Imagine if he was like 50 years old now. He'd be that guy that depresses everyone at the party just by being there.

Peanuts is full of introspection and despair. Just check out how sad things are with 3eanuts.

One year when I was a kid, I made the mistake of watching the Peanuts Christmas Special. One of Charlie's new best friends gets cancer, and she's really sick, and then finally on Christmas.... she fucking dies! On Christmas. I think they misunderstood the meaning of the word "special".

Every character is a mental case. I did not let my kid watch any of it when she was little, then explained the psycho aspects of it , and why I didn't let her watch it , later on.
Keep your kids away from TV and win.

34 upvotes and no reply. I think this comment really hit home with a few redditors. I know it did for me.

I read the peanuts, and always feel little better that I am at least as not as depressed as these children.

[–]slhayden73 11 points12 points ago

Schroeder wasn't depressed. That dude handled Lucy like she deserved.

[–]swaggasaurus 11 points12 points ago

That's because the only kids who weren't depressed were the kids who had found their purpose in life.

Respectfully it should be ''kid''. There are no other sane and intelligent characters besides Schroeder.

Reddit, it's time for another mature discussion about the state of this site.

Downvote me to oblivion Reddit, but this exact same picture just hit the front page no more than two weeks ago, titled "This is the darkest Charlie Brown comic I've ever read" or something.

Reddit is now ultimately Digg.

I realize that karma is worthless and that Reddit loves it's reposts, but every time the same image hits the front page within just a few short weeks, this website goes one step further from "news before it happens" and "the voice of the Internet", and into a circle jerking, worthless-celebrity loving website.

"Why don't you just leave then?" you say. Because there are still some mature Redditors who enjoy talking about fresh subjects, who ask about real world problems, who need Reddit to see their achievements because they have no one else.

This is why I stay. Every time I see IRC, Doug, PHOY, or some other "big name" reposter, it just makes me sick that I seem to be the only one who cares about the state of Reddit.

So upvote the reposts, bury those who call you out on it, make Reddit one step closer to Digg, Fark, hell, even FunnyJunk or ICHaz, and watch as this once great nation of a website burns to the ground, fueled by it's own denial.

The problem for the 'reposter' is that you can't possibly follow every subreddit every day of the week. And since the search is very limited and pictures are not tagged or otherwise categorised it is really hard to find out if an image has been posted before or not.

The fact that you couldn't find the original post straight away speaks for itself.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

I was on my phone. Here's the original post I was referring to.

Most of these reposts occur in the same subreddit (mainly r/funny and r/pics)

[–]realzondarg[S] 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I haven't seen it before (being no regular at r/comics), but I guess that wasn't your point anyhow. Sadly, I have contributed to the ever growing problem of reposts.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You know what would make it more bearable? I've seen people do this too, the add a [Repost] tag to their title, just to be honest.

[–]realzondarg[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Hang on, you've seen people edit the title of their post? Or is this your way of saying that I am not an honest user?

[–]pedleyr 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

FWIW I didn't read his comment that way - I think he was saying that people should tag reposts at the time of submission and then a lot of his gripe would disappear. Not a bad idea, provided of course that the submitter knows it is a repost, which you apparently did not.

Reposts are a tough one, because as you rightly point out, nobody can possibly be across every single submission (both posters and viewers alike). I'd personally not seen this before, but it is evidently a repost.

Personally I don't have as much of a problem with "inadvertent" reposts such as this as much as the blatant karma whoring ones. I suspect it's something that will be bitched about for a while to come.

[–]realzondarg[S] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thanks for clarifying this. What bugs me most is that I myself sometimes point out when something is a blatant repost, and I search Reddit at least briefly before submitting anything. Dang.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They are aware of the reposts and are honest about it beforehand.

I thank you for uploading this realzondarg! I hadn't seen it in my life and had it not been for this submission probably would have missed it for years if not life, and I really loved it enough to skim through all the comments and find this.

Ohh come on Peanuts and Charles Schulz is a complex issue that can never get old. It's truly a fascinating subject.

Repost is the least of the problems plaguing post-Digg-v4 reddit.

Charles Schultz was a master at using simple drawings to perfectly capture despair. There are several strips where Charlie Brown looks physically ill thinking about his own life.

It's well known that Charles Schulz was chronically depressed. Alot of these feelings leaked out into Peanuts and specifically Charlie Brown's character. If you take a deeper look into Peanuts its truly fascinating to see how downright nihilistic the ideas and concepts could be. It's alot of the reasons Peanuts was so successful and long running because Schulz really poured alot of himself into the comic.

Ironically, its one of the most beloved comics of all times and brings joy to millions of children all around the world, all because Schulz let his negativity and sense of futility flow freely through the characters.
