Ah the white "race" (the following is copied from another thread I was talking to someone about the pre-christian Germanic religion and racism:

Yeah, what's funny is that the historical practitioners of the religion probably wouldn't view any of these fools as being in the same race as they. Historically, race was used as something that defined a culture, not a skin hue. So the Saxon practitioners of the Troth (there is no actual historical name for the religion, it was simply known as the way or the religion. So all the names we have for it are modern creations) would view themselves as a different race than the Friesian or Danish or Angle etc etc. The concept of race being a measure of melanin really didn't take off until after the emancipation of the slaves in America. Before it was easy to understand why the African races were beneath you (and therefore subject to your exploitation) because they were slaves (interestingly enough, the word Slave is introduced in English during the medieval period to refer to the slavs who were often brought back to western Europe as forced labor). But once the people of African races are no longer slaves, the good gentile white folk of Jim Crow had to come up with a better excuse for their blatant subjugation, so they taught their children that the Africans were inferior because they were all a different race than the "white" race.

You can look back in the historical record and see where people referred to the English race, the Irish race etc etc until the mid to late 1800s when race started to denote white or colored. The new "science" of Eugenics and laws like the one drop rule all helped to put into the popular mindset the idea that race was about skin color, instead of small cultural divisions (nationalism sort of stepped in to the meaning that race once had). These fools use ideas that are not only foolish and illogical, but also historically shallow and fabricated to soothe the guilty conscience while exploiting non Europeans all over the world. But now I've gone rambling.
