and an observatory not even a quarter mile away

[–]ImLyingSorry 46 points47 points ago

[–]ImClever 4 points5 points ago

welp, this will be the one we see on the internet from now on.

[–]DICKSUBJUICY 14 points15 points ago

it is a beautiful pic though, I'd love to be tented up here, where is this?

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 6 points7 points ago

SSH I WANT TO BELIEVE.

Now I'm just going to pretend this picture is taken on another planet.

I thought that's a car...

"Aliens"

[–]Nihilophobe 3 points4 points ago

To be fair, observatories(at least those that use visible light) are generally located in semi-remote locations to reduce light pollution.

[–]ILikeSkulls 7 points8 points ago

I don't think fairness was an issue here.

[–]Balabol 2 points3 points ago

and a cameraman

[–]redtheda 0 points1 point ago

Given that this is a long exposure shot, it's on a tripod, and entirely possible that the man in the picture did it as a self-portrait with a self-timer and maybe a remote.

[–]Balabol 1 point2 points ago

Nice analysis. Maybe so.

[–]ilovetpb 0 points1 point ago

No, those are glowing demon's eyes. The guy is probably dead by now.

[–]ImClever 0 points1 point ago

And several demons on a hillside.

[–]BSpradBong ripper 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was a snowcat that takes skiers into the backcountry until I zoomed all the way in. At least the observatory gives reference to the size of the mountains.

[–]CrydebrisSpace is deep 14 points15 points ago

Whats up with the lights on the mountain side?

[–]AL85 13 points14 points ago

looks like the light from headlamps to me. possibly other mountaineers.

[–]Gimme_Some_Sunshine 4 points5 points ago

ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL

[–]MrYum 3 points4 points ago

I think it might be from where he stood up and moved around (from his head lamp)

[–]Duhya 0 points1 point ago

But then how did he teleport?

[–]ImLyingSorry 2 points3 points ago

[–]Garage_Dragon -1 points0 points ago

I would guess the reflection from his head lamp on the metal pot. If he had moved at all in this shot, there'd be a big streak of light wherever that lamp went.

[–]wexiidexiiSpace is deep 7 points8 points ago

Are those people in the background climbing that mountain with flashlights?

[–]mrRico 5 points6 points ago

good eye. at first i just thought it to be some funky effect. just you and the open sky and 4 climbers around the corner and an observatory.

[–]BBZak 5 points6 points ago

I thought they were plasma grenades, and this was the best Forge level ever in Halo.

[–]notgod -2 points-1 points ago

Doesn't look like it... looks like a glow from the lantern.

[–]wexiidexiiSpace is deep 2 points3 points ago

Those are definitely light sources from other people.

[–]notgod -2 points-1 points ago

DEFINITELY? How so?

[–]wexiidexiiSpace is deep 0 points1 point ago

Check out the way the light is bending against the mountain and also reflecting the area around it. There are people holding some sort of light source and standing on that mountain.

[–]wittewewic 7 points8 points ago

[–]warlock1010 0 points1 point ago

Do you have the link to the original post? I'm looking for a bigger resolution.

[–]OliverCloazoff 0 points1 point ago

Thank you

[–]Bohzee 0 points1 point ago

hm, is it just me or is this pic slightly blurred? kinda ruins it for me :/

[–]wittewewic 0 points1 point ago

The picture itself might be blurry but this is the original link from the post on /r/wallpapers

[–]itissafedownstairsSpace is deep 3 points4 points ago

reminds me of the movie "DØD SNØ". Didn't end very well for the guy...

He gets eaten by SS nazi zombies

[–]t33po 25 points26 points ago

Fuck that overexposed noise. Unless there's a full moon, it's way darker and way scarier than this looks.

[–]DizzzyDee 0 points1 point ago

I feel you, I wish we could actually experience stars like this

[–]skyman724Space is deep 6 points7 points ago

Technically the sky is closed.

Just sayin'................

[–]ILikeSkulls 0 points1 point ago

Unless you're Ozzy Osbourne.

[–]skyman724Space is deep 2 points3 points ago

As an Ozzy fan, it saddens me that I do not get this reference.

[–]skyman724Space is deep -1 points0 points ago

It's funny because trying to find a song with "sky" in it by him only showed "Fire in the Sky".

[–]PorcupineDreamLiving life in peace -2 points-1 points ago

As someone with Space is deep as flair, you should know better: Space is endless...

[–]skyman724Space is deep 7 points8 points ago

Sky =/= space.

As someone composed of sky, I know this as a fact.

[–]PorcupineDreamLiving life in peace 0 points1 point ago

Sky: The sky, also known as the celestial dome, commonly refers to everything that lies a certain distance above the surface of Earth, including the atmosphere and the rest of outer space.

[–]heterosapian 0 points1 point ago

If space is expanding how can it be endless?

[–]DynamicRabbit 1 point2 points ago

It can, and it is. Physics says so.

[–]PaullyDee19 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure that's still up for debate.

[–]heterosapian 1 point2 points ago

I'm not debating it, I was hoping someone could explain it.

[–]skyman724Space is deep 0 points1 point ago

You should always be debating. In mass.

[–]TheZenji 0 points1 point ago

We consider it to be endless because we have not found the end. We know it is expanding because of the red-shifting of other celestial objects.

[–]Commentits 1 point2 points ago

JUST JUST JUST JUST JUST JU

Oh wait...

[–]IWannaVacuum 0 points1 point ago

and the freezing cold...

[–]xXNeonBlingXx 0 points1 point ago

Dead Snow reference? (a guy in a tent gets eaten by a zombie)

[–]optagon 0 points1 point ago

That's not me!

[–]EliQuince 1 point2 points ago

Hey that's my tent!

[–]necron 1 point2 points ago

What model is it, and are you happy with it? Just asking because I need a new 2 man, and I get a decent deal on MSR stuff.

[–]EliQuince 1 point2 points ago

It's a Hubba Hubba, and yeah it's good- the only 'issue' I've ever had was not putting the rainfly on correctly and, since the mesh was touching the fly, the condensation was coming down into my tent and puddled up.

Super easy set up, quality components, solid tent.

[–]necron 1 point2 points ago

Thanks... think it's worth $225?

[–]EliQuince 0 points1 point ago

I spent a little over 300 mine a few years ago, and besides a little mold thing (weird white mold on the tent stakes from packing it wet, didn't affect anything), it looks brand new.

The set up is the best part about it- there's only one tent pole and you can pretty much just throw it in the air and the frame will snap together. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up and take down, and I really like the mesh in the spring time, nice and cool. Probably not great for 4 seasons, but guy in picture is obviously unaffected so, shrug.

[–]necron 1 point2 points ago

Thanks on the info, I'm in for one. MSR makes great stuff, with my stove, cookset, filter, and snowshoes I'll have a full set after the tent... although I had one in the past already.

On the 4 season thing, I've read that the only thing holding a tent back from being called '4 season' is it's ability to not collapse after getting a foot of snow accumulation.

[–]EliQuince -1 points0 points ago

MSR is definitely the balls. Enjoy the gear!

[–]meridiem 1 point2 points ago

How long did he have to sit there for the exposure time?

[–]jimlandau 0 points1 point ago

And someone to take your picture.

[–]gigamosh57 1 point2 points ago

What mountain is that?

[–]Gabe_b 0 points1 point ago

Looks like he just upped his estus flask count to 10

[–]Universal_Love 1 point2 points ago

What an awesome shot. I love it

This is my favorite shot from NG.

[–]startstorambleon 1 point2 points ago

I'm pretty certain that's Mont Blanc Du Tacul (Chamonix) off to the left there.

[–]jmarks7448 0 points1 point ago

I wonder how long that guy had to stand still i this picture

[–]bbristowe 1 point2 points ago

Ugh, every time I see photos with a wonderfully full lit sky I begin to hate where I live with all the BS light pollution.

[–]trollingfortuna 0 points1 point ago

I want to do this for a living somehow...

[–]20202020_ 0 points1 point ago

and the truck on the mountain, jeez

[–]cedricchase 1 point2 points ago

man. i need to fucking get out of my house.

[–]drb00b 0 points1 point ago

[–]bigbadler 0 points1 point ago

[–]mrcloudies 0 points1 point ago

Well you, the sky.. And what looks like an assassin killer death bot of some kind coming over the hill there ready to murder you.

[–]Andy_Feltersnatch 0 points1 point ago

Iron giant chillin on the other side of the mountain looking up to the right

[–]Dymobe 0 points1 point ago

Please tell me there is a subreddit for these kind of photos.

[–]OverlyWordyRantburst 1 point2 points ago

You, the sky, and lurking killer automobile.

What no, there's pepple skiing and a trailer nearby (and stars.) Put some energy into the title it's the only thing that separates the articles on here :)

[–]soundhaudegen 0 points1 point ago

Why do some people experience things like this and I am just sitting in my office at work redditing.

[–]MissMap 0 points1 point ago
