This was actually only one of 3 major pile ups that happened yesterday in Ohio. 50 car pile-up on 75 near Middletown (north of Cincinnati). 20+ car pile-up north side of Columbus. 87 car pile up I-275 north of Cincinnati where a 12 year old girl died. "Eighteen years on patrol, and I've never seen anything like it," Hamilton County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Knapp.

[–]sayidOH 121 points122 points ago

Also they were not just flurries. It was a white out with gusts of 20 mph. I was driving on 675 the same time those crashes occurrd, and it was scary as fuck

[–]TravtheCoach 31 points32 points ago

Seconded, except I was "safely" on 71 just about to get off at Kings Mills when this bullshit started.

[–]skoalsteeze 24 points25 points ago

Yeah man, I was sitting on my couch, and shit just started getting wild. I'm glad I stayed safe

[–]mabols 6 points7 points ago

I was exiting kings mills onto 71 when this happened. It wasn't merely "flurries" as the OP titled. Not safe for anyone. :(

[–]MikeTython7 15 points16 points ago

Yeah I woke up that morning and it was snowing so hard i couldn't see the end of my street, it was crazy. By 3 it was like it never even happened.

[–]PenguinBomb 23 points24 points ago

I was going to call the fucker out. No way this was just flurries...

[–]MikeTython7 14 points15 points ago

It wasn't even forecasted, just a small freak storm. It was a white out in my neighborhood and like 10 miles away it was fine.

[–]MtNeverest 7 points8 points ago

The gusts were only 20mph and it was a white out? Seems odd, is that a typo?

[–]um_panic26 4 points5 points ago

I lol'ed at the 20 mph gusts.

[–]Pazzidoodle 2 points3 points ago

Agreed, it was not just flurries. We are way used to that. My parents were out there too. Glad to hear you were okay!

[–]Maverick8917 17 points18 points ago

I'm from Middletown and this is the first time in my 25 years I've seen anything like what happened. These storms really did hit out of nowhere. I took my first dog outside around 10am to see there was a few cm of snow on the ground but it wasn't sticking to pavement. I brought her back in to take out my second dog and in a span of literally 2 minutes I walk back out to a white out. I mean parking lot and cars covered in about a quarter of an inch.

If you see videos of people traveling in the opposite lanes. The highway is completely covered. Granted a lot of Ohioans drive stupid, there was no way anyone could prepared for that.

[–]kaydpea 5 points6 points ago

I grew up in Middletown, lived all over. There is no donut better than Miltons. Anywhere.

[–]MothaFuckaJonesBitch 26 points27 points ago

It's actually kind of offensive to make it seem like all drivers in this area are idiots. "Flurries" were not the case at all. Visibility was gone for a couple minutes due to a white out. So, this isn't what happens when it "flurries". This is what happens when people cannot see while driving 50+ on a major highway.

[–]krackenbow 15 points16 points ago

As a person from a very rural area the thought of a pile up amazes me still. Even on the closest "highway" I think I'd have to sit for hours just to count 87 cars.

[–]BWV431 4 points5 points ago

The little girl who died was in my school district. What makes it worse is that it wasn't even the crash that killed her. Her family got out of the car because they smelled gas, and then a car hit a power line and it fell on her. Very, very sad day today.

[–]Chimie45 4 points5 points ago

I never know what to say is the 'North Side' of Columbus. It happened -North- of Down Town, but it was still inside the Outerbelt, which as someone from Columbus, I do not consider the North side.

[–]B7U12EYE 4 points5 points ago

Columbus checking in; I would consider anything on or within the outerbelt to be considered the Greater Columbus Area, It wouldn't surprise me if some people would even consider Polaris to be considered Northern Columbus.

EDIT: I guess Columbus Metropolitan Area, is the more used term.

[–]ambr333 9 points10 points ago

I'm from Columbus too, I have always considered Polaris the Northside of town, all the way back to when it was just an awesome outdoor amphitheater.

[–]Cannedbeans 2 points3 points ago

Ha! I forgot all about it being the ampitheater!

[–]sith_mama 405 points406 points ago

There was a microburst accompanied by a white out. Visibility was basically gone for 2 minutes. Not all Ohio drivers are dumb shits, conditions just got horrible for a minute.

[–]Remmy14 29 points30 points ago

Thank you for posting this. I live and work south of Dayton, and we were all shocked by how quickly it came on. It was even worse further south. This was no mere "flurry." Think along the lines of 3 inches of snow in 5 minutes time....

[–]Totenglocke42 148 points149 points ago

Well, as someone who lives in Cincinnati, everyone wants to drive 75 mph with only a couple of inches between cars. If idiots kept a safe distance, this wouldn't have happened.

[–]AJ2425 47 points48 points ago

Cinci has had the weirdest weather lately, at least in Amelia we are having like 60s one day then -10 the next

[–]Lishpful_thinking 44 points45 points ago

Lately? You aren't used to it yet?!

[–]Noodle- 18 points19 points ago

Welcome to Ohio where there's tropical summers and arctic winters

[–]Smartman136 15 points16 points ago

Want spring? Heres some snow. Whats that, you want fall too? Heres some blisteringly humid weather.

[–]ryan101 3 points4 points ago

Don't like all that? Just wait till tomorrow. It'll be completely fucking different from the forecast.

[–]Blunkus 24 points25 points ago

[–]effinnewguy 31 points32 points ago

You know what they say...if you dont like the weather in ohio.........wait 10 minutes

[–]guenther_ 7 points8 points ago

Amelia? Goddamn the Internet is so small.

[–]B7U12EYE 12 points13 points ago

Columbus here; Whenever coming down to the 'Natty on 71, I mentally prepare myself as soon as I hit 275. Especially when you get south of Euclid, 75 mph may be an average but 85 is not uncommon.

[–]Cannedbeans 14 points15 points ago

Yup. Sometimes I'm on 71 S on cruise @75mph in the slow lane, and people are flashing their lights at me like, get the fuck over! Where, man? The berm? You want I should go left and get decimated by the people changing lanes going right with no blinker on? And these cars are generally Dodge Omni/Yugo quality vehicles. Where is the power coming from? Who bores out their Ford Escort wagon?

[–]SteveSharpe 6 points7 points ago

I'm an Indiana driver who drives in Cincy daily. I might be one of those guys going 85, but I promise you'll get no flack from me if you're in the slow lane. It's those dorks going slow in the passing lane that irk me.

[–]nose_twitch 3 points4 points ago

As a fellow southeast Indiana driver I know your pain. Ever get behind a buckeye on 56 on their way to the boat? It can make you want to rip your hair out.

[–]Cannedbeans 2 points3 points ago

See, I have the courtesy to do that shit before the sun comes up. :D

[–]randomlyoblivious 3 points4 points ago

Akron & Cincinnati here; It really was a shock how the speed limits are disregarded on the highways down here when I moved. People here will let you in and actually attempt to merge before the cones cut them off. I'd take it over the "Hey it's a light sprinkling rain......time to back it down to 35" Columbus traffic. It's easily the worst part of my drive home.

[–]Raptorace22 9 points10 points ago

As someone who lives in Oregon where everyone wants to drive 10 miles under the speed limit, I envy you.

[–]elmarisol 11 points12 points ago

I wouldn't envy us after seeing that picture...

[–]Raptorace22 9 points10 points ago

Car accidents happen no matter where you live. It's not like Cincinnati is the pile-up capital of the world.

[–]Narmotur 3 points4 points ago

Not with that attitude it isn't!

[–]SteelyTuba 10 points11 points ago

As someone who lives just south of Cincinnati, I agree that tailgating is a serious problem. I also contend that it must be a state law that everyone in Ohio is required to cruise in the passing lane as much as physically possible. Also, turn signals appear to be illegal.

[–]soothaa 23 points24 points ago

Cincinnatian here. The rest of the day even with no snow anywhere the people continued to drive like the dumbest fucks ever. ALL DAY. It was miserable. I missed this pileup by an hour or two on my way to work, they were cleaning it up when I took a trip to Microcenter later..

[–]LtDanUSAFX3 6 points7 points ago

I took a trip to Microcenter... Small world...

EDIT: The same Microcenter.

[–]sabianplayer 3 points4 points ago

I know the exact Microcenter you're talking about. One reasonably close to target world, right?

[–]RelativeTruth 7 points8 points ago

Especially on I-75. Speed limit is 55mph, people are doing 90 easily. There's no shoulder either, so when someone slams on their breaks, the only place you have to go is into their car.

[–]Megnanimous 3 points4 points ago

NJ here, 75 is "slow" in my area of the NJP. We seem to get along without too much trouble. Are there a lot of accidents in Cincin?? (I'm relocating to Ohio in a few months and terrified I'll behave like the drunk relative nobody likes at the wedding when driving out there...)

[–]ninetoeleven 17 points18 points ago

Cincin Cincy

FTFY

[–]swiftheart 6 points7 points ago

I met a guy who moved to Ohio from Connecticut but kept his CT plates. Like still has CT plates even though he's been in Ohio for over ten years now.

I asked why go through all the cost and inconvenience (Ohio is a relatively cheap state to register in.)

He said that he can get away with a lot more with CT plates, he thinks he'd get pulled over more with Ohio plates.

Two quick suggestions for you:

1.) Ohio cities have an almost universal and unexplainable hatred for u-turns. Do a u-turn only where it's specifically allowed or in townships.

2.) We are notorious left lane hogs. If someone is in the left lane, just pass them on the right. Don't wait for them to move, because more likely than not they're just waiting for you to pass them on the right, and if you aren't, will assume that you're happier where you are.

[–]Jaxtile 3 points4 points ago

What the fuck? Pass on the right?

[–]grace72795 2 points3 points ago

No I would say there is a little bit of everybody here: fast, slow, normal. When it comes to the highways, I be careful and stay in the right lanes mostly because there are some daring people. Be careful though! Don't drive crazy and then one day regret it if something like this happens

[–]Paratek 30 points31 points ago

As someone who lives across the bridge in Northern Kentucky, I respectfully disagree that not all Ohio drivers are dumb shits.

[–]ChrisWithanF 9 points10 points ago

Fellow Northern Kentuckian here, all places have drivers that are idiots, and that aren't.

[–]HairlessWombat 13 points14 points ago

From the NKY, only thing worse than an Ohio driver is a Michigan driver.

[–]freshman30 7 points8 points ago

Sorry, but what about Michigan drivers? The only cars I ever see in accidents here are either from other states or the drivers are old.

[–]ajohns1288 4 points5 points ago

Exactly, we fucking invented the car.

[–]RelativeTruth 8 points9 points ago

NKY dweller here, but learned to drive in Indiana. I have a firm belief in the following:

KY Drivers: Slow drivers; usually too cautious, well rounded.

Ohio Drivers: Relatively fast drivers, doesn't understand basic driving concepts, the "wtf-are-you-doing" driver.

Indiana Driver: Fast as fuck drivers unless you are 40+, 1/2 and 1/2 on how well they drive( Opposite ends of spectrum: Either amazing car control OR they have ZERO idea where their car is or how to drive it).

[–]_Woodrow_ 1 point2 points ago

West PA reporting in- Ohio drivers are shit

[–]ShowMeUrrGenitals 3 points4 points ago

West Virginian here, can confirm ALL Ohio drivers up here are just as terrible.

[–]Flame5135 6 points7 points ago

Northern Kentuckian here. Only 10 minutes south of Cincinnati, not a single flake of snow was found.

[–]sith_mama 3 points4 points ago

I was working downtown yesterday, I watched the white out go over over the Rhine from my office, but it didn't come past central parkway. It was seriously the whitest I've ever seen it get. And then it was gone.

[–]moparornocar 9 points10 points ago

Yup it was a snow squall.

[–]Cifra00 3 points4 points ago

When was this? I can't find anything citing a microburst in Cincinnati

[–]sith_mama 6 points7 points ago

Yesterday at around 11am.

[–]brandonsurge 5 points6 points ago

It's ridiculous, because we all know, as drivers, when your visibility becomes that bad, you pull over and wait for your ability to see to return. Not even rocket surgery.

[–]d_block 7 points8 points ago

Maybe that was how it happened. Someone pulled over where they thought was the side of the road, and it started a chain reaction because nobody could see until it was too late.

[–]lolzebraz 5 points6 points ago

Lol I'm from Ohio. I don't need to see where i'm driving.

[–]IAmHereNow16 3 points4 points ago

It came out of nowhere as well. I was driving while this happened, albeit a different stretch of highway. Skies were overcast, didn't look any different than a cold, cloudy winter day.

[–]Dretzel 19 points20 points ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OMPc1YQJKs

apparently it got icy and visibility was gone for a few minutes.... then this

[–]Kingfisher83 8 points9 points ago

All that's missing from this is some zombies.

[–]jhc1415 6 points7 points ago

87 car pile up and only one death? That actually sounds like those people were very lucky. As bad as that sounds, damage to the cars will be covered by insurance. At least almost everyone was able to come out alive.

[–]slynnc 2 points3 points ago

And the death was from the person getting out of the car, IIRC. There were also 2 other large pileups in Ohio the same day. It was insane weather.

[–]chamas_boy 40 points41 points ago

I think flurry is a bit of a downplay, It was like thick fog but in snowflake form.

[–]rasputiny 13 points14 points ago

Driving through Ohio yesterday I was almost was involved in a similar pileup. Visibility was one car length and traction was non existent. Touching the breaks meant sliding endlessly. We slowed down to about 20-25 1. because we couldn't see, 2. because accelerating meant sliding.

Other vehicles didn't seem so concerned. Two cars almost rear-ended us because they thought they should still be going 50 in the slow lane without being able to see or control their vehicles well. The first one flew into the median sideways and somehow righted the car and just kept flying along. I thought it was a miracle he didn't go off down the embankment They were about one foot from clipping our rear end. The guy behind him fortunately had more time and just flew by on the median.

The entire drive was spots of sun and clear roads and spots of nearly complete whiteout with terrible roads.

[–]lespaul45 31 points32 points ago

Only 1 person died. She was 12 and got out of the car then was killed when a car hit a metal cable causing it to snap and hitting the girl

[–]The_Poop_Monster 17 points18 points ago

That's the worst luck.

[–]redcashray 15 points16 points ago

It's ok. They were shooting the new Final Destination movie.

[–]Omlij 5 points6 points ago

[–]Masarap 2 points3 points ago

[–]Kmaster224 22 points23 points ago

I live in Cincinnati... This was horrible

[–]ShamelessPete 10 points11 points ago

CAR-PILE ON JERRY!

[–]kxvinskxxp 17 points18 points ago

This was about 3 miles from my house. It was pretty surreal driving past it.

[–]Cbear1748 5 points6 points ago

Where was this exactly?

[–]SierraNevadaPlease 5 points6 points ago

On the I-275 loop around Cincinnati.

[–]mattsprofile 4 points5 points ago

Specifically, the northern portion. I think north west

[–]rounding_error 1 point2 points ago

It was between the Ohio 63 and Ohio 122 exits on I-75, a dozen or so miles north of 275 actually.

[–]MrStevenRichter 8 points9 points ago

It's even worse if you sing about Cincinnati during a snow storm. You end up in Toyland.

[–]guindon30 7 points8 points ago

This post implies that Ohioans do not know how to drive in the snow. I disagree.

[–]jmat83 60 points61 points ago

Granted, there are some pretty terrible drivers in Cincinnati, however, this is just a downright disrespectful headline.

a) A 12 year old girl died in a freak accident related to this pile-up when a guard rail cable snapped under the load of all the wreckage pressed up against it and slashed her in the throat.

b) The conditions were legitimately far out of the ordinary and came on too quickly for people to have avoided it. Neither the local nor the national weather media predicted what happened, which was nearly instantaneous white-out conditions with extremely heavy, blinding snow coming down on slightly above freezing asphalt, which melted as it hit the roadway. With the sudden ~20 (F) degree dip in temperature accompanying the front that was dumping all this snow, black ice conditions formed on highways nearly instantly. As I've granted before, there are some stupid drivers in Cincinnati, but even good driving skills would not have prepared anybody for this freak white-out / instant roadway icing storm.

And c) Seriously... A 12 year old girl lost her life. Have some respect before you post a flippant headline like this. I'm sure a lot of injured people and their families, to say nothing of the family and friends of the dead 12 year old girl, have had their lives turned upside down by this. Cracking wise and pretending you could have handled the situation better is just awful.

Edit: I failed to mention that the girl's parents watched, powerless, as their 12 year old daughter's life was ended by a steel guard-rail cable.

[–]RxCaffeine 11 points12 points ago

The 12 year old was my neighbor. I think she was being driven by a babysitter at the time.

It's incredibly sad.

[–]pisspants 6 points7 points ago

This happened right by my old high school. The weather was clear in that pic but minutes before there was a blizzard-like snowstorm

[–]afondul 4 points5 points ago

as someone who works at an insurance company, I feel for who ever is going to handle that claim. Ouch.

[–]TheZestiestOfManTits 5 points6 points ago

"Flurry" is an adorable name for something that causes so much destruction.

[–]foobarr 5 points6 points ago

Damn. I read "This is what happens when it furries", clicked the pic, and then I was like "awwww, shit."

[–]shawntothesturm 5 points6 points ago

Remember that a little girl died in this

[–]marmz111 4 points5 points ago

Whats the definition of a flurry (Australian here)

[–]CarlAzuz 9 points10 points ago

A flurry is a light snowing. What caused this was not a flurry. It was a full-on whiteout of snow that only lasted ~20 minutes but there was zero visibility and the roads got slippery real quick. What's strange is that I actually live in Cincinnati and I only saw a brief flurry of snow and nothing that even stuck to the ground.

[–]downtown_vancouver 5 points6 points ago

"Snow flurries" are like "light rain" -- not really all that much in substance, but there nonetheless.

However, I think in this case it was more of a whiteout (enough snow in the air that visibility is zero).

[–]marmz111 3 points4 points ago

thanks :)

[–]LAfreak 10 points11 points ago

Looks like the highway in walking dead.

[–]doctorvapor 24 points25 points ago

Yikes, who called that play, Andy Dalton?

[–]C-4 20 points21 points ago

As a Bengals fan, fuck you.

[–]Sage2050 2 points3 points ago

Looks like a scene out if The Blues Brothers

[–]drwbry 4 points5 points ago

As a new Cincinnati resident coming from Michigan, I can confirm this. It snowed for less than an hour and this happened.

[–]gladwinBU 4 points5 points ago

What does it mean to 'flurry' in the USA?

To me it means to suddenly have a brief period of a lot of activity, or it is a type of food you buy from mcdonalds

[–]thatalbatross 2 points3 points ago

You are correct on both definitions. Apply your first definition to snow. The McDonalds snack is ice cream named after that type of snow. You'll often find cold desserts named after snow - Flurry, Blizzard, Slushie, etc.

[–]atkinsak 4 points5 points ago

As a born and raised Cincinnatian, I will admit Ohio drivers are awful when it comes to weather and highway traffic, but to give these people involved some credit, there was a sudden white out, making the roads slick and no visibility. Plus it was a semi that spun out first causing a pile up behind it which just kept getting worse due to no traction and no visibility. If you think about it, if you have a pile up of multiple commercial semi trucks, there was obviously more of an issue than bad ohio driving considering they are drivers for a living and are much heavier than the passenger cars. Plus there were 2 of these mass pile-ups around Cincinnati. One of them causing the death of a 12 year old and leaving several others in critical condition

[–]HickSmith 6 points7 points ago

The helicopter that took this picture was directly over my house. The 12 year old child that died was taught by my wife in preschool. We both just barely beat this accident by seconds. Within a span of 10 minutes it went from sunny, to white out with sheets of ice on the ground, and back to sunny.

As someone who drives that stretch of highway every day, I can say that this was a fluke. Drivers there are usually very aware, and it's rare to have any traffic issues. Let alone this.

[–]snypr13 4 points5 points ago

Not sure when you travel on 275, but there are always totally clueless drivers everywhere and always traffic, not just on 275 but the greater Cincinnati area in general.

[–]slynnc 1 point2 points ago

there are always totally clueless drivers everywhere

This is true for every state/city/town/country.

[–]LBeau 3 points4 points ago

We had over a 100 car pile up on hwy 99 in central California in 2006 or 2007 cause of fog. Shits crazy.

[–]gordymills 5 points6 points ago

I've seen the fog in California around the Bay Area, and also in Florida... Imagine that kind of fog, where you can hardly see the brake lights of the car 25 feet in front of you... But you also can't see the road under or around you, so you don't know if you're still on it or not. And it's super slick, so your brakes and steering aren't as effective. It was terrifying. You either slow down, and risk someone slamming into you from behind, or you try to maintain speed, and risk slamming into someone else. You try to pull over, but can't tell where the road stops and the shoulder starts. From someone that drove through it, I'm really surprised there weren't more incidents and more cars involved.

[–]Ryugi 0 points1 point ago

I read about that, didn't a ridiculous amount of people die from it?

I don't remember, I was like 16 when that happened.

[–]KahlanRahl 3 points4 points ago

Three of these happened up here near Cleveland too. It went from perfectly clear to 99% white out in a matter of seconds. Gust of wind hit a truck, it swerved and jack-knifed noone behind the truck saw it until it was game over. Saw all that shit in my rear view mirror and almost crapped myself.

There isn't always someone to blame.

[–]rhartsig 3 points4 points ago

The girl goes to my school, our community is in mourning, it's some sad stuff... And flurries was an understatement sir

[–]infincedes 3 points4 points ago

I was driving back from Cincinnati to Indy when this hit. I was around castleton, IN on i-70 going west. It was the craziest random snow storm that I have ever been in. One minute, I was just cruising at 77 mph, blue skies, 2 miles later and I'm doing 30 mph, and can only see 2 dotted lines ahead of where I'm at. I could hardly see the lines on the roads due to the snow. I had no one around, and my biggest fear was someone was stopped or something happened up ahead, because I wouldn't be able to stop in time as soon as it appeared a few feet ahead of me. I couldn't go any slower due to the fear of someone going too fast behind me and not being able to see me until it was too late as well. All you could do was drive and hope nothing was ahead, absolute 0 visibility. About 10 minutes later it was gone. Clear blue skies, no snow on the roads.

[–]AJohansson94 5 points6 points ago

I thought about the Left 4 Dead map..

[–]rockjones 2 points3 points ago

Shiiiiiit. This ain't Voltron!

[–]TheSkiFreeYeti 2 points3 points ago

Even though this is horrible, and I hope everyone made it out alive, I would be pissed if I was the one behind all that stuck.

[–]IAmHereNow16 4 points5 points ago

They didn't all make it out alive btw.

[–]HickSmith 4 points5 points ago

The 12 year old child who died, did so when a barrier cable snapped and flew into her while she was standing on the side of the road waiting for help.

They shut down the highway in both directions for hours. So, yea, traffic sucked.

[–]Letterbocks 6 points7 points ago

That's some final destination shit right there.

[–]elmarisol 2 points3 points ago

I got caught in that traffic. I had no idea how terrible the accident was.

[–]jspecial1979 2 points3 points ago

Those things have got to be insurance nightmares.

[–]gghggg 3 points4 points ago

I lost my sister to a crash like this. My condolences goes out to all the families/loved ones who lost someone dear to them.

[–]Abomm 2 points3 points ago

of all the horrible and gruesome pictures i have seen on this subreddit this one actually made me say, "What the FUCK?"

[–]Ersh777 4 points5 points ago

This happens at the first sight of a snow flurry in Atlanta. I hate Atlanta drivers.

[–]Recke89 1 point2 points ago

Are you sure they weren't filming for The Blues Brothers?

[–]TurnoverPie 3 points4 points ago

I have a feeling American drivers from anywhere other than the north-east would do fare terribly in Canada. Over here in Quebec we get a snow storm with whiteouts and warnings saying to stay off the road and the general reaction is, "Well shit, I need to be somewhere today, I'll leave a bit earlier and put a shovel in the car in case."

Funny southerners

[–]slynnc 8 points9 points ago

Problems is there wasn't warnings or forecasts. It was out of nowhere and hit within a minute or two. Driving in snow is one thing, driving in a complete surprise white-out is another.

[–]Abovethecanopy 2 points3 points ago

Not sure what that has to do with wearing an animal costume but ok.

[–]OrangeAdventure 1 point2 points ago

I go to college in Price Hill, this was all of 10 minutes away from us. Horrible.

[–]Ehrgs 1 point2 points ago

It was fucking crazy, shit loads of snow falling and high winds. I drove through that in columbus and you could barely see 10ft in front of your car. That said people still drove like idiots so I can see how this happens.

[–]EmpireKhonsu 1 point2 points ago

I was late to work cause of this. This is. op.

[–]Ornias 1 point2 points ago

I don't remember the walking dead having those trucks.

[–]Whoops_Shot_Marvin 1 point2 points ago

Barely missed this on the way bak from class

[–]Fooshbeard 1 point2 points ago

Damn those flurry conventions

[–]orionsshoe 1 point2 points ago

Do you get the day off work?

[–]ilovemysneakers 1 point2 points ago

I think you mean,,,"When it rains in LA"

[–]eggsgrainey 1 point2 points ago

this is what happens when you find a stranger in the alps

[–]0ffz 1 point2 points ago

When I first saw the pic i thought it was the Dark Carnival map from l4d2..

[–]ElderBowlsV 1 point2 points ago

i remember that level in Left 4 Dead

[–]ReDocter17 1 point2 points ago

You know, whenever I heard about pile-ups, I always thought of the phrase as just something people use to refer to accidents pertaining to more than 3 cars. Not actually a pile-up. I guess I was wrong.

[–]TuPacMan 0 points1 point ago

That's it. I am banning all weather because of the fatalities related to it.

[–]VonVikernes 1 point2 points ago

I was supposed to be driving down to Cincinnati for a family reunion, I'm glad that I changed my mind.

[–]nato0519 1 point2 points ago

Take an upvote. Being from New Jersey I was in Cleveland for a Raiders game. The I ky car accident I've ever been in was with an inch of snow on the ground in Cuyahoga Falls. Best part was the dude who hit me was named James Bond.

[–]SirSuppa 1 point2 points ago

Not really WTF, more like "Well, shit.".

[–]smugpugmug 1 point2 points ago

This is a video with the sound from the scene yesterday (goes to FB). It was pretty terrible.

[–]socialbeing 1 point2 points ago

I read that as "furries" and was really intrigued.

Was disappointed. Not out of a love for furries, but out of a love for WTF.

[–]pumpkinkarver115 1 point2 points ago

Never thought id see Middletown on reddit...awesome.

[–]royalblue420 0 points1 point ago

That is what would happen if Los Angeles area had flurries, however. Goddamn bastards would turn the place into bumper cars. Present company excluded, I'm sure.

[–]Jet_pilot_roo 0 points1 point ago

Yea it was white out not flurries. Also it was so cold the snow froze to the ground and made a sheet of ice.

[–]feedingmydreams 0 points1 point ago

Cincinnati averages 22 inches of snow a winter.

[–]batdorf 0 points1 point ago

ohio parking problems...

[–]-Fighters 0 points1 point ago

That is what would happen when my mom asked me to clean my room as a kid and I half-assed the job.

[–]BugChaser4Life 0 points1 point ago

I'd like to make a vending machine that sells vending machines. It'd have to be real fuckin' big!

RIP Mitch.

[–]davabran 0 points1 point ago

I got caught in some of the bad snow this morning around 6am going to work. The snow came fast. Visibility was extremely bad The "dry" snow combined with the wind blurred up front visibility low and the sides of the roads with a smooth layer across the lanes that made it extremely hard to know where you were on the road. all with asshole truck drivers barreling down the road.

[–]CupcakesAreTasty 0 points1 point ago

As a Masshole who is used to driving in shitty winter conditions, even I have to say, holy shit. That's messed up.

[–]Frostacular 0 points1 point ago

Looks like the start of the carnival level on L4D2

[–]overdew 0 points1 point ago

it appears that death will be coming for quite a few redditors that narrowly escaped this pile up.

[–]mrsecretsanta 0 points1 point ago

Looks like my old hot wheel cars..

[–]Karmaswimmer26 0 points1 point ago

i was on that high-way a half hour before that happened 0_0

[–]Jeremiah7272 1 point2 points ago

[–]Tbogardus -1 points0 points ago

Women drivers.

[–]AriseChicken_Arise 1 point2 points ago

I thought Cincinatti was used to snow??

[–]MrWhag 0 points1 point ago

ohhhhhhio

[–]btchsbecrzy 0 points1 point ago

Come up to canada. Been getting lots of snow here on the west coast this year. We will teach winter driving skills in exchange for some tim hortons. (At lesst I would)

[–]andyhammdusky 0 points1 point ago

As a resident, this can only be explained as Cincinnati logic.

[–]zacshipley 0 points1 point ago

"Use of excessive force in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved. "

[–]turbodude69 1 point2 points ago

wait, i thought cincinnati got a lot of snow? i'm confused.

[–]awwshiiit994 0 points1 point ago

it looks like something i watched in driver's ed except no Goofy

[–]sabbic1 0 points1 point ago

Goes to show, cars are to dangerous for regular people to own. Ban cars now!

[–]Chocolatebear95 0 points1 point ago

Reminded me of The Walking Dead

[–]Triptolemu5 1 point2 points ago

To all the idiots talking about how they're so much smarter on an interstate in a few flurries, imagine this except you can't see more than 10 feet in front of you, and 1/2 mile previously the sun was shining with dry pavement.

[–]supraspinatus 0 points1 point ago

Ah shit. I'll bet a lot of folks got hurt in that one. Damn.

[–]snwbrd_fool 0 points1 point ago

Coming from WI this baffles me.

[–]infestblair 0 points1 point ago

Vehicle Intercourse in its natural environment.... a rare occurrence.

[–]bobbyham 0 points1 point ago

Why does this remind me of the Walking Dead

[–]Kracus 0 points1 point ago

In whiteout conditions traffic is scary as fuck. If you slow down, you risk getting rear ended, if you pull over, others will follow you because they can't see the road, just lights in front of them. If you don't slow down, you'll rear end someone who did.

My advice is get off the highway on the next exit and wait until it passes. Preferably if possible, take the first exit BEFORE it get's too nasty.

[–]kritical_w1n 0 points1 point ago

I want a mcflurry after reading the title

[–]jetkor 0 points1 point ago

woulda sworn that was Texas after a foggy morning

[–]Jeffro7 -1 points0 points ago

I feel compelled to be a fucktard too and say I live in Cincinnati.

[–]redditagainstbrowns -1 points0 points ago

noobs

[–]Swissmonkey 0 points1 point ago

Looks like that episode of the walking dead

[–]GuyOnZeCouch 1 point2 points ago

I'm from Cincinnati, and I-75 has a reputation for being a clusterfuck... always... let alone when you can't see a hand in front of your face (or a douche in a jacked F-350 barreling toward your safe-drivin' ass).

[–]Junior5150 0 points1 point ago

Live in Middletown right where the one on 75 happened...crazy stuff, especially having two like this so close to eachother.

[–]HayWagon -1 points0 points ago

Canadian here (Alberta). You all don't even know what you're talking aboot when it comes to winter driving.

[–]stratosupra 1 point2 points ago

I was on that highway not long before that happened, it wad hell. I couldn't see anything more than 15 feet in front of me.

[–]judaspriest913 0 points1 point ago

This happened about five minutes away from my house and I've never seen anything like it.

[–]huey9k 0 points1 point ago

Looks like they're filming the next "Blues Brothers" sequel...

[–]graepphone 0 points1 point ago

Does any other country have these kinds of pile ups?

[–]Screenager88 0 points1 point ago

Dat traffic

[–]48for8 1 point2 points ago

Breaks OP

[–]AaronEngstrom 1 point2 points ago

Yay! My city is relevant!
