Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

You are definitely more optimistic about the world than I am, the minute I saw this I knew they had been dressed by a clan member. Children are still subject to this kind of thing today (ex. Westboro Baptist Church).

They are actors in a manufactured scene for this photograph. This is a repost of a repost, and it is confirmed not to be a "real" photo.

I think it is. The look on the troopers faces is what does it for me. It's almost like you can feel the pity for that kid about to grow up in that environment.

She must be like 3. This is one of the things in the world that bothers me most. The robbing of the innocence of small children. They have no say in what they turn out to be, and are unlikely to ever change it.

probably not right when they leave the womb, but supposedly some babies are racist. maybe someone has more info on this.

[–]wheatdextrose 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Babies react to their parents' reactions and mimic them. They are very sensitive to things such as tone of voice, facial expression, and other behaviours. For instance, many fears are manifested from a baby seeing their parent freak out at something, like a rat. So in some cases, racism can develop from a mimicked aversion of a certain group of people. It can also be argued that we have a biological predisposition to dislike those we see as different than ourselves/ingroups

How do you know "no one is born racist". I mean, in nature it is survival to fear that which is different. It could be out intellect and upbringing that overcomes this. Just a thought, you're most likely right, just trying to make you question you argument. :) I'd be interested to know if anybody actually tested this.

Wow the K.K.K is more like relegion than I thought.

(generally speaking) If this childs parents are hardcore christian , the child will be. If this childs parents are hardcore muslim, the child will be. If this childs parents are hardcore white supremacist, the child will be.

If you are worried that your children may adopt different views and beleifs in life to your own , then maybe your own views are wrong or just not suited to your children .

This kid may grow up to hate his parents beleifs , but children emulate authority figures (especially parents) this is blatent brain washing. It should be illegal to take any child into a beleif system until they are a adult capable of forming there own opinions and yes I mean churches aswell as cross burnings.

[–]mrection 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

How do you raise a child without imparting your belief system? I'm not trolling, this is something I think about quite a bit. I keep trying to give my kids the facts, but my opinions keep sneaking in, even if it's just in small ways.

[–]matusmatus 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is how my mom did it, unintentionally, from as far back as I can remember: 1. Encourage critical thinking. 2. Try to impart your belief system.

[–]mrection 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Seems good to me... teach them to think for themselves, and then follow up with "this is what works for me" :)

[–]dstz 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is also the basis of all human culture, if that has any importance (especially to the anti-theist crowd.)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

everyone has values, why do you doubt your own? reach out to your kids before some asshole does it for you.

[–]mrection 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I agree entirely... Hindsight_Is_Great is saying "It should be illegal to take any child into a beleif system until they are a adult" ... I'm not sure how, as a parent, you can avoid it :)

[–]saved_by_the_keeper 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My parents raised me and my sisters to think for ourselves and rarely imparted their beliefs other than the standard: Treat others how you want to be treated, respect people until they give you a reason not to, recognize that there is a time to work and a time to play, always be truthful, etc.....

Politics never entered into the discussion...ever. This was intentional. My parents would not even tell us who they voted for. I did not find out that my father was a liberal until he was bitching about Bush and his second term and how he could not stand him. By that time I was in my early twenties.

What I do with my young child when he asks a question that may delve into beliefs is give him the multiple viewpoints in the simplest terms and let him drive the conversation. As I be careful to stay objective. I think it is a little egotistical to try to fashion your kids into copies of yourself. I would rather they find out who they are and not what I want them to be. As long as they have the basics I am happy.

[–]mrection 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is very close to how I'm trying to do this as well :) My 5yo son is VERY inquisitive right now, and some how while chatting in the hot tub the other night we got on to the topic of war and my grandfather in WWII ... trying to explain that objectively from all sites was a challenge but I think I did ok! haha

On a personal note, I think my wife would agree that the last thing this world needs is little copies of ME running around :P

On a personal note, I think my wife would agree that the last thing this world needs is little copies of ME running around :P

Nice.

I grew up in a midwestern family while being raised in the south. I knew few liberals and some of my friends that came from conservative households received propaganda from family members pretty often. Since I was only raised in one family and was not aware of any liberal househoulds among friends, though there were undoubtetly some, I have this bias, if you will, that conservatives really try to instill political beliefs in their children.

[–]mrection 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've seen the same. I grew up in southern Ontario in Canada. When I was a young teenager U2 opened my eyes to MLK and the human right movement, I recall having a huge poster of Martin Luther King Jr. on my wall. One day my sister and her boyfriend were in my room and this jackass asks why there's a picture of a ni**er on my wall... I was kinda floored - that I knew of this was the first openly racist person my age that I had ever met! haha Turns out, as a young kid his uncle and father would give him $5 for spouting hate slogans around the house... talk about indoctrination! To my knowledge, that guy is still in prison for armed robbery.

My dad was raised Catholic (hated it), then became a Jehovah's Witness later on in life. Judging from my dad, it seems that the whole point of being a Jay-Dub is rejecting everything specifically Catholic (Christmas, saints, etc...), while following the bible.

It's like he blasted off from planet Jesus, but never made it out of orbit.

(I have never been a JW, in case you think that.)
