Actually, Bender and Homer have already had a run in on the Simpsons series in the Season 15 episode "Future Drama." Behold!

Great retort my good sir. However this episode is clearly errorous since Bender does not have wiring connceting his head to torso. Matt Groening fucked up.

Bart: Uh-oh, I smell another crummy cartoon cross-over.

[–]jacobtaylor1987 11 points12 points ago

I thought the premise of that crossover was that The Jetsons went back in time.

[–]greenroom628 20 points21 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

kibblesnbitts is right. the jetsons represented the ultra-rich -- living in stilted structures in the sky, flying around in hover crafts. while the flintstones were the ultra-poor -- lived on the ground, powering their vehicles with their feet and relying on the genetically engineered animals provided by the jetson's people to survive.

[–]manlycaveman 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

All of The Flintstones is actually an epilogue for the Jurassic Park series. The people who could afford to, lived in the sky away from the dinosaurs, while the rest of the population was forced to find some way to coexist with the dinosaurs on the ground. The cloud layers help hide the massive bird cage keeping out the various flying dinos. :)

As long as you don't mind the cynical exploitation of the characters' suffering for mindless schadenfreude you'll be fine - they're just cartoons, right?

If you've ever imagined you might see their sex lives mined dry for every potential gross out, I have great news for you, you lucky dog, you.

Think of it as Futurama: Internet message board edition. Besides, the best of them contain just enough good that you'll overlook the sound of bizarre jokes misfiring long enough to make it to the end - kinda like X-Men 3.

If the people behind Futurama were given sole control and the people currently behind The Simpsons were locked in a bunker until the episode was completed, then it might have a slim chance of being good.

I feel like the creators have probably contemplated this and it turns out to be a bad idea.

[–]mywowtoonnname 6 points7 points ago

[–]Joon01 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thank you.

If people have actual complaints about The Simpsons, that's fine. But this reductionist stuff is bullshit. You can do it to anything.

As you said, Bender is cruel and/or steals

Fry gets hit/falls down/is stupid and says stupid things

Leela pines for something/beats something up

Amy acts slutty/stupid

The Professor is senile/has crazy device

Zapp is horny/a douche

There, that's the whole show. By "lol simpsons sucks" logic, Futurama is also terrible.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think you can make fun of anything using a simplistic summary, but the thing is, it's just not possible to say how a piece of art manages to be good (in spite of, or aided by the describable bits) because we only know if it is good or not by experiencing that piece of art, and that is a full sensory experience that words cannot replicate (like the difference between reading "you get punched", and actually being punched).

[–]mkicon -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes, but bender isn't the basis for the entire show.

Homer, however, is pretty much the entire simpsons show these days.

[–]realmayo -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Idk. Probably about 8 years ago I would have liked to seen it. now, Futurama has far exceeded the Simpsons. The stench of beaten dead horse that is now hovering over the Simpsons hasnt yet made it to Futurama. I was the biggest Simpsons fan back in the day, but not now. MG ruined them for me. But at least futurama still has some excellence.

Matt Groening hates crossovers. The Simpsons did it once with James L. Brooks's other show, The Critic and Matt got so mad that he left his name out of the credits. So them having an entire episode crossover (more than the small references they've already made) is highly unlikely.

[–]bigo-tree 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

if you listen to the futurama commentary, they even mention they hate it when the simpsons show uses futurama characters and such, the actual explanation that they give is because the simpsons is a fictional story, with fictional characters, but Futurama is set in our world, just in the year 3000.

I'm one of the many Simpsons nerds who thinks that it's bad now. ("This is for your show's slight decline in quality over the years!") However, I still enjoy Futurama. One cool and somewhat "classy" crossover I'd like to see would be a bit of a Futurama episode that consist of part of a Simpsons show set in the year 3011. The canon is that the Simpsons are still on then, so it'd be interesting to see what the Simpsonian take on life in the future is.

When I imagined it, of course, I was thinking "yeah, and get Conan O'Brien to write it, and..." but alas, I think some things are too good to ever happen, especially since the next request would be for Phil Hartman to voice someone in it. :(

The current show that calls itself The Simpsons has already done a crossover with American Idol. They have nothing left to lose in terms of credibility so I'd be fine settling for some fan service if they're going to insist on staying on the air.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

[–]FartingBlood -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I do not want this to happen.

While The Simpsons has gotten crazily outlandish at times, those are the worst episodes (barring early Treehouses of Horror of course). It's not possible to explain Bender and Homer in the same time without bringing time travel into the show. The Simpsons may have sucked for the most part since season 9 started, but I certainly don't think adding time travel into a modern episode is going to solve anything.

It could happen in Futurama. Homer's head still being alive for some reason, but what's the point?

Let's also note: Matt Groening has not had much success with cartoon crossovers (that horrid Jay Sherman visits The Simpsons episode).

[–]jamesneysmith 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Bender could travel back in time to the simpsons era. Not saying it would make a good episode.

[–]FartingBlood 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's still time travel which I was said probably wouldn't help The Simpsons.

Why wouldn't it help The Simpsons? You're focus is still on the family just all of a sudden a robot travels back in time.

I prefer The Simpsons to be grounded in some level of reality.

Bender HAS traveled through the time period of The Simpsons. In *Bender's Big Score", he/his time-clones were hanging out underground with loot pilfered from long before 1989-Present.

If it's Simpsons and made after season 13 you know it's going to be utter garbage.

Ever seen The Flintstones meets The Jetsons? It was The O.G. crossover, and it sucked,

It was 'Jetsons Meet the Flinstones' and I liked it when I was a kid.
