Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Wow, our soldiers look more and more like children every day

[–]WolfKnifeLaserTorch 47 points48 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm 19, been in the air force for 2 years now, and this guy still looks older than me.

[–]rospaya 42 points43 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Holy shit.

Nothing personal, but this just sounds wrong. Most of the states in your country prohibit you from drinking a beer until you're 21, but you can be sent out to kill people even when underage.

[–]gilligvroom 4 points5 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Can't they drink on bases with proper Military ID starting at 18? Not that that's any real consolation, I'm mostly just curious.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies!

[–]Deviltry 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That went away a long time ago... Now you've gotta be 21 on base...

It's different on some bases outside the US, but in the US, it's 21 and up.

[–]Weequay2 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

As far as I know you have to follow the law of whatever country you are in, including the US

[–]EthicalReasoning 2 points3 points ago

[–]scotaf 1 point2 points ago

Nope...I think about 20 years ago that was the case at some locations.

Yes, but mostly they have let them have a beer when they get back.

[–]ihatecinnamon 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well... it makes sense. Teens are good at damaging stuff. Give a teen a gun, send him overseas and he will kill other people. Give a teen a beer, keep him inside your borders, and he will kill his people. It's immoral, but it makes sense.

(I'm not american)

[–]shippfaced 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I thought you had be 18 to join the military? So shouldn't you be 20?

[–]danneh1017 55 points56 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You can join at 17 if your parents sign the permission slip. Seriously. I'm not making that up.

[–]knylok 34 points35 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Just make sure you don't drink or gamble. That'd be bad for you at 17.

[–]danneh1017 5 points6 points ago

I'm going to refrain from the obvious "the cake was a lie" joke.

[–]WolfKnifeLaserTorch 8 points9 points ago

Interesting. Did you graduate high school early or something?

[–]WolfKnifeLaserTorch 1 point2 points ago

No, I was 18 when I graduated. I enlisted earlier during my senior year.

[–]badposter 1 point2 points ago

17 with parental permission. I did basic training between my junior and senior years of high school.

[–]EthicalReasoning 1 point2 points ago

[–]MySonIsCaleb 15 points16 points ago

Ejaculating.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

"someone who's so turned on by something or other that they begin to produce some pre-cum/fanny juice."

I agree that he looks young... and that the hair cut and clean shaven face add to that. But also, many soldiers do start families very young. He very well could be 18 or 19.

The really bad ones don't come until you start them on solid food. Then it's an entirely different level of nastiness. But while they're breastfeeding, it's really not that bad, just mildly unpleasant.

Don't know why ill post this but this was my explanation to my parents when they asked why I have been so distant.

"Well I'm not sure what your getting at?

Like the things that bother me from the military? That the 19 year old kid who sat right next too me in school and who I saw before he deployed, died within a year of us graduating. That I saw a good friend of mine come back distraught explaining to me that he was the one who tried to save his life, that he was blown into pieces and no matter what they tried, couldn't do anything but see him die. The fact that that easily could have been anyone of the 200 of us who graduated from that class.

Or the Instructor in school who we all looked up too and respected volunteered to go into Afghanistan and died after getting hit by a IED on the 14th month of a 15 month deployment.

Dealing with borderline psychotics suffering from severe PTSD on a everyday basis. Working in mental hospitals with war veterans who had been forgotten about. That war isn't the bullshit that they talk about on the news but actually has costs of emotional and physical damage that far exceed any financial amount you could imagine and to have to see it take its toll on people you care about.

That dealing with the VA is a harder process then they tell you when you get out.

Do i need to continue? I went through a lot and I don't even know where to start to explain that I am a different person now. I haven't been close to you because I don't want you to know about some of this stuff and don't know where to start with how to be a son to you guys again and not some distant relative"

Fuck you. This young man did not volunteer to go kill brown kids. He signed on to protect his country, to receive training, to dedicate years of his life in service to an ideal. Killing "brown kids" was not a decision he made, it was a decision made by someone else. Don't besmirch the integrity of that young man.

[–]quaxon 0 points1 point ago

Fuck you.

lol, great start.

This young man did not volunteer to go kill brown kids.

Whatever his reasons, this is the end result, leaving hundreds of thousands dead.

He signed on to protect his country

No he didn't, his country hasnt been under attack or even threat of attack from another country in nearly a century, much less from Iraq or Afghanistan. He signed up to protect corporate interests.

to receive training

Yea, training to kill

to dedicate years of his life in service to an ideal.

A service that has viciously attacked dozens of third world countries in the past 50 years alone and has left millions of civilians dead across the globe for the ideal that we can and should exploit countries weaker than us to steal their resources and allow our corporations to essentially run them. If you ask me this is not a very good ideal to have.

Killing "brown kids" was not a decision he made

Again, whoever made the decision, this guy raised his hand to carry it out, making him just as guilty.

Don't besmirch the integrity of that young man

Integrity, HA! No one with a conscience, much less any integrity, would have a kid and then leave to go be involved in two highly immoral wars against other fathers and children that never did a thing to us. Fuck him and fuck all you mindless jingoists who support his actions.

There are no Air Force deployments that are longer than 6 months.

Still, 6.5/10

[–]craneryan88 2 points3 points ago

False. But most are 4-6. I will be gone for 12 months and most special tactics airmen deploy for 9-12 months.

Really? You guys are going to take a photo of a father meeting his child for the first time and turn it into an excuse to spew whatever anti-government/anti-war/anti-military crap you can conjure up, because he's wearing a uniform and was working for his family? You don't even know where he was. He could have been in Korea, Japan, Alaska, any number of places where he wasn't involved with the war.

And if your contention is that the military is inherently evil and being in the military makes people inherently evil, you're incredibly naive.

If you want to argue the ethical fine points of the world's geopolitical circumstances, there's a /politics and /military for that.

Soulless bastards.

[–]teherins 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

For real. The military is one of the few employers left that'll guarantee you a reasonable wage and health care for your family.

Most people I know in the military actually disagree with the wars we're fighting in the Middle East; unfortunately, this is the best career option available to them. Soldiers are generally just doing what they have to do; they didn't start these wars, guys. They're not ideologically-driven hate-trolls. They just want a decent life for their families.

[–]eelehton 10 points11 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Absolutely stunning. You have to admire a man who fights for what he believes in and a woman who goes through child birth by herself to support that.

[–]quaxon 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You have to admire a man who fights for what he believes in

Why? How does 'doing what you believe in' equal good when what you are doing has left hundreds of thousands of civilians dead and millions more as refuges, destroying their entire countries, ruining their day-to-day lifes, and kidnapping and torturing them?

A person who plays a direct role in these disgustingly viscous acts against two countries that never did anything to us, much less were even a threat, is absolutely not admirable, but despicable.

[–]tru3456 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I just love how the apologists are downvoting you for telling the truth. Poor people in Iraq and Afghanistan are no threat at all. They just want to live their lives. They are suffering through poverty, and war isn't helping matters one bit.

There was even a study done, and it revealed that the vast majority of Afghans don't know about 9/11. The Afghans don't even know why there is a war in their country.

[–]anonemouse2010 9 points10 points ago

anti-war bullshit

While I agree it may not belong here, it's not "anti-war bullshit". The 'anti-war' people didn't lie to get you into a couple wars. The 'anti-war' people don't torture or violate your civil rights.

I suppose by being 'pro-war' that means you can kill and plunder anyone with impunity, but war is not something that should be taken so lightly.

[–]ThriceAgainst 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes I suppose the terminology "anti-war bullshit" could be misconstrued, and I did think about editing it, but honestly I do think it was proper in this case. Listen I am not pro-war, or against people speaking their mind about war, but there are times and places for those feelings and something like this is not one of them. Would these same people, if seeing this scene in public have the stone to approach said solider/sailor/marine/airmen and call them a baby killer or worse?

People blame the military because they are the easiest target, but really where does the blame for said wars end? You put gas in your car which at one point or another that probably came from the Middle East, does that also make you a baby killer? What about the man that works in the coal mine that fires the furnaces that make the steel that is processed into the bomb? What about the computer engineer that designed the chip that puts said bomb into the window of the building? Where does the blame stop? Who says that this Airmen was even directly tied to the war at all? His badge shows that he is maintainer, but a maintainer of what? Aircraft, school busses, computers? They all wear the same badge. What war was he even a part of?

We are all enablers because we enabled the people that sit in office that make the decisions to wage this war to continue to sit there without accountability. To level a finger at one person, in his moment of joy and say, "You sir, are a baby killer" so so extremely short-sighted and bigoted of a view. People with views like that are the reason I say "anti-war bullshit" because a comment like that is bullshit, it stinks and it doesn't help a fucking thing and to be honest is just as out delusionally disconnected from reality as anything you hear spewed from the other side of the coin.

There are 3000 other threads you can rail on the war. Leave this one alone. There's a time and a place, and this is neither.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

That guy isn't here. Even if he was, he's posting it on a damn internet message board. What's the point of that?

If there was ever an apt time to discuss the war it's here with that pic to contrast ideas with reality.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yup, I remember a thread from a few months back where the picture was of a female soldier getting back from deployment and holding her child and crying, and the top comment in that thread was something like "Well, if she didn't want to miss her she shouldn't have signed up." I fucking raged on that shit (and got downvoted to hell for it), bunch of ignorant simpletons, reality is not that simple, and the hilarious irony of it was that they were displaying the same attitude Republican assholes do when they try to say that it's poor people's fault for being poor or not being able to afford healthcare or something, precisely the same logic at play, but they think they're right because "oohhhh it's different" (because it's supporting their opinion, not because it actually is or makes logical sense).

People that are like that and just encapsulate the whole thing as "well, if people wouldn't join the military there wouldn't be any war, so fuck those guys they're murderers" are, as I'm fond of saying, "Simple, to put it nicely" (i.e. you're monumentally fucking stupid and incapable and/or unwilling of understanding that this is really, really complex, let alone actually understanding all those complexities, and so you simplify it so your stupid little ego can feel good).

Sorry for the rant, I just can't stand those simpletons, they're lazy so they want things to be black and white (which they almost never are) so they ignore all but a very few factors and then try to claim that those few factors are the only ones that exist or the only ones that matter. It's a super special combination of ignorance, stupidity, and arrogance.

It's a hairband. A lot of mothers put them on their little baby girls because it's hard to tell the difference between girls and boys when they're so young and in diapers. So it is a "fashion accessory" but only to designate gender and make mommies feel that their little girls are more feminine. It's harmless.

Looks like the typical Air Force person. Join, get married too young, have kid, divorce by 2nd enlistment. Sad but true. I'm in the AF so I do speak with a bit of experience.

Or option 2

Wife has kid, gains 200 lbs, pushes cart around commissary with screaming kids, talks about how hard it is.
