Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I just needed to vent, and I wanted to make a point. I usually stick to the smaller subreddits where it doesn't matter if it's a repost, as long as it's relevant. In fact, I regularly message users and ask them to repost/crosspost interesting pictures to the subreddits I'm involved with. Not only is it a polite way to get more content to the subreddit, usually they will come back later and post things that aren't reposts.

I have never downvoted anything for being a repost unless they're obviously trolling.

I do more or less hate most everything on that list, everything but grapes really. I'm not saying I'm a better person for it, like for real I ought to exercise a bit more, and by the same token I know it's unreasonable to assume that anything you find on the internet isn't already a repost of a repost, but that doesn't mean I can't still feel acrimonious about the situation when I click a link hoping for the new and instead end up reliving the old.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've seen many, many interesting things on reddit only to start reading the comments and see multiple users bashing the OP for making a repost. First of all, who cares if it's a repost? If it's on the front page, then obviously many, many people enjoyed it, and likely have never seen it before.

If you like it, upvote it. If you don't, downvote it. Simple ;)

That's not quite how up/downvoting works. Reposts are obnoxious because people expect some modicum of original or new content. Even investing a small amount of time is a minor offense when the outcome is crap. Eating grapes? I do it on purpose, expecting a grape. If someone told me they were going to give me, say, a solid gold baby, and then I got a grape? I might be unhappy.

No, clicking doesn't take much time, but it's still a bother. Also the reddit system of 'monetizing' and quantifying the popularity of posts in a fashion which sticks with someone leads to people taking "credit" for "someone else's" work. This strikes a lot of people as being disingenuous or greedy, though it's largely just a mixture of human nature and reddit's inbuilt concept of self-aggrandizement.

Anyway, basically there's a distinction between choosing something (exercise, grapes) and having something impose, however slightly, upon you.

They're hard to distinguish in ASCII, so my apologies if I misread you. The stance I've usually seen against repost-haters is that they're all a bunch of elitist you-had-to-have-been-there douches who don't want others to join their meme club. While there's probably something to this notion, I was just pointing out that for me a lot of the time it really is just an issue of, "Oh hey what's this? Oh. Oh, this again." and it gets sort of more annoying than just bland after a few years.

Anyway, live and let live I guess.

Have you tried Reddit Enhancement Suite? One of the features I love is that you can view images directly on the main page without clicking the link. There's a lot of other features I love, but that's one of them :)
