Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

XKCD did a color survey, more or less shattered the "men only know 7 colors" myth.

Flora and moss. WTF is the difference there?

[–]skookin 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Flora would be a brighter, springy green, and moss has a less saturated, dark tone.

Yeah, it showed that we men know all sorts of additional colors, like "penis", "gay", "WTF", "dunno", and "baige" [sic].

Seam Foam?

[–]observing 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Are you male? Does sea foam look green to you? Cause it's under green but I think most people would see that as blue.

I know very few people will read this let alone care but....

As I understand it there is an anthropological reason for the ladies enhanced perception of color depth that dates back to humanities early hunter-gather stages. The often presence of young venerable offspring often prevented females from engaging in the most dangerous aspects nomadic life. Death could have been a bad mosquito bite or infected cut away anyway. So it was generally the males who went out to gather raw materials (food, wood, animal hide) while the females generally processed/distributed those raw materials for the benefit of the family unit (animal hide = blanket for the baby = the next generation lives). Please note that both of these rolls were vital to the success of our ancestors.

Where am I going with this...

If you were (most likely) a male stalking a deer in the woods, weather that dear is tan or almond is irrelevant to your objective. Your only real concern is can you flush it out and kill it to take back to the family. But if you were (most likely) a female gathering berries with a child the difference between burgundy and maroon could me the difference between proper nourishment and death.

Modern society has rendered many of these traits in men and women obsolete, but with no real force driving us to evolve away from them...here we are.

It’s 3 am here so apologies if I was not as concise as I could have been (upboat for groggy science?).

While I wouldn't run into quite as many colors as it lists for a girl, I definitely would split up the colors much more than the guy does in this. I've even found that I'm generally much more specific about color than most of the girls I know. I'll say something is a mauve, when the girl thinks it's just purple. And salmon is definitely a color.

As a man who has to match Pantone colors daily, I find this highly inaccurate. If anybody is interested, they can tell how each of those colors relate and describe it. Unfortunately, most of the color deviations in the above image (in the red spectrum) are a result of adding black or strength.
