At a small zoo in Kuala Lumpur near KL Tower you can pay about $6 to feed a live chicken to a snake. Takes a LOT longer for that to go down. Though this was a bit more action packed.

This is just unnecessarily cruel. Watching the impact of the goat when it hit the ground made me cringe, not to mention what happened to it after the fact. I know animals are killed and eaten in the wild, but at least in the wild the animals are given a fighting chance. Here, it's just senseless "entertainment" and it makes me sick.

i can totally see your point, but after seeing how long it takes for some animals to die while being eaten in the wild i would rather go the route of this goat. with that many lions, i'm sure its death was relatively quick. i imagine some of the "luckier" goats are knocked out upon landing on the ground making the inevitable less painful. those lions have to eat so i don't consider this senseless. would it make it any better if they slit the goat's throat behind closed doors and let it drown in its own blood before being fed to the lions?

Well the whole point of this is to entertain people and make money rather than feed the lions. I'm sure the lions get fed anyway; this is much more akin to petting zoos having food pellet dispensers so patrons can feel like they're giving the animal a treat.

My point is that they probably wouldn't throw a dead goat to the lions as it wouldn't be as "entertaining" for the patrons. If, however, they did throw a dead goat in, I'd rather it be killed as humanely as possible. However, if this is China we're talking about, they couldn't give less of a fuck about animal and environmental rights/issues. I assume the (dead) meat they feed the lions anyway has met a similar end.

I disagree. Apparently there is a defense mechanism that kicks in when you are being attacked which completely removes your consciousness from the situation. I would much rather have a fighting chance being in a heard in the wild, rather than being tossed to my death with no hope of survival.

The thing that bother's me is not the lions eating it, but the fairness. There is no way in hell that goat could have gotten away.

I'm not saying it's very likely that it would have gotten away in the wild, but there is definitely a better chance when it is in a heard and can run away than when it is tossed onto it's back from about 20 feet into a den of lions.

Predators in captivity that are just given food have more health issues than predators in captivity that are required to hunt or complete tasks for their food.

I can gauranfuckingtee you that the goat has no idea what's happening, but OH NO THEY MAY BE SCARED

Why don't we just kill all the predators in the world and play around in rainbows and waterfalls.

EDIT: And, I get your point, but I think watching predators hunt and kill is fucking badass, so I disagree with you. Or maybe it's that I agree with you?

SWUBA, soft white underbelly of America. These are the people that go "camping" in an RV and "backpacking" in the Yosemite Valley. They "hunt" in parks stocked with game so wherever you shoot you hit something. I would also say they watch captive animals thinking it's beautiful to observe nature and pit them against each other to simulate "predation". I am not saying that people shouldn't do that, but don't call it camping, hunting or natural. The feeding of this goat to these lions is PURELY for the enjoyment/shock of those watching not for the health of the lions.

It normalizes the idea of an animal like a goat, which I have no large amount of experience near, being tossed to certain death. The only large animal I know very well is a dog and to think of anyone chucking it over a wall to be eaten by several dozen large cats is enough to make me feel sorry for the goat or anything that might be treated the same way.

Eh... they could take the goat back, kill it behind closed curtains, and serve the meat on a tray. The other aspect is they make people pay thereby bringing in probably much needed $$$ and in the process people might actually learn from and appreciate these animals. Yeah it sucks, but either way a goat is going to die and a lion will be fed.

I also think this would be a great way to get rid of certain criminals.

Not sure if I'm entirely correct, but I remember there being an article on reddit about a Chinese zoo having to put shows like this to attract tourist dollars in order to actually feed the lions.

I don't imagine feeding that many lions is cheap.

It means the prey gets hunted by the predator in their natural habitat. The predator dies whenever. The predator decomposes into... grass, or something... Prey eats the grass. Circle of life.

The cycle of life does not really have morals attached to it, basically it means "animal eats plant, carnivore eats animal, animal dies, animal's remains decompose, microbial organisms flourish" and so on(grossly simplified), but most importantly it emphasizes the fact that cycle does not end, life does not disappear.

EDIT: One can argue that we are part of nature in itself and that anything we do(including feeding goats to lions and taking photos of cats in silly costumes) is part of nature. Of course, one can argue the opposite, but I'd rather not go into a battle of opinions on something so frivolous because these battles don't usually lead to an intelligent discussion.

I don't get why you are being downvoted.

We are a part of nature, too. It is strange that natural seems to include all of the natural world except for us, who are a part of it.

That being said, I still don't agree with throwing a goat into a pit of lions (the goat landing on its back) just for your bemusement. Leave animals alone, let nature take care of itself.

If I was the guy throwing the goat, I would start from a ways back holding it buy its hind legs, then start spinning while taking steps forward and tossing it like a discus. Hopefully I would continually top my score, and there would be added entertainment value seeing the lions eventually catch on and play the outfield in hopes of snagging it in mid-air
