Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Caves are quite safe during earthquakes, as a matter-of-fact. People have reportedly been inside a cave during an earthquake and walked out not knowing one had even occurred.

Geologists believe that the effects of earthquake tremors are less in caves than on the surface. The shock waves that would have the most potential to cause damage to caves actually do very little because they are unable to travel through a gaseous medium—that is, the air in the cave. The force arrives at the cave wall, displaces the air and is absorbed with relatively little effect.

I've seen fault lines along cave walls that have cut through formations like columns and shifted them sideways, but otherwise left them undamaged. It's interesting stuff.

I love spelunking. Too bad I'm also terrible in tight spaces; I can only explore "open" caves.

I'm the opposite. I don't like climbing because I'm shorter than most guys and have a harder time reaching holds and stuff, but I'm great with tight spaces. At least I know I can't fall.

I'm shorter than most guys, too (5'8 without shoes, 5'7 before I did yoga for a couple years). I am mostly okay in caves, but if I have to try and squeeze through a lava tube that's smaller than the width of my own shoulders, I shut down.

Have you tried bouldering? I don't like climbing for similar reasons, but bouldering is a way fun compromise.

You're about the same size as me then. I haven't done any bouldering; I could give it a try.

But yeah, I'm ok squeezing through places as long as I can move my elbows or push forward with my feet. I guess the most aggravating in general are the tunnels I have to crawl through on my side. I'll do it though as long as I'm reasonably certain that it'll open up (either I can see an opening or there's good air flow).

It looks so beautifull and so dangerous at the same time. I can swim well but I still do not know if I would have the balls to lower myself in their.

I wouldn't wanna be anywhere near an earthquake.

If the area this cave is in was susceptible to earthquakes, you probably wouldn't see those formations.

Anyone else see those things hanging down and think: "Switch to the crowbar!"
