Anyone else ever notice that all the weirdest news stories come from Florida? Maybe it's just cause I live here, so I hear all of them, but it seems like a disproportionate amount.

Welcome to the community! I'm pretty new (<1 year) and have found Reddit to be very addictive. Seek out subreddits you like and consider participating in the gift exchanges! People bitch alot about the state of Reddit, but I've found it to be a well-rounded, tolerant community with good mods and spam policing.

Here's a Google docs list of popular subreddits.

Also a subreddit map with hotlinks for the visually inclined. Pretty much any topic has a home here.

I almost forgot... I HIGHLY recommend Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES). It is a custom script made by the community that smooths out the graphics/threads and adds buttons that make posting and commenting a breeze. I know zero HTML, but can post links and modified text with the best of em. You just need to install GreaseMonkey (an addon that manages browser scripts), download RES, and you're off!

Yep, I have been in Florida my entire life and the amount of crazy we have packed into it is hard to fathom. The northern parts are basically extensions of Alabama and Georgia, our Capitol is one of the shittiest towns in the state (I'm there right now). Jacksonville might as well be a meth den run out of the back of a gun show. The central area is filled with Scientologists and Disney, and Miami was built on the cocaine trade. My favorite though is my hometown of Pensacola. Home of the "Third Great Awakening", Brownsville Assembly of God, and at the apex of where the Bible Belt meets the Gay Riviera. It was only proper that the asshole of the south get lubed up by BP oil so we could continue to watch that area fuck itself.

Did anyone else listen to Loveline back in the day when it was Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew? They had a segment called "Germany or Florida" where a caller would read them a crazy ass story and they'd have to guess whether it came from Germany or Florida. Because that's apparently where all crazy stories come from.

Lived in Florida for 7 years or so. That state is FUCKED. Tampa, most specifically. Everyone I knew from there was nuts, everyone who lives there is nuts. I'd say a solid 80% of the nutty stories out of FL come from Hillsborough county.

It's pretty reliable that if you hear of someone carrying around a 40 lb. tumor, or an old woman being set on fire because townspeople thought she was conjuring the Devil, it's either going to be in Florida or India.

As a person from (and in) Florida, I remember watching this as a kid and still think of it whenever someone says we're gonna sink. Awesome.
