Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Ad for entry level job. They expect 5+ years of experience.

Welcomes students too; means you had to start work at twelve.

psst that's not an entry level job

No one has ever solved that, which is why no one has a job.

It's sad that you could either be joking or 100% serious in today's economic climate

Well it would help if you had a degree in something useful. The only thing you can do with philosophy is post philosoraptor pictures.

in my experience? it's not WHAT you know it's WHO you know... sad and unfortunate, but that's reality.

WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD! it sucks.

Started my first job washing dishes. Any one can do that. Next job was IT for workstudy, told the guy I needed the job and Im learning the stuff. In 9 months the only IT work I really did was see if 8 computers turn on and write down if they did or did not and the specs of the ones that turned on.

Started in catering for 3 months without any service experience, got the job from my moms friend.

Current job, working with kids, didnt have to much experience. Got the job because a guy I knew in highschool was the manager and his parents owned the place. Still working there a year later even though it blows.

Internship.

Kind of a dud, today, aren't you Philosaraptor?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Socially awkward penguin: work a six month unpaid internship. No job offer at the end.

[–]asdf7890 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

But at least you have six months real-world work experience under your belt, so you are a step above the people who don't even have the internship behind them.

[–]nefrina 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

how can anyone that has bills afford to actually work at an internship? the cost it takes just to get to work each day, eat lunch and come home will dig you a hole pretty fast. not to mention your actual bills that your internship isn't helping with at all.

internships are for kids still in school that want to look better than their peers.

[–]Ignignot 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Many internships pay, often quite well depending on what field your in. Hell i got paid $16 an hour it was awesome.

"internships are for kids still in school that want to be better than their peers."

Ftfy

Aww, you were getting high after class? I was working. Upon graduation I was hired as a full time salaried employee at a production company right next to people who had college degrees.

[–]nefrina 3 points4 points ago

FTFY

"right next to people who had college degrees making more than me."

[–]girafa 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was making $38k ten years ago as a 19 year old kid. There were two other editors there, about 26yo and 35yo with college degrees, who made $40k and $45k. I was doing pretty fuckin well for myself. I made enough money to go to college eventually, and now I own my own production company.

You can't argue this theory with me. I'm living it.

Sure, how about you pay all my bills while I'm interning.

[–]girafa 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's why you start early, when you're still in high school. A guest speaker who came to my college back when I was in school gave this huge lecture on how he interned at Dreamworks (or wherever) in California for ten months, to prove himself and earn their respect. After a big 45 minute rant on his thoughts about the industry, I was the only one who bothered to ask how much the internship paid.

"Nothing." He said. Of course I asked how that was possible, and he said, "Oh, my live-in girlfriend was a manager at Home Depot, she made good money." Everyone erupted in this communal groan, since he had damn near invalidated all of his success in one swoop.

You get experience by working crappy jobs. You will probably be doing menial tasks for unappreciative bosses while being tremendously underpaid, but that's how you get your start. Expect this to last for 5-10 years. Work smart, work hard and things will get better.

THIS!

I'm graduating from nursing school at the end of the semester and I can't find anything ANYWHERE that accepts people with less than two years experience.

We have an aging work force and a nursing shortage and still, hospitals won't hire new grads. Mother fucker.

[–]Silversmith 1 point2 points ago

Two ways to solve this:

a) start at the very bottom, do hard work for next to no money,
b) bullshit like a motherfucker.

The choice is yours.

Goddamn that's how I am at the minute. In college, dad's got 3 weeks left of his redundancy notice due to no work coming into the company and I'm trying to find something to ease the pressure, at least enough to be able to pay my own for transport to college etc. Despite the decent grades nowhere wants someone who hasn't had experience. Who need's experience for a office cleaning job? Does my house count? Its frustrating for a first time job seeker.

There are employers out there who prefer little or no experience... they are just hard to find... just ask around. I find asking a friend of a friend is way more effective then send resumes everyday.

The tip I got from logging industry in BC was : most of em are super old, and they're starting to hire rookies again within the next few years.

how to get a job without experience? show a strong ability to learn independently and demonstrate that knowledge to potential employers, as a hiring manager for app sec people i dont give a shit if they only worked at mcdonalds, if they can explain how to pop a SQLi (and a lot more) then they are hired.

How to get experience without a job? You volunteer for a free internship or otherwise whore yourself out in order to get the experience.

With a compsci degree, it was 2 months washing dishes, 11 months excel/access work, then finally they'd let me program. I had no idea how much they paid interns where i work, should have went with that.

If you have a skill set but no professional experience you invent the experience and use your friends as job references.

If you don't have the skills yet, build them on your own.

Depending on the job normally just being a huge pain in the ass is a great way to get a job. When I was 16 I literally called the place everyday for a week asking if they saw my application. After a week I finally got the interview and spent another half week of annoying till I got the job. Nailed it.

You start with remedial jobs and work your way up. My first job was working produce at Whole Foods and it was terrible. My second job was working as a prep chef. I got promoted a few times and ended up staying 4.5 years. By that time, I had also graduated from a respectable university. Part of that was professional development. I left college with a sick resume, mad interviewing skills, and TONS of work experience.

Don't ever not apply to a job because it says they need someone with more experience, unless it's a specialized or higher-up position. Otherwise you're just being self-defeating. If you don't have raw experience, try to think of a similar experience you have had or highlight your skills that the experience would have otherwise given you.

It's called work for peanuts, clean toilets, whatever it takes, then earn trust, then ask for some responsibility pertaining to the experience you want, then kick ass, then get the job.

recent college grad can move back in w/ the 'rents at a minimum.

Regardless, working an unpaid internship is still better than no job and no experience.
