I apparently had an great uncle who met a similar fate as a child. My grandmother was 13 at the time and was in charge of walking her brother home. She had to rush home for something and left her brother and his friend to walk home alone. They were playing on the way home and he walked out over a ditch that was partially frozen and fell under the ice. Unfortunately the ice trapped him and he met his unfortunate demise down there he was 6 years old. Of course I'm likely leaving out details this happened before my parents were even conceived.
