Definitely Crater Lake. The island is called Wizard Island, which is a volcanic cinder cone.

Edit: Why the down-votes? It was meant a s a joke because Crater Lake is not in fact a crater, is was formed by a volcano emptying its magma chamber and collapsing, thus a caldera.

He is neither technically correct nor correct in any general way. The lake is named Crater Lake. It is a caldera lake, but he capitalized "Lake" to indicate a proper noun, i.e., the name of the lake. This is technically and more broadly incorrect. However, this in no way detracts from the hilarity that is his intended "joke."

I still can't believe we named it 'Crater Lake' is all.

Speaking of obviously named landmarks: I remember as a kid going to see my cousin in Nevada. He was excited all week about going to some place called "Sand Mountain". I had visions in my head of Splash Mountain, but with a unique desert theme. I got a fucking mountain made of sand, and we didn't even have quads. Lamest. Day. Ever.

TL;DR: By the time settlers came out west, they had ran out of interesting names for landmarks, so they just called them what they were.

I can't believe you're still reading bonus fact: Oregon is so bad at naming towns in fact, that there is a town named for a guy but nobody knows why as well as a town whose name has been misspelled for 99 years.

Well, for one, it houses an enormous lake - third deepest in the world. On top of which, the water is fantastically clear. It's just gorgeous. Unique and unlike any other caldera in the world. The only other caldera that I would favor over Crater Lake National Park is Yellowstone National Park.

I live in Portland and have never been down there to see it. I really should make a trip down there someday. I have done a lot of hiking around Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens though.

Go see it! I took a road trip from Edmonton, Canada down through Oregon, and Crater Lake was one of the highlights of the trip. You guys have an amazing state, you should go and enjoy it!

I will probably drive down there this summer and see it. I have been to several places in Oregon, but never there. There are a lot of cool places to see in Oregon! And lots of breweries. :)

The volcano when off a long time ago. This is crater lake, the lake formed in the caldera after mount Mazama erupted. It's the deepest lake in the US at over 1900 feet deep.
