this story last week on Reddit:

"There was a hunter in the woods, who, after a long day hunting, was in the middle of an immense forest. It was getting dark, and having lost his bearings, he decided to head in one direction until he was clear of the increasingly oppressive foliage. After a what seemed like hours, he came across a cabin in a small clearing. Realizing how dark it had grown, he decided to see if he could stay there for the night. He approached, and found the door ajar. Nobody was inside. The hunter flopped down on the single bed, deciding to explain himself to the owner in the morning. As he looked around, he was surprised to see the walls adorned by many portraits, all painted in incredible detail. Without exception, they appeared to be staring down at him, their features twisted into looks of hatred. Staring back, he grew increasingly uncomfortable. Making a concerted effort to ignore the many hateful faces, he turned to face the wall, and exhausted, he fell into a restless sleep.

Face down in an unfamiliar bed, he turned blinking in unexpected sunlight. Looking up, he discovered that the cabin had no portraits, only windows."

Our entrance room has a ton of windows, and since we live in a small rural town there's absolutely no light outside unless there's a bright moon. This makes any shadow really creepy, and once when I was letting my dog in I turned around and looked out a window and was convinced I saw a face.

I looked closer afterwards and realized it was just a smudge from my own face pressing against the window earlier that day. =/

[–]LegoLegume 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is one of my favorite creepy concepts. I love how it hints at a violation of personal space, the implication that a barrier is about to be shattered and the awareness of how weak that barrier really is. I love how possible it is and how it inherently provides for a moment of realization before any physical harm actually manifests itself. I really don't know why I don't see it more in movies and games. To me it just seems perfect.

[–]Radicou 9 points10 points ago

I don't see why you need to talk about impending physical harm. I know I'd be creeped out by even a curious person just looking in. I would never fear that physical violence would even occur.

Also, it was in at least one movie, where the startling scene was where the camera suddenly panned to the bad guy looking at you from a distance.

[–]InvalidConfirmation 1 point2 points ago

Let me put it this way.

The galaxy is so large there has to be alien life out there somewhere. If alien life exists and it finds our planet and if the aliens are nice then they would be like "Hey guys, we brought some space weed."

If the aliens are up to sinister things then they would not make their presence known to the world.

So if there are any sort of aliens making contact with Earth, which type do you think they would be?

This happened to me when I was a kid. My friend was sleeping over, he saw it too. I thought I could see something behind the curtain, we were in bed together, and I pulled them back, and there was the face. I instinctively punched the face and the thing ran. It was crazy fast. When I was young I would have terrible repeated nightmares that started differently but ended with the same thing. I'd come across a dark window, usually in some dreamscape version of my house or my grandmother's house, and be inexorably drawn towards it no matter how much I didn't want to go. It was like some invisible force was just pulling me towards the glass, until my face was pressed right up against it. I'd spend a few seconds of utter terror staring out into the black, until faces would appear in the distance, slowing coming closer towards the window. The faces would shift and spiral constantly, morphing from some burnt demonic visage into a rotting maggot filled skull to a corpse-like vampire leering at me. These faces would eventually be inches away from me on the other side of the glass, and would seem to be reveling in my fear before they snatched me out into the night.

Fuck dark windows.

[–]TheDoctorsCompanion 7 points8 points ago

That is one of my biggest fears! When I was little my older brothers would put their Halloween masks outside my bedroom window to scare me which basically scarred me for life.

[–]Rubdix 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

When I was 10 or 11, I was at home on Halloween night with a babysitter and my friend. I heard something outside and went to the window, peeked through the blinds and found a bloody face staring back at me. I have never screamed so loud in my life/been more terrified, ever.

The funny thing is, the babysitter was in the same room and realized I saw something, opened the door probably 3 seconds after I freaked out, and couldn't find anyone there. Still don't know if I was hallucinating or if someone out there was just really, really fast. Either way, that shit sucked.

Other weird things happened in that house though, lots of times I could have sworn I saw someone behind me in mirrors, etc.

But yeah, to this day looking through windows at night freaks me out a little bit.

My apartment is on the "garden level" which is a BS way of saying it is partially underground, get used to horrifying bugs. Anyway, the windows are an inch off the ground so I get animals looking in at me. It never stops being creepy. Little animal faces peering out of the darkness. Only partially illuminated by my lights. I can never see their bodies.

A friend of mine once decided it would be hilarious to break into my room and put water balloons all around my sleeping body. My bed is right next to the window to my room and about half way through him breaking in I woke up, looked out the window and DID see a face. I freaked the fuck out and almost shat my pants, until he started dying of laughter and I recognized him.

TL;DR I looked out my window at night and there was someone there.

[–]Neverborn 1 point2 points ago

When I was a young lad I had a recurring nightmare that etched a fear of windows in me that took years to overcome.

I lived in a two bedroom, single floor manufactured home up on a mountain a good 15 miles from the closest proper town. The region was heavily wooded, and our yard extended out about maybe twenty feet from the edge of our house before it turned to tree line. The forest was predominately spruce, a few pine, and the occasional birch. I shared my bedroom with my younger brother, eventually brothers. We had twin sized beds, and mine rolled out from under his, and could be extended to the same height, but almost never was. The wall that our beds rested lengthwise against had a window that was close to two feet tall and three feet wide. On most nights the moon light would stream through the window and illuminate our room. When my second brother was born his crib was situated along the opposite wall.

My dream would start the same every time. I'd wake up in my bed, and my brother James would either be missing or sleeping in his bed. Either way I'd see something that would draw my attention to the window. Sometimes a flash of light, other times a bit of movement, a sound in the woods, or even just the full moon. I'd crawl up from my bed onto my brothers, and while being on my knees I could fully look out the window. After a moment of looking I'd see a dark shape, or sometimes just the flash of eyes, moving in the trees contrasted by just how brightly the full moon illuminated my yard. I would watch it for what sometimes felt like hours as it slinked in the dark of the woods. Never able to fully discern its shape. Eventually I would hear something in the house behind me. Sometimes I heard one of my parents speak, sometimes a foot step would creak in the living room, and sometimes I'd hear a door open, but the end result was always the same. I'd look away from the window and towards the sound. The sound of breaking branches would turn my attention back to the window just in time for me to see a hulking form with yellow eyes shattering the window as at flew towards me.

I would almost always wake up screaming. I had this dream almost every night, and sometimes I'd have it more than once a night. After a while I started sleeping under my brothers bed instead of inside mine which seemed to help. Windows made me feel uncomfortable at night for many many years. Now days I almost never have nightmares, but when I do and I can't just will the situation to be different they tend to be good ones.

I used to sleep with the window blinds closed, and as much noise in the room as possible.

My logic was if I couldn't hear it coming in, I wouldn't know it was coming, and wouldn't be awake when it killed me.

I think this fear was instilled in me thanks to an episode of Star Trek, the original series. I don't remember the name of it... all I do remember was a scene where they open up this window on the ship to look out into space and on the other side of the window, right up against the glass, were like... 30 ghostly people looking right back in. Freaked me out.

Goes the other way too: I used to work as a security guard, patrolling empty businesses late at night and early in the morning. It was always pretty quiet and not much happened.

One night I wander around a corner and shine my torch in the front window of a business. Inside, light up by my torch, is a man just standing still and staring back at me. It took me a few seconds to work out it was a cardboard cut-out advertising a cleaning product or something.

I didn't need any extra coffee that night!

This is 100% me. I'm terrified of windows and mirrors. Not for any kind of rational reason, but out of fear that I might see something.

It's bad enough that at night, if there are windows or mirrors around I'll usually make a point of averting my eyes, and using my peripheral vision to navigate through the house. I always figured it was because of a scene in one of the Poltergeist movies where a little girl in red pajamas looked in the mirror and an "evil" version of her jumped out or some shit.

Ah, I remember that night when I decided to prepare for my finals in my Dad's office, away from the disturbances back home. Late at night, I was studying in there alone and suddenly I started hearing some noise coming from the window behind me, and as I started peeking through the curtain, I jumped back horrified at the face that was staring back at me... Only to realize minutes later that that was the reflection of my face! Thankfully, only my Dad's mug was broken that night, caused by the jump of horror backwards!

wow. This is actually weird for me, almost to the point of being alarming, because I've specifically been getting the feeling described in the OP, very strongly and uncharacteristically, tonight, despite never getting it before.

in other news, I have a window directly behind the monitor I'm facing. I keep seeing my own reflection in it while I'm sitting here trying to mind my own business, and have been listening to an unusual amount of sinister ass dubstep this evening, which I'm pretty sure somehow directly causes evil things to happen. What's worse is that I'm wearing monstrous circumaural headphones, which means that, not only can't I hear anything from the outside world, but on top of that, every time I see my reflection, it's a fucking robot alien. And I can hear him talking in the headphones.

I'm sober.

kind of one in the same, you are not afraid to look out of the window during the day because you would see if somebody was approaching the window. where as during the night you cannot see anything. you are afraid of the scenarios that darkness can create. little kids arent afraid of the actual lack of light, they are frightened by the potential ghouls that could be lurking there

One time when I was living in a basement apartment I glanced upward toward the window because I felt someone watching me. Turned out I was right. I calmly grabbed my cell phone and went to the bathroom. I locked the door and didn't come out for 20 minutes. The scariest part was knowing I'd eventually have to come out of the bathroom and check to see if they were still looking. Fortunately they were gone and my roommate came home. Pretty sure it was just a drunk guy walking by and looking in, but still scared me shitless for a good month.
