The canary Islands are missing, a serious obmission, since apparently half on Norway spends their winter there.

Antartica is missing

[–]CRedi 31 points32 points ago

Yeah... it should be written up as "ours"

[–]MarwinJaeckel 1 point2 points ago

that's what I thought :P

Considering it's the world from the perspective of us narcissistic Norwegians, I'm surprised you were so generous towards America.

[–]Manlyarmpits 5 points6 points ago

A lot of them are family, they have provided us with a lot of delicious food (although we mainly eat kebab now) and most of our pop-culture (TV, music, porn, websites, computers, phones, etc) is American.

[–]JustDandy 1 point2 points ago

Well, to say they've provided us with food is a bit of a misplacement of credit. It's a melting-pot of cultures, being the first super power in the world on the technological forefront, especially in a country of such a large scale, it's no surprise their culture quickly became dominant in the rest of the world through devices like television or radio. To say phones, websites and computers are a part of their "pop-culture" also confuses me a bit. Not only because I don't see how these things qualify under the aforementioned category, but because they are hugely international-

[–]Manlyarmpits 2 points3 points ago

Pardon for placing them under the pop-culture category. Let's put them in a fourth category named "technology". Indeed they are a melting-pot of cultures, and during the 1900s it spread to Norway. Pop-culture spread, and even people in Europe thought America was the greatest country in the world. They wanted American <everything>. And eating typical American food, like hamburgers, meant cool. Although it was originally a German food.

Both Apple and Windows are American companies. Most of the games we play are American. Most of the Internet we visit is American or also have American users.

I am not giving America credit for these things, but America as "the first super power in the world on the technological forefront", they developed and spread these things to us. And we picked up what had become American culture (the parts we saw).

Minnesota checking in, thanks for the shoutout.

[–]anoraq 5 points6 points ago

Hi Minnesota! Coming from Norway to see you this summer. Where to see american football in st Paul?

[–]Windir19 3 points4 points ago

[–]deten 4 points5 points ago

Google "Norwegian Butter Crisis 2011-2012"

It was a thing, for one dark, tasteless, year

[–]aenimayoshii 0 points1 point ago

I...have no words :(! Ha, I found in wikipedia: "For Norwegians, butter forms a staple part of the Christmas diet,[5] and is particularly popular as part of a low-carbohydrate, fat-rich diet." Honestly, the nonexisting butter was one reason for me to abandon the low carb diet during my stay (high prices for meat / cheese and veggies were also quite persuading points to cheat for a while. And your fake Oreos which taste even better than Oreos!! Oooh and the panini toast grill we had in our house... nom, totally worth it :D)

[–]Toorstain 0 points1 point ago

It was only like a few months...

[–]l00rker 4 points5 points ago

you forgot to mention over Canada "source of Canada goose jackets". I have the feeling everyone (but me) wears them this winter...

[–]Vikingrage[S] 2 points3 points ago

Everyone under 20, it's an epidemic alright!

[–]Hitno 8 points9 points ago

[–]ghostofgarborg 13 points14 points ago

You have our genes already, what more do you want from us!

[–]aenimayoshii 1 point2 points ago

Switzerland? Come on, you can't deny! Switzerland and norway they are connected in so many ways :'(

[–]Windir19 2 points3 points ago

Wait... How?

[–]aenimayoshii 1 point2 points ago

we are all rich (right?) and live in a wonderful country full of awesome landscape! But some facts: http://i.imgur.com/fjd3s.jpg and both countries are not in the EU.

[–]Windir19 1 point2 points ago

Unfortunately I am American but have lineage from Norway and Switzerland. Actually it was my paternal-grandmother's father that was Swiss and mother Norwegian so I guess that is one connection. The EU argument is a good one. I guess you both like cheese, but who doesn't then?

[–]Vikingrage[S] 1 point2 points ago

Not my drawing but Switzerland is awesome alright, been there visiting the mountains. You're just a bit more language confused than we are though.

[–]aenimayoshii 1 point2 points ago

ha, you have a good point there. I can't even understand all of the different languages and dialects. It's quite funny when you have the actual seize of the country in mind. I like the mountains but they are nothing compared to your fjords <3

[–]NimeAlot 2 points3 points ago

What, where?

Edit: You the guys with the pocketknives?

[–]aenimayoshii 0 points1 point ago

yes...yes...and the awesome chocolate!
