those shock mounts are laughable.

The most scary fabwork I've seen

You've obviously never seen the "scaring steering" website.

I know everything starts to get screwy when you lift a truck over a certain amount, no matter how well it's done, but I have some questions for those of you who're more knowledgeable than I am.

  1. Why is it cocked to the right like it is? Sagging leaf spring, 1-2 of the 3 shock absorbers busted?

  2. That looks like a tiny axle for the amount of strain those wheels will be delivering, especially if he ever goes off-road. Either I'm mistaken and it's perfectly suitable, or this truck is made for looks and not actually going offroad. Will he snap an axle in real-world situations?

  3. That drive shaft angle is damn ridiculous. It looks like a U-joint, not a CV joint. I can't see it well, but from what I know about bad angles on drive shafts (mostly from irrigation motors hooked up to irrigation wells on the farm), if it's angled like that the yokes would either be hitting, or would wear out within a couple hundred hours (miles). Is he just wearing out U-joints constantly, or am I missing something?

  4. Looks like Texas. Any Texans able to chime in on the legality of this? In MS, you are technically required to have mud flaps if you have anything more aggressive than A/T tires. It's really never enforced, but even here in the armpit of the country, I think you'd get your ass pulled over and told to put on some sort of mud flaps to keep from knocking out windshields.

On an unrelated note, I think it's safe to say he could sell his receiver hitch. He won't ever use it again. And he's in a Chevy, what the hell is with the Suzuki sticker?

Nothing about this truck makes sense.. I'm sure I will think of more things to say later

[–]andrewms 14 points15 points ago

  1. Fatty in the passenger seat. It is Texas, after all.

[–]invalid_password 0 points1 point ago

Could be. I was gonna say the driver's dick is so small it weighs -200 pounds. That will raise the left side a bit.

[–]MrGBs 2 points3 points ago

Clearly you haven't heard about how directly proportional your dick size is to the size of your truck

  1. When you make parts longer (leaf springs, shocks, shackles), less deviation is required to make a difference. I'm looking at the middle shock on the drivers side. It's cocked. I'm sure a few other elements are a bit off too, and that makes a big difference here.

These lifts are only good for mudding/swamp riding. They don't belong on the highway, even in traffic.

  2. It looks like a 14 bolt rear end. It's strong enough for off road use. Something (pinion, ring, anxle, u-joint, ect) will break eventually, but she's a worthy candidate.

  3. It's a long drive shaft, so the angles aren't actualy that bad. Also, the rear pinion is angled up to lessen the angle further. His u-joints just get into more danger as he gets bigger, and bigger tires.

  4. No idea, but apparently safety inspections aren't needed.

I bet he hooks a D hook into the hitch for mudding recovery.

The sticker probably refers to suzuki motorcycles.

Did I miss anything?

[–]bsdboy[S] 0 points1 point ago

It looks like a 14 bolt rear end.

No way that's a 14 bolt. Spot on otherwise! :-)

[–]sunburnedaz98 K1500 w/260,000mi 2 points3 points ago

Count the bolts its a 14 bolt. :-)

10 and 12 bolt covers are rounder and have well 10 and 12 bolts respectively.

[–]bsdboy[S] 1 point2 points ago

Oh dang, you're right. It's the smaller 9.5 14 bolt (I think they're all 10.5 for some reason).
Shows you how much I know about Chevy!

[–]joedeertay 1 point2 points ago

Deff. a 14-bolt. They did come in a few variations though, some were full- floating while others are semi-floating. Obviously the FF's are going to be stronger. But if you can get your hands (cash) on the right parts, it is possible to retain the 6-bolt lug pattern with the SF, whereas the FF's only come in 8.

Source: I have 2 14-Bolt, 6-lug SF's in a shed at my parents place.

[–]sunburnedaz98 K1500 w/260,000mi 0 points1 point ago

I want a 14 bolt SF for my half ton but they are getting up there in price.

[–]joedeertay 0 points1 point ago

Exactly why I bought them....years ago. A friend of mine worked at at junk yard, and they sold them to me at 90 a pop. One is missing teeth on the ring/pinion, but the other looks to actually be in fairly good shape.

I'll get to put one in my truck one day.....one day....

[–]mogto 0 points1 point ago

Nah, you covered everything. I have a mud rig as well, and I agree that they're only good for just that.. mudding. They don't belong on the highway at all. That's why I was a bit confused. It looks to me like this thing is his semi-daily driver.

And you're right, I should've thought about it.. it doesn't take very much at all at those levels to make a difference, but that is quite some height difference.

[–]bsdboy[S] 1 point2 points ago

  1. That thing is lifted so high that there's no way the springs can keep it where it's supposed to be. If you look at the left side, it's leaning right.

  2. I think that's the stock 12 bolt, which would mean it's probably a 1/2 ton axle. If there's even a limited slip in there he's going to probably snap a shaft making a u-turn.

  3. Bad angles are an understatement. Even if everything cycles I'd be willing to bet his pinions aren't getting proper oil.

  4. CA here, it's my understanding that anything outside of the frame would require either a flap or fender flare. No idea about having the rear tire completely exposed to the driver behind?

  5. Here in CA, maybe other places, the hitch is considered part of the frame. It's pretty common for those guys here to run a hitch that extends all the way down to a legal level so they can avoid tickets.

Bonus: I'd pay to see his steering setup!

[–]caustic_cock 0 points1 point ago

5 - I believe the same law holds true in Texas. I have seen many a lifted truck with a drop hitch that most likely never tow.

Source: Texan

[–]ahhter 1 point2 points ago

  1. Texas resident here - the laws here regarding lifts are stupidly lax. There's no requirements for bumper height, mud flaps, fender coverage, etc. Basically, only two rules that I know of apply:
  • Car cannot be taller than 13 feet 6 inches
  • Headlights must be between 24 and 54 inches from the ground. 15 to 72 for tail lights.

Also, since this car seems to be in the Austin area, it has to pass a yearly emission test

[–]SchizophrenicMC 6 points7 points ago

Dammit, Texas.

[–]flippinrocksWHO TOOK MY 12MM? 8 points9 points ago

When someone bounces off those tires from the back, he will find out about broken pinions.

[–]barrettgpeck 6 points7 points ago

I like your flair, in my case it was always the 10mm.

[–]s14pete 6 points7 points ago

And police claim my "low" car is dangerous. Nothing compared to that.

[–]comptiger500098 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited with mods 3 points4 points ago

I'm just laughing at the shape of those leaf springs. Must be equivalent to solid blocks as far as stiffness.

[–]Beardamon 2 points3 points ago

At least he didn't use blocks on the leaf springs.

[–]blahyawnblahShadetree Mechanic Extraordinaire 3 points4 points ago

There's still blocks; you can tell by how high the u-bolts go.

[–]Beardamon 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I didn't bother to look that closely.

[–]bsdboy[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yea, they're at least 8".

[–]llightt 2 points3 points ago

Gives /r/Justrolledintotheshop a whole new meaning.

Round Rock... Intersection of State Hwy 45 and IH35

[–]mustangls1 0 points1 point ago

Knew it!

[–]texan01'77 Chevelle/95 Explorer (305,000+ miles) 1 point2 points ago

I was thinking Houston, but RR makes sense too.

[–]shippleton 0 points1 point ago

I literally drove through there today. Thank god I didn't see this monster there.

[–]electric_machinery 2 points3 points ago

This reminds me of farmers in the mid 90s putting flotation tires on anything with wheels.

[–]guruscotty 1 point2 points ago

I was afraid it was Texas...

[–]TubbyandthePoo-Bah 0 points1 point ago

Dat lean.

[–]karmavorous 1 point2 points ago

I would like to know what he's planning on towing with that receiver hitch at chin level.

[–]bagofwisdom 1 point2 points ago

He uses a hitch with a 3' drop of course. Towing a trailer with the tongue height that high is just silly.

[–]Gnarlet 1 point2 points ago

Either a buddy out of a mud hole, or a buddy pulling him out of a mud hole probably.

[–]happywaffle 1 point2 points ago

I know those flyovers... 512 represent!

[–]fallinouttadabox 1 point2 points ago

Was expecting 3' blocks, pleasantly surprised.

[–]Broken_Goat 0 points1 point ago

I know right? Same here.

[–]General-ColinBile 0 points1 point ago

Texas?

[–]MethodH22 0 points1 point ago

i guess everything is bigger in texas..

[–]joshrulzz 0 points1 point ago

sigh Round Rock.

[–]Ballsey 0 points1 point ago

And the funny thing? my stock TJ is probably better for mudding. I've seen something similar to this get stuck in a mud hole I shot through just fine.

[–]HereHoldMyBeer 0 points1 point ago

One fast swerve to avoid something and that towering pile of shit is going over.

[–]FAP-FOR-BRAINS -1 points0 points ago

AKA 'douchebag alert'

[–]Docist 0 points1 point ago

Sorry about your penis bro..

[–]Broken_Goat 0 points1 point ago

Well, Ill give him this...he actually got re-arched springs instead of a shit ton of scary blocks.

The rest...looks like its from a video game.

Nevermind...there are blocks. wtf...credit WITHDRAWN!

[–]LambastingFrog 0 points1 point ago

I'm going to get a car like this ... just as soon as I have a house where the entrance is on the floor above the driveway. They have those, right?

[–]Autorotator -1 points0 points ago

Not your problem, not your business.

I think it looks absolutely fucktarded but I'm happy that shit kicker found something that he likes. I wonder if people on the road wish they had the power to force others to drive whatever shitwanked clopper that person thinks is cool.

I'm glad that there's another auto enthusiast out there, I don't give two shits how bad his taste is.

That goes for donks, little slammed ricers, Jeeps that are roll hazards standing still, bosos, street legal racers, that cunt in the smart car that thinks her shit doesn't stink, the hippy douche in the Prius, the nutjob with the bible verses and troll toys hot glued everywhere, all of them. They all represent in Texas, and they all represent in YOUR state too, if you are American. Don't say that 'they don't do that here' because I've driven/ridden the continental 48 +AK and I've seen all of it in every place.

I'm glad they found something they like. They are all rockin' it.

They look fucking stupid, but I'm happy they are happy.

[–]moc_tidder_www 0 points1 point ago

It's other people's problem when it breaks and kills them...

[–]stahlpferd -1 points0 points ago

Lift is pointless since ground clearance stops at the diff

[–]ParticleSpinClass 1 point2 points ago

Not necessarily...

[–]yousedditreddit 0 points1 point ago

when offroading you use the wheels to put distance between hazards and your axles, the main reason for lifts in my experience is so you can clear higher hazards, nobody's going to try to get over a 3ft boulder by driving straight onto it

[–]AtomicYJ 1 point2 points ago

I bet with those springs he has no flex, and that if it does go offroad it's a straight mud bogger, doubt it could over a 3 ft boulder without rolling being that high

[–]yousedditreddit 0 points1 point ago

oh that truck is all show, I was just speaking for normal offroad vehicles
