Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

Call me naive... but why do you have a website if you don't want to use bandwidth? Isn't that how a website functions? Isn't that expected when running a website, especially one you make available to the public?

He probably doesn't want to use up all of his monthly bandwidth allocation by serving a Reddit link that doesn't further the business goals for which he pays for bandwidth.

A lot of hosting services only allow a few gigabytes a month on basic services; I think that some ISPs will charge by the gig beyond a certain point.

Chances are the host isn't getting any benefit (ad hits, business customers, or new users) from hosting this picture.

Yeah it is from Deadpool #27.

Deadpool is pretty much my favorite of Marvel. Here is my close second favorite.

Geek mode - ENGAGE! Sure, the character in those panels may look like Deadpool, but it was, in fact, a shapeshifter (Copycat) disguised as Deadpool. Copycat is one of Deadpool's ex-lovers, and in this issue, she wanted him back. The red head (Syrin) is the girl Deadpool is currently in love with. Copycat was just getting rid of the competition.

If it's original content, link to the original site. Otherwise, imgur.

It's basically so the artist gets credit. In this case because it's a comic book which is rehosted, there's no point of linking to the site as it's not the owner's work. Therefore taking load off the server and going to imgur is the sensible option. If it was a comic created by the site owner, for example, link to the site, not a repost on imgur.

I don't understand how this is confusing to people. If the site is a pretty major and established source of content that isn't going to get totally demolished by a reddit visit, post the site. Don't hotlink the image, post the page.

If it's a relatively small site, like some guy who just posts articles about comics every so often or something, basically anything that's going to risk completely crashing when reddit comes over for a visit, then rehost it on imgur. Be a decent person and link to the original site in the comments, or attach the url to the image before you imgur it, either way give credit to the source.

  • host to imgur if the material is taken from another site which you did not find it on. imgur can handle the bandwidth - the site you found it from most likely cannot.

  • host to imgur if you created it.

  • do not host to imgur if it is original content that you found on some site. for example, an xkcd comic. give them the visits. the more people that visit, the more revenue they receive from ads and whatnot. youre doing them a favor by exposing people to their site

FUCK NO. If you post from the original site, you not only reduce the risk of reposting, but you more often also give credit where it's due. We can also often see some context from the image, or browse the site for similar images, rewarding a website for good content with ad revenue.

If it's a bullshit page and you just want to share the image and nothing else, right-click the image you want to share, and click "copy image address."

Wow what a dick move. Seriously if your server can't handle a few thousand hits on an image you are using a shit host. Bandwidth is so cheap now it's not even an issue. What is it like 25 cents a gig?
