A church near me had a sign that said "Be the Person Your Dog Thinks You Are", or something to that effect.

[–]Cj591 138 points139 points ago

My dog thinks i am god!

[–]PopWhatMagnitude 261 points262 points ago

My dog thinks he is god. He's dyslexic.

[–]I_Am_John_Kimble 131 points132 points ago

Hate to break it to you bro, but you might have a cat.

[–]psmit89 27 points28 points ago

Cats are dyslexic?

[–]PunishableOffence 13 points14 points ago

Yes. Tacs also have tics.

[–]SirPeterODactyl 18 points19 points ago

did someone say tits? :D

[–]FishingForCod 2 points3 points ago

[–]nordicapollo -1 points0 points ago

A verbal switcheroo.... nice twist on a tired meme.

[–]Darbaergar 1 point2 points ago

Logic? Maybe if the cat thinks it's a dog and it's dyslexic?

[–]treycook 2 points3 points ago

So, feed my dog, throw balls for him and be his best friend? I think I can handle that. Wait a minute...

[–]sanzsolo 0 points1 point ago

I didn't think dogs were delusional :P

[–]jonesyjonesy 30 points31 points ago

My dog thinks I am "Walk-man", so in other words I should become a cassette player.

[–]1stgamer 24 points25 points ago

Transform and roll out.

[–]LTVOLT 2 points3 points ago

Sony's "walkman" line includes CD and MP3 players as well, I have a Sony Walkman for MP3 and it's awesome. It also has FM radio

[–]LTVOLT 1 point2 points ago

[–]tigerstorms 0 points1 point ago

is it bad that I still have one of these in my pen drawer?

[–]matingslinkys 0 points1 point ago

How else are we to fraudulently use our Dad's credit cards when abandoned in New York?

[–]LoisMustDie946 4 points5 points ago

One by my house had a PRINTED CANVAS banner that said

"Why Charlie Brown fails."

Was really tempted to go sit in on the sermon just to see wtf they were talking about.

[–]nigrochinkspic 1 point2 points ago

Just cross your fingers no Amish people read it.

[–]Epitome_of_Vapidity 0 points1 point ago

What do you get when you cross a hopeless agnostic, a dyslexic, and an insomniac?

A person who stays up all night furiously pondering whether or not there is a dog.

[–]Xenther 58 points59 points ago

If you asked nicely I'm sure the Westboro Baptist Church would be excited to picket your funeral.

[–]bonafidebob 30 points31 points ago

Nah, you just have to be famous.

WBC doesn't seem to care what you did so much as that your funeral would draw a crowd of hotheads willing to assault offensive protestors.

I'm surprised a UCC church would encourage living the kind of life that would draw that class of mourner...

[–]dreaganyouth 10 points11 points ago

They're trying to provoke opportunities for lawsuits. They don't really do it because that's what they believe; they like the attention and the prospect of having millions of people who want to commit assault against them.

[–]pheonixvl 11 points12 points ago

The funny thing is corpses can't sue anyone...how long do they really think people are going to tolerate them?

[–]therus 12 points13 points ago

Where's Dexter Morgan when you need him

[–]opallix 6 points7 points ago

A very long time, I'd assume, because in modern America people aren't as predisposed to violence as they used to be, especially the liberal, progressive type that strongly opposes the WBC.

[–]wodewose 5 points6 points ago

wat? Cause the center and the right are just mildly opposed to what WBC is doing?

[–]CaneVandas 2 points3 points ago

I am pretty sure liberals and conservatives alike strongly oppose the WBC. There is a huge difference between conservatives and fanaticism.

[–]dreaganyouth 2 points3 points ago

legal system

[–]pheonixvl 2 points3 points ago

Yes. They are deliberately attempting to provoke assault. That assumes someone is going to break the law. If you're assuming that, it is not a far jump to guess someone's going to eventually take that assault lethal.

[–]dreaganyouth 1 point2 points ago

Saying "a dead person can't sue" is an irrelevant point though because if someone murdered that dead person they'd get legal repercussions anyways. That's what I mean. It doesn't matter if the dead person (WBC) intends legal action or not.

[–]MegaAtheist 4 points5 points ago

People always say this but no, it is not true.

[–]whatitslike 3 points4 points ago

It is 100%.

[–]dreaganyouth 2 points3 points ago

Maybe they really do believe it but is it far fetched to say they're probably intentionally flaunting their beliefs because they know people hate them?

[–]karmapuhlease 2 points3 points ago

Here's what Nathan Phelps had to say in his AMA: One, Two.

[–]MegaAtheist 1 point2 points ago

they want to be famous.

[–]lowflyingmonkey 1 point2 points ago

If we are to believe the ex-member, a son of Phelps, who did an AMA however long back you are pretty much wrong on both counts. They don't use the lawsuits to make money and they really do believe. Or at least someone of them believe and the others, the children, have been brainwashed to believe.

[–]dreaganyouth 0 points1 point ago

That's messed up. Doesn't make much of a difference, either way though.

[–]Mythandros 1 point2 points ago

They're vampires. WBC are literally blood-suckers. They provoke people to get a reaction, and because the entire "family" is made up of litigious lawyer-wannabes.

They are the lowest of the low.

[–]Alieninfusion 1 point2 points ago

Or you could just become gay and die in a horrible manner that reaches media standards. They live to picket those funerals.

[–]catdispensor 53 points54 points ago

The UCC is a great branch of protestantism. They were the church I was affiliated with before I started my journey as an atheist, and I still have no quarrels with them. Beautiful and friendly people.

[–]BoltonKsig 18 points19 points ago

I once heard them called "Unitarians Considering Christ." haha.

[–]MsCatnip 9 points10 points ago

That's what we Unitarians call them, lol.

[–]njstein 40 points41 points ago

That's like Christians that are actually Christian. Inconceivable.

[–]tejaco 5 points6 points ago

I have always loved their slogan, "God is still speaking." It's both transcendental (there is a reality beyond the world we all see) and a kick in the teeth to people who think the Bible is perfect and unchanging.

[–]mgraunk 0 points1 point ago

The first part of the slogan is "never put a period where God has put a comma". Even more of a kick in the teeth to Bible thumpers, in my opinion.

[–]mobocrat707 1 point2 points ago

thankyou. i am aslo affiliated, althogh agnostic, i really like how they operate. its like how a real christian should

[–]NakedCave 2 points3 points ago

I also grew up in the UCC. Filled with amazing people, all on open-minded journeys through life. I remember the first time I heard about evolution: in Sunday school.

When I tell people I know now that I went to church camp every year of my childhood, they do NOT get it. "What?! you went to church camp?!" Then I have to explain that the counselors would tell us about their "faith journeys" and how half of those journeys ended up at atheism. I usually mention the sex ed workshops we did too. The counselors would answer all our anonymous questions with truth and honesty.

I also served as a youth delegate to a national UCC board and got to vote on the church adopting an official doctrine of being "Open and Affirming." Basically, if you're gay, you're welcome here just like anyone else and at the national level, we are going to fight for your right to marry in the US.

The UCC had a huge hand in creating the thoughtful, open, honest, scientific person I am today. Great church to grow up in.

[–]licencevlease 81 points82 points ago

It's like everyone here thinks that atheists are the ones most against the WBC, but in reality Christians have many more reasons to want to get rid of those idiots than atheists do.

[–]mleeeeeee 16 points17 points ago

WBC just provides us anti-religious atheists with something useful to point to: namely, an extreme version of the dangers and idiocies that afflict religion in general.

[–]licencevlease 27 points28 points ago

Extremes don't necessarily show dangers. Dilutional hyponatremia is the fatal extreme of drinking water, but we don't think drinking water is bad because of the problems at the extreme end.

[–]Atario 0 points1 point ago

They also provide less-extreme, but still extreme, fundamentalists cover to point to them and say: hey, at least we're not that bad!

[–]electriophile 2 points3 points ago

If a person is stupid enough, they can take any idea and turn it into shit. Even science or atheism - eventually we'll have atheist otters killing rebels who disagree with them about the great question.

[–]Jaf207 1 point2 points ago

I'm sure most atheists now the WBC is not how most churches are.

[–][deleted] 76 points77 points ago

Congregational Church = liberal, gay-lovers

[–]Sriad 16 points17 points ago

The hippy-est major church this side of the UUs.

[–]becomingreptile 50 points51 points ago

gay-lovers

Make the best lovers

[–]NOT_ACTUALLYRELEVANT 23 points24 points ago

True, I love lesbian porn.

[–]Garrand 18 points19 points ago

This was actually relevant, I'm confused!

[–]csingleton19 8 points9 points ago

You think you aren't relevant but you always are....

[–]TheOneAndOnlyGinger 4 points5 points ago

I've noticed that too. MAY_OR_MAYNOTBE_RELEVANT might better cover the spectrum.

[–]UsandThem 2 points3 points ago

Woah. Deep.

[–]Antebios 1 point2 points ago

Me too?! We must be the only ones. AmIRight?

[–]ryoujika 0 points1 point ago

No.

[–]accostedbyhippies 2 points3 points ago

Always willing to blow you.

So I hear.

[–]deeni 3 points4 points ago

Thought you were replying to the dog comment above.

[–]accostedbyhippies 3 points4 points ago

Smear on some peanut butter.

So I hear.

[–]yepyep27 9 points10 points ago

This is the denomination I grew up with. We debated gay marriage in my Sunday school classes. It was great.

[–]LezBeOwn 2 points3 points ago

I'm confused about whether OP thinks this is a good thing or a bad thing...

[–]gingerjojo 59 points60 points ago

Clearly, you're not very familiar with the United Church of Christ (or, as the joke goes, Unitarians Considering Christ). Open and accepting, social justice minded, environmentally conscious--- look it up, look into it. You don't have to agree with it at all, but I would love if you'd at least admit there are good things going on in that movement.

I mean, come on. I know it's easy to hate on religion - I do it myself often enough - but you can't really be all that shocked that there are people who are religious and doing good in the world. I don't know if you've ever heard of this one guy - he was a preacher, and he's pretty well known for what he did. His name was Martin Luther King, Jr...

[–]MikeTheInfidel 17 points18 points ago

I grew up in that church. It's pretty amazing. I've never felt less judged than when I was there.

(edit: by 'that church' I mean the UCC, not this specific church.)

[–]Dtownston 8 points9 points ago

Yup. The UCC is a really great example of a church that is truly open and affirming. Its really the only reason I have not lost all hope for Christianity as a "peaceful and positive" religion.

[–]WubWubWub706 6 points7 points ago

Good point. It's important to remember this

[–]yellekc 6 points7 points ago

I never heard of them until about 10 years ago. My grandparents went to a retirement home ran by them. I've been to a few homes and it was by far one of the best I've ever seen. They had field trips, activities, games, dogs and cats were brought in occasionally to comfort the residents. The home my grandma was at previously was a for profit institution. The difference in care and compassion was stark. One was trying to meet the minimum amount of care possible to not to get sued or shut down, while the other was trying to provide the best care possible with the resources available.

I promised myself that at some point later in my life, I will make a sizable donation to United Church Homes. They seemed far more focused on doing good deeds, than the dogmatic rituals that most churches are centered around.

[–]Asmor 28 points29 points ago

Wow.

That's a fantastic idea. Turn getting picketed by the WBC into a badge of honor!

Reminds me of some comedian... I don't remember who. Maybe Wanda Sykes? Christ, I don't even remember if they were male or female. Anyway, they had a bit about taking back the word nigger by making a delicious snack food called niggers. I remember lines like, "You can't have a party without niggers!", "No one wants crackers..."... etc...

Oh, and as a well-off white guy who just wrote the N word a whole lot, I'm going to go wallow in feelings of shame, guilt, and inexplicable fear. Toodles.

[–]NicolaiStrixa 11 points12 points ago

Words only have the meaning we attach to them, otherwise they're simply a set of noises.....

[–]Asmor 7 points8 points ago

Tell that to my subconscious. :)

[–]bworking 4 points5 points ago

Just be a swell off-white guy.

[–]aubleck 2 points3 points ago

It's Black History month, you're just doing your part.

[–]novaginas 1 point2 points ago

The reason for the season.

[–]Atario 2 points3 points ago

That's a fantastic idea. Turn getting picketed by the WBC into a badge of honor!

I say we set up a web site honoring everyone who's ever been protested by the WBC. It would be an ongoing cumulative list of accolades-receivers.

[–]fire__and__ice 0 points1 point ago

The comedian you're thinking of is Ralphie May. The 'delicious nigger cookies' bit was from his most recent (I think?) show called Too Big to Ignore.

Also: Ralphie May fucking rocks, so have an upvote for liking his work!

Edit Here's a video of said racial cookie bit. It's worth watching for the giggles and insight! http://youtu.be/oS1YnbS4uMs

[–]hewomahjuji 9 points10 points ago

Upvote for Wantagh :)

[–]TheBaconBaroness 8 points9 points ago

This is my home town! They always have great sayings, and I can personally say that I have seen many of them. It gets changed every week. Sometimes they're more religious than others ex: "does Easter mean beans to your kids?" Or less religious "today's mighty oak is yesterday's nut that held it's ground." Etc.

[–]migraine516 6 points7 points ago

Is that the Wantagh in Nassau county, NY?

EDIT - yes it is. I'm happy to have rational christians in my neck of the woods.

[–]prezz85 3 points4 points ago

Right on Wantagh avenue just north of Sunrise, yeah

[–]dl1892ab 5 points6 points ago

That's a U.C.C. church, they are very liberal and chill. My Mom is a UCC minister. If I were to be religious, I would definitely cast my lot with them.

[–]loves2spooge89 6 points7 points ago

Is this in Wantagh, New York?

[–]jayelwin 5 points6 points ago

Yes. Home of Jones Beach!

[–]entyliv 6 points7 points ago

Yay UCC! This is the church I was raised in, although I don't identify as Christian, I can confirm that it is full of awesome, loving and accepting people. Their motto is "dont place a period where God put a comma" which I love, because it implies that God is still speaking and that the bible is outdated and we should listen to our own moral code rather than accepting what the church tells you is "right"... The UCC church I went to in a very conservative part of Atlanta was lead by a lesbian pastor and she rocked!!

[–]Knight of /newdumnezero 0 points1 point ago

Their motto is "dont place a period where God put a comma" which I love, because it implies that God is still speaking and that the bible is outdated and we should listen to our own moral code rather than accepting what the church tells you is "right"

Ah, so they're not actually christians, but more like humanists.

[–]entyliv 0 points1 point ago

Haha well... They think as Jesus ad the best example of being human. They try to live by his ideals, rather than the rest of the churches bullshit.

[–]Knight of /newdumnezero 1 point2 points ago

Yes, well that's a erroneous mentality, since everything those people know about the Jesus character literally comes from the bible and churches; there's no way to have one without the other.

Also, Jesus was an asshole, but I'm sure they ignore that part of the story.

[–]quisqualate 5 points6 points ago

upvote for Wantagh

[–]User9052 4 points5 points ago

Upvote for Wantagh, NY. I miss you, Long Island.

[–]ShockingConclusion 19 points20 points ago

Downvote for never thinking you'd ever agree with a church sign. Pretty closed minded. I wouldn't disagree with something just because a church said it. Bad look for atheists.

[–]SirPeterODactyl 2 points3 points ago

So much this.

the facts in the statement is what matters. not who said it.

[–]Knight of /newdumnezero 0 points1 point ago

Knowing you said it tells us more about the nature of the statement, like if it is hypocritical or just lies.

[–]Atario 1 point2 points ago

Someone admitted he had been wrong?

DOWNVOTE

[–]360walkaway 3 points4 points ago

Kind of a stretch to call the WBC a church.

[–]stiff_sock 3 points4 points ago

That church is about 10 minutes from my house.

[–]licencevlease -1 points0 points ago

Minutes are a measurement of time, not distance.

[–]suckitverizon 3 points4 points ago

Damn Long Islanders!

[–]MatrixPA 2 points3 points ago

What a concept! Christian Christians!!!

[–]thoroldjames 0 points1 point ago

plenty of christians are a great deal more christian than the people who enjoy the power of leading their churches....i would never blame most americans for the heinous things their leaders do on occasion

[–]flyingweaselbrigade 2 points3 points ago

When you're right, you're right, no matter what. Whoever put that sign up is right.

[–]bigcocksuckerinit 2 points3 points ago

If that inspires someone to do something positive and/or impactful with their life... I'm all for it. If it pisses off those backwards ass rednecks, I'm definitely all for it.

[–]MarvinLazer 0 points1 point ago

They seem to be most partial to protests involving the weakest, most persecuted, or most heroic people in the US, because those are the victims who will make an incident that would allow them to sue somebody most likely. WBC is a lawsuit scam. Pass it on.

[–]BTMaverick707 0 points1 point ago

Someone at that church must of seen Neil Tyson's tweet.

[–]dreaganyouth 0 points1 point ago

Or neither of them thought of it before the other and the phrase probably just emerged from the internet somewhere.

[–]Kick-the-Cheat -1 points0 points ago

*must have

[–]BTMaverick707 -1 points0 points ago

It's a Fresno thing... You must of seen this from a mile away.

[–]prezz85 2 points3 points ago

I've been riding my bike past that church for about a decade. They always have the most up listing and positive comments on their sign. They approve of gay marriage, other faiths, and I have even seen positive atheist based messages. They are so good that I am tempted to go to church there just to show my support

[–]chris315 2 points3 points ago

Just aimlessly paroozing through reddit.. Wantagh.. HEY I LIVE THERE!

Gave me a good laugh when I drove past this sign.

[–]Stares_at_walls 0 points1 point ago

paroozing

[–]ZanderGarner 3 points4 points ago

Garner... I'm a Garner. This is definitely something I would say. I wonder where the relation starts.

[–]boinger 1 point2 points ago

Nice. That's been the motto of Live Your Good Life's Facebook Page for a while, based on the quote by Emmet Bondurant

[–]Cyan_Rook 2 points3 points ago

I don't think I can agree with this sign. It should either be Pastor Ron Garner or Ron Garner, Pastor. Unless his last name is Pastor, but that would be weird... Pastor Pastor...

[–]Jeffool 0 points1 point ago

It would be weird... But it would also be kind of awesome.

[–]jlux21 0 points1 point ago

I agree. I never thought you would say that. Me either.

[–]jamessavik 1 point2 points ago

If the Westburo retards come to my funeral, I'm going to become a hellspawn and kick their ass so bad they will forget getting ass raped by phred phelps

[–]Jetlaya67 0 points1 point ago

I like it!

[–]kauff 1 point2 points ago

I live two blocks away from this church they have some funny signs

[–]Tsugua354 0 points1 point ago

New life philosophy

[–]Dskipp 0 points1 point ago

Amen.

[–]ReyTheRed 0 points1 point ago

The only thing in my life that the WBC has a chance of agreeing with is kinky sex, because sometimes I dominate women which is Biblically supported. Of course, they will have a problem with it being non-marital, and the idea that the woman actually consents is probably foreign to them, so I guess if my death is of significant note, they will protest it.

[–]dvdamurdoc 1 point2 points ago

I went to a ucc church growing up, we had an openly lesbian minister for several years. Also went to the national convention or whatever they call it on a youth group trip, sure enough WBC was there protesting.

[–]deathbydullcubicle 0 points1 point ago

I think that sign describes what is the litmus test for worldly success.

[–]KippySmith 1 point2 points ago

Not all those who believe in a God are bad people. It's just the bad ones which are loudest.

[–]rasungod0 1 point2 points ago

See how low WBC has fallen, that other Christians turn on them?

[–]TheBaconBaroness 1 point2 points ago

I live around there, and their absolute BEST quote was "bigotry wrapped in prayer is still bigotry." BAM. I had to check with my sister, but that's the exact quote. Loved it.

[–]SamNash 0 points1 point ago

Not sure I'd wish Westboro Baptist's presence upon anyone.

[–]Amalasan 0 points1 point ago

WBC, the US's 2nd biggest trolls

[–]monodelab 0 points1 point ago

Who's number one?

[–]rvb123 1 point2 points ago

Not entirely sure how this relates to atheism but hey, that's the best sign I've seen in a long time.

[–]bobholly -2 points-1 points ago

But don't be gay.

[–]Morgothic 0 points1 point ago

While researching an answer to someone's question in this thread, I found this interesting bit of information:

On May 29, 2006, President George W. Bush signed into law the Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act (Pub.L. 109-228), prohibiting protests within 300 feet (91 m) of the entrance of any cemetery under control of the National Cemetery Administration from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after a funeral. Penalties for violating the act are up to $100,000 in fines and up to one year imprisonment. The bill garnered overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress with a 408–3 vote in the House, with 21 not voting, and a unanimous vote in the Senate.

On August 2, 2012, Congress passed a bill that included restrictions on demonstrators at military funerals, which became law four days later when signed by President Obama. The bill says that for 2 hours before until 2 hours after the funeral service demonstrators must stay at least 300 feet (91 m) away from the boundary of the funeral location and away from the residence of grieving family members.

And 4 states have written their own laws limiting funeral protests.

[–]dangermouse13 0 points1 point ago

I like what you did there..

oh dear, I grew up in this neighborhood and remember all the silly phrases posted there. Another notable one; "God is just like Coca Cola, The Real Thing".

[–]Jlaug 0 points1 point ago

That's a sign for the UCC. They're one of the more liberal Christian denominations.

[–]erraticerror 0 points1 point ago

you didn't say shit...you typed it up on a computer!

[–]Syrele 0 points1 point ago

Who is Westbrook baptist church and why are they against life?

[–]raddat 0 points1 point ago

So did Facebook God steal this from OP, or did OP repost this from Facebook God?

[–]Jpmilz 0 points1 point ago

Hey you might dislike religion, but don't be prejudice that all religions agree on things because the episcopalian christian church has been in the front line of gay rights pickets, racial rights pickets, and women right pickets, and they worship from the bible.

[–]rowbot422 0 points1 point ago

Hell yeah UCC! they do religion right; love Everyone (capital E), love the earth, love peace, hate haters.

[–]Kenziecocktail 0 points1 point ago

I have a theory that the Westobor Baptist Church is really an atheist/liberal group that preaches only the crazy parts of the bible to draw attention to how insane and ludicrous the whole thing is. They make so many people angry at their crazy ideas and then one day people are all like ' oh well you know that is in the bible... maybe they aren't the crazy ones, maybe all christians are a little crazy'. Think about it...

[–]kdemetter 2 points3 points ago

You are giving them to much credit, but it's true that through their actions, it becomes clear how dangerous lack of critical thinking and blind faith is.

With regard to the Bible, to me it looks like a test for critical thinking : it's a holy book filled with horrible punishments.

If you read about Moses and the plagues and think : "a good god wouldn't do this" , you passed the test.

[–]Capwnski 0 points1 point ago

I wish my church used brotips for their signs

[–]BAXterBEDford 0 points1 point ago

Most Congregational churches are really quite liberal. I attended one that had a lesbien minister when I was in college.

[–]boobies_boners 0 points1 point ago

I'd love to go to that church's bingo night. Church, not so much.

[–]Olznz 0 points1 point ago

In other words go to war?

[–]Maren86 0 points1 point ago

LOVE IT

[–]champagnecyanide 1 point2 points ago

I am always happy when I see religion doing it right.

[–]pnoyben13 0 points1 point ago

I thought the sign would say "Live so fully that bitches wanna find me."
I expected too much.

[–]tejaco 0 points1 point ago

You go, Congregationalists!

[–]FleetwoodMacNCheese 1 point2 points ago

WANTAGH!

[–]lisainla 0 points1 point ago

Hell yeah!

[–]whenimdone 0 points1 point ago

Not hard, they will go there for practically nothing.

[–]Kinglouieb 0 points1 point ago

I wish it said love instead of live...

[–]Gawayne01 0 points1 point ago

Haha! This sign is amazing.

[–]prozit 0 points1 point ago

They hate swedes right? Seems like I'm doing fine then.

[–]zolonman 0 points1 point ago

Seen this one on my walks: http://imgur.com/bMbNxPx

Same church sign (cant find the pic right now), also had: "Speak well of your enemies, after all you made them"

[–]doodlefang 0 points1 point ago

I too live near this church. One time it said "Bigotry wrapped in prayer is still bigotry." I had to give it a 'not bad' nod.

[–]Slooth_Demon 0 points1 point ago

"YOLO"

[–]SwampYankeeSocialist 0 points1 point ago

WBC protests everthing, how does that help?

[–]ParzivaI 0 points1 point ago

I saw a church sign in Memphis, TN that said "Goals without plans are dreams". I tell my children that now, and I'm not a church/god dude.

[–]xaronax 0 points1 point ago

[–]BenjPas 0 points1 point ago

So... join the military?

[–]MissHoover 0 points1 point ago

What does this have to do with atheism?

[–]aka_butters 0 points1 point ago

It's a congregational church... I grew up going to one, most laid back group of Christians I've ever met, they even had a homosexual minister for a while. They're all about living your life as a good happy person and giving back to the community.

[–]ErenVae 0 points1 point ago

Stop posting about the damn wbc, stop upvoting this stuff. They thrive on the attention that society gives to them. Give them the level of attention that they deserve.

[–]BlizzGamer 0 points1 point ago

I never thought I say this, but I don't understand what the church sign says.

[–]koavf 0 points1 point ago

How is this about atheism?

[–]okayifimust 0 points1 point ago

this isnt your post or picture, but i have some background info on this church, as my parents and i are members. its the first congregational united church of christ. they are extremely open and affirming. the comma in the right hand corner is their logo, "no matter who you are, or where you are on lifes journey, you are welcome here." is their slogan, pro gay rights, pro pretty much everything. as left handed as a church can be. its full of love filled people who condem prety much nothing

As soon as I get the cash, Westboro is going to have a truck shaped hole in its wall.

I pass this church everyday on my way to the train station. I hope the WBC doesn't find out about this and come picket the sign/church... traffic on wantagh avenue will suck :(

I think some pastors are secretly atheist, or just plain great people. Like this guy I'm friends with. Runs a soup kitchen, blesses gay civil unions, says he is cool with atheists and that if you're a good person, if heaven exists, you'll still get there regardless if you "accepted lawd jebus as your lord and savior."

UCC is probably the most progressive mainstream branch of Christianity

sorry, but this is fake. look at the actual sign here This was generated by Church sign generator and 'shopped.

I'm getting sick of seeing this sign, it's implying that to make the westro baptist church picket your funeral yo have to do something extraordinary with your life. Well guess what? You don't. These guys would picket all of our funerals if they knew what we've done and seen on the internet.
