That is a rude thing to post.

[–]atheistmissionary 16 points17 points ago

Seriously, this isn't the first time I've seen this type of attitude from Canadians, especially the younger ones. I've been there a few times and all the middle aged, older citizens seemed very nice, but the younger ones acted like jerks the minute they find out you're American. My brother made friends with two siblings and couldn't tell them where he was from after they complained about hating Americans for a half hour.

All these "nice Canadian" stereotypes are bullshit. They're rude and so are we. And so are the French..the English.. etc etc.

[–]girlwhodidyourhair 1 point2 points ago

I live in a touristy area for Ontario and Canadians have been nothing less than smug and rude every time I've come into contact with them.

[–]luisbv23 7 points8 points ago

Sorry

[–]yoshimane 0 points1 point ago

There's the Canada we know and love

[–]board_at_workk 52 points53 points ago

No Canadian love for "Minnesota Nice".

[–]TheRedArrow 45 points46 points ago

Ah Minnesota. The Canada of America.

[–]board_at_workk 16 points17 points ago

Currently -13 F, -25 with windchill.

[–]Vithar 9 points10 points ago

Must be nice down there in the southern part of the state, we are cruising at a cool -22, -42 up here near the Canada.

[–]board_at_workk 4 points5 points ago

Oops, outdated info, that was from this afternoon. Duluth actually! Are ya from I falls?

[–]Vithar 0 points1 point ago

Something like that.

[–]kidl33t 3 points4 points ago

I love the parts of America that get windchill. We <3 you.

[–]41571 1 point2 points ago

I was out in shorts. It feels nice.

[–]BasketofTits 5 points6 points ago

Ah Canada. The Canada of the Americas.

[–]Oscar_Wilde_Ride 6 points7 points ago

Hey fellow Minnesotans-- do you say, "eh?" at the end of a semi-rhetorical question (as in, after you do a good job, "Yeah, that'll look pretty good, eh?)? Also, were you unable to hear the joke in the "bagel" scene of Community? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDQyUqsCLXA

[–]41571 1 point2 points ago

Sometimes, but it sounds more like Eiy, as in the letter A.

[–]Seanjohn40621 12 points13 points ago

What about "Southern Hospitality"? Even the Brits don't like us, and we have tea!

[–]mattysads 15 points16 points ago

Sweet tea isn't tea.

It's closer to Coca Cola

[–]Kelzer66 1 point2 points ago

More like cavity water.

[–]Newnew2 12 points13 points ago

Listen, you don't know what you're saying so I won't hold it against you. Please don't say anything against our tea. It would not makes us feel welcoming if you insulted our tea. We will tie you to a log. We will pour tar on you. We will cover you in feathers. No one wants that. So just enjoy the orgasm in your mouth that is our sweet tea.

[–]mattysads 2 points3 points ago

I didn't say sweet tea wasn't good!

[–]Newnew2 4 points5 points ago

Good. Good. I'll pour ya a glass.

[–]mattysads 3 points4 points ago

Thank ya kindly

[–]Newnew2 5 points6 points ago

hat tip

[–]lordofpurple -1 points0 points ago

Even though it tastes like soda without any of the flavor or carbonation.

[–]bprice57 2 points3 points ago

yea. i always thought that we were related anyways, like cousins or something

[–]martja10 -1 points0 points ago

Minnesota Nice does not apply in the Twin Cities where most of Minnesota's population resides and what I have encountered seems superficial and insincere. Wisconsin deserves to be recognized as nice more than Minnesota. Oh yeah, and our beer, sausages, and maple syrup are better.

[–]Jimmertech 379 points380 points ago

Canadian here. I was just having a conversation the other day about this very idea and I, in fact, think that Americans are some of the nicest, most generous people I've ever met. Furthermore, living in a big Canadian city, I'd say more than three quarters of the people here are rude pricks. You should really change this to "How I view Americans". Giving us Canucks a bad name because you're a loser. Shame on you.

[–]Riggzz 137 points138 points ago

Woah, someone doesn't hate me because of where I was born. This is kind of cool.

[–]tacz00 119 points120 points ago

That's the nicest thing I've read about America on the internet in years. Thank you, Canada.

[–]mattysads 24 points25 points ago

Sorry

[–]Tb5 37 points38 points ago

as a fellow canadian, i agree. i dislike american foreign politics and how parts of the government are run. but i think the majority of american people are nice as hell. oh ya and i'm a brown guy... with a beard.

[–]hunt1516 31 points32 points ago

we hate our politics as well, so freakin much but we just don't know how to fix it

[–]jeannieb 8 points9 points ago

I had that same thought today. I'm American.

[–]OuttaMyElement 16 points17 points ago

I'm glad I read this. Looking through some of the comments/posts recently, I was getting all sad thinking "but... but... I thought we were friends!"

[–]SleepsontheGround 219 points220 points ago

That has got to be the longest misspelling of the word "sorry" I have ever seen.

[–]zworkaccount 8 points9 points ago

As an American who has talked to people from many different states and Alberta and Ontario over the phone for a living for the past 4 years, I can confirm that there are a lot of rude people in both countries.

[–]Donaldus 6 points7 points ago

Working a low paying job at a tourist attraction with a lot of foreign tourists, I was shocked to hear that Americans are actually really nice to most people. I was certain that the stereotype of "arrogant cowboy with lots of swearing and insults" wasn't just an internet thing. We apparently also have a reputation for being "fake" because we're so nice at first (heard this one second hand from a French couple, via a french speaking coworker.)

[–]destructivemarmoset 17 points18 points ago

Yeah, I'm not saying Americans are nicer but the only time I have ever been openly insulted by a stranger I was walking down the street while on vacation in Canada.

[–]Name_Not_Available 10 points11 points ago

Probably because your toque was on backwards while yah were eating poutine on your chesterfield yah hoser.

[–]hi_nick 2 points3 points ago

Agreed. Living in a major urban city is like living in any major urban city in the world - most people are cold and rude. If you go to the suburbs people are very nice and have a sense of community still. I live in Toronto, but I've heard more excuse me's and courtesies when I went to Boston.

[–]malelion123 -1 points0 points ago

"I live in Toronto..." Well there's your problem! :P jk man, even if Edmonton's better ;)

[–]goofandaspoof 10 points11 points ago

I live in Japan and all the American expats here are super polite and friendly. I feel like they must have to be that way in order to escape their stereotype.

[–]vinny962 2 points3 points ago

Or we're all mostly polite people

[–]LaserOfBacon 2 points3 points ago

You are a good person. Thank you.

[–]Probaphet 3 points4 points ago

I was walking by the Picasso in downtown Chicago and saw some tourists this weekend. I was like "Want me to take a picture of you in front of it" and they were like "Sure" Then i took a few pics. I asked them where they were from. They were like "Calgary". I said, "Only someone from up north would visit Chicago this time of year. They said "oh yes, ha ha." I said, "Have a nice vacation" and went on my way. I felt like President Nixon reopening diplomatic relations with China.

[–]therapist23 2 points3 points ago

We will spare you Canadian.

[–]jordypants 3 points4 points ago

Despite being an American and sounding boastful, I would agree that Americans are very friendly in person, usually. On the internet, however, Americans tend to come off as brash and sometimes harsh (as it probably is for other nationalities). So, in a way, since the majority of our parlays unfold via the Internet, this depiction is mostly accurate.

[–]jonnyrobotnik 11 points12 points ago

The people who are in-your-face American on the internet are usually children or people who act like children.

[–]jordypants 4 points5 points ago

I agree, most Americans with good sense won't act a fool as often.

[–]Senor_Manos 3 points4 points ago

Are you from Vancouver? As someone who grew up right over the border, I can honestly say that some Vancouver-ites are the rudest people I have ever met. Lots are super awesome too though. Also, no offense but those people need to learn how to drive properly!

[–]NemesisFrank 1 point2 points ago

Thank you, we also think yall are pretty neat fella's up there to

-From Texas, with over emphasized accents.

[–]Loopbot75 1 point2 points ago

Awwwww we think you Canadians are pretty awesome too!!!!!

[–]razpotnik 1 point2 points ago

Agreed. I do not come across very many rude people when i go to the u.s. and im there a lot. One thing ive noticed about some canadians is that they'll go to the u.s., run into a rude person, then as far as they're concerned, all americans are rude, ignorant, and dumb. The biggest complaint i hear from people here is about americans "being stupid because they think we all live in igloos and eat seal fat, and theres always snow on the ground etc.". What they dont realize is that they do the same thing. No, every single american does not have a gun, they dont live off of fast food(some do though, nothing different here), everone does not say "y'all", or "huh", and no, everyone outside of any big city limits is not a redneck. One more thing most canadians dont realize is that the u.s. and canada have pretty well the same crime rate per capita, it just sounds like the u.s. is worse because its population is ten times bigger than canada's.

[–]skrrv 10 points11 points ago

What's in Michigan? Looks like it says something there.
Edit:Okay, guys, I got it on the first comment. No need to answer the same thing four times. Thank you for your enthusiasm.

[–]BigBoDangles 4 points5 points ago

says Detroit though its on the wrong side

[–]jonneyboy45 1 point2 points ago

it says Detroit and its not in the right spot, it made me laugh

[–]Team_Lift 1 point2 points ago

South Detroit.

[–]collinburris 17 points18 points ago

Alaska too?

[–]abipes13 18 points19 points ago

Whoever made this obviously doesn't realize that Minnesotans are practically Canadian.

[–]41571 2 points3 points ago

They totally forgot about Minnesota Nice, too.

[–]TheYankster 8 points9 points ago

this is not true, most Canadians I have talked to, have viewed us Alaskans as neighbors

[–]Thrashbone 4 points5 points ago

Last time I went to Canada it felt like I never left Alaska. The people seemed to be just as nice and polite.

[–]TheYankster 0 points1 point ago

and i do agree with Canadians, the lower 48 is rude (sorry eh)

[–]Thrashbone 0 points1 point ago

The people in Minnesota, Wisconsin seemed fine but I went to Oregon once for a week and everyone seemed really rude and came off very elitist.

[–]Emada89 8 points9 points ago

Hey you forgot Hawaii that's not very nice if you ask me

[–]RagingAnemone 1 point2 points ago

We're used to it. We don't even have an Olive Garden.

[–]mcrmarine 8 points9 points ago

Everyone of op's comments is in the negative karma threshold.

[–]Newnew2 3 points4 points ago

So much so that the bandwagon effect is making me want to down vote OP's comment.

[–]moralrisk 1 point2 points ago

reddit doesn't like rude people.

[–]TheVirginityThief 19 points20 points ago

7 Canadians were killed during the making of this picture. (Rude overdose)

[–]Batfart77 8 points9 points ago

I get Canadians at my hotel all the time and I had one French Canadian lose her shit one night we were not accepting coupons, she screamed at me, went outside and got her husband he screamed at me and in their furry it all turned French and I could no longer understand so I started laughing. They said they were going to write to the mayor about it, good times.

Edit- Im sure some may thing I am leaving things out but I swear I am not this person had a short fuse probably combined with what I am assuming was a rough day. Shit happens.

Edit 2 - In general the Canadians I have encountered have been perfect guests.

[–]mortalgods 0 points1 point ago

The french are an angry folk...

[–]AnorexicBuddha 6 points7 points ago

Says the person that's never been to the south or the midwest or the west. Going to New York doesn't make you an expert on American behavior.

[–]privatier 6 points7 points ago

Living in Minnesota near the Canadian border, I just want to say, I don't hate you. In fact, I'm going to saddle up my polar bear, bake a cake, and bring it over.

[–]B1Gpimpin 0 points1 point ago

where along the border?

[–]mjbfikus 2 points3 points ago

Stereotyping an entire country is a little rude, sorry. - Minnesota

[–]noloudnoisesplease 50 points51 points ago

I've found Americans to be some of the nicest people I've ever encountered. Kind of arrogant for Canadians to view them that way.

[–]TheRedArrow 23 points24 points ago

Nah, it's just OP. He's a dick.

[–]MisterFabulous 11 points12 points ago

I think OP is Scott.

[–]SmarticusRex 5 points6 points ago

Fucking Scott.

[–]ape_ck 4 points5 points ago

Why are you such a dick?!

[–]iamoldmilkjug 9 points10 points ago

[–]lBlackFishl 4 points5 points ago

I expect two more of these how people view other people maps, a post with a picture of all the new how people view other people map posts, saying how it's too much. Then maybe some posts about how people who complain about the viewing other people posts are as annoying as the posts themselves, maybe a confession bear about how they secretly like these posts, these posts will disappear for a while, and then in maybe a month or so the same thing happens again.

[–]Kobainsghost1 5 points6 points ago

And while I'm on The subject of Canada...Where the fuck do Canadians get the nerve to talk shit after giving us this and this

[–]tapatio_girl 1 point2 points ago

and this

[–]DeWitchDr 4 points5 points ago

You called me rude. You haven't even met me and you're calling me rude. Hi pot, I'm the kettle, you look weirdly familiar.

[–]ruminative 3 points4 points ago

As a Canadian Army wife (Yes.) I've lived all over the place. When I saw this picture, I was filling it in with spots in Canada that are also RUDE (Sorry.) Come visit the east coast, anywhere that touches the ocean, in July. Ask a stranger who looks bored for directions to your hotel, and they might just offer to show you. I've let people in rental cars follow me to hotels all over my hometown, it's just considered good manners. We naturally assume that people are good, but we still lock our doors in the city. We're genuinely nice, not stupid.

I've travelled all over the US, too, and I met some of the nicest people. I think, really, that there are "Kind Internet Strangers," All over the place, IRL.

[–]Kraugy 7 points8 points ago

As an American that does tech support. French Canadian is the worst customer.

[–]AudacityTN 17 points18 points ago

You are going to get so many downvotes from polite americans.

[–]battlekarrot 66 points67 points ago

As a polite american, this pisses me the fuck off. You good for nothing, maple syrup drinking, piece of bilingual, metric shit. Learn your place as north north Dakota.

[–]RainDancingChief 54 points55 points ago

"Metric shit"

Ha.

-The rest of the world

[–]pourspellur 6 points7 points ago

As an American I can think in both metric and what ever our stupid system is called and metric just makes life easier.

[–]uofmike 0 points1 point ago

The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it!

[–]sbetschi12 0 points1 point ago

Not England.

[–]pascontent 6 points7 points ago

North North Dakota hahahaha that's hilarious. Thank you.

[–]cojafoji 4 points5 points ago

I see that behind the Maple Curtain, the sordidly savage socialist People's Republic of Canadia is still leading in the propaganda war!

[–]TrackMasin 1 point2 points ago

As an American who just visit Mexico and somehow met the most Canadians I will probably ever see in my life.. I can truly say they are some cool people. The French Canadians on the other hand can go blow a big monkey dick. They were assholes and deserved our "fuck french canada" chants. Having other Canadians join us in the chants made it so much better.

[–]Dolentrean 2 points3 points ago

Okay, As an American who has been to Canada (Nova Scotia) I have to say, they were actually kinda dicks.

[–]sdphoto35 3 points4 points ago

Any country that has a law that which makes you write everything in English and French is going to be full of dicks.

[–]PickleChick 6 points7 points ago

Now I wouldn't say all Americans are rude, but some are I will admit. But then again, I know a lot of rude Canadians too. There's always going to be rude people no matter where you go, you can't get away from it

[–]thatkid95 7 points8 points ago

You know as an American, i would like to say your kind of being an ass hole. what you said is like saying all France wants to do is surrender and all Germany wants to do is invade France.

[–]peifferu 3 points4 points ago

cut Iowans a little slack...

[–]Higs 1 point2 points ago

Did you make this with MS paint?

[–]ODST1556 1 point2 points ago

Im florida and what is this?

[–]Grubnar 0 points1 point ago

You are florida? What? The entire state?

[–]Servizio 1 point2 points ago

Shouldn't Quebec be orange...?

[–]Azzwagon 2 points3 points ago

If that smudge in MI says "Detroit", it's totally in the wrong spot.

[–]timmz 1 point2 points ago

Can't we all just get along? I've never had a problem with our neighbours to the south.

[–]Crownowa 1 point2 points ago

I'd say that the general view I have of the US as a whole is that it seems more ignorant than Canada, but then again, Canada seems more ignorant than Europe. When the general population, including the uneducated, have access to social media, they tend to be quite vocal in their ignorance and close-mindedness.

[–]fine_peass 3 points4 points ago

eeeh some Canadians are just the same, I've met some that are more cocky than New Yorkers.

I have a ton of family living in Vancouver and Edmonton. Cousin came down to visit with a friend from Edmonton. He was sure Canada and Edmonton was the greatest places in the world, and took every moment he had to tell me.

We were talking about work, he's a consultant, so he travels a lot. So I asked him where he travels to most for his job. He said all over the world. Then I said how often do you come to the states? "Oh I try to avoid the states, no body wants to come here, and neither do I."

That ended my hospitality with him, I preceded to ignore him.

[–]Mcnasby -1 points0 points ago

When I was 16 I went to Quebec and the people all but spit in my face for being American. With that said whenever I meet a Canadian tourist they are always the nicest people, sucks to think you secretly hate us.

[–]miklayn 0 points1 point ago

This one is wayyyy funnier than the opposite lol!

[–]Wetness_Protection -1 points0 points ago

What's that Canada? I can't hear you over this amazing Southern California weather.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

ITT: Canadians; "Americans are nice people!" Americans; "Canadians are all dicks"

[–]kinzua -1 points0 points ago

canada who the fuck cares about a useless country

[–]Uranus_Hz 5 points6 points ago

Hey, fuck you buddy!

[–]wazzel2u 4 points5 points ago

Seriously? You've never been to The South! Definitely the nicest people.

[–]sprizzle 11 points12 points ago

You mean the Midwest?

[–]Soup_Kitchen 3 points4 points ago

As a Southerner (or former Southerner) I can say they are the downright meanest people I've ever met. Not to your face of course. Passive aggressive all to hell. Unless they're saying Bless your heart. That actually means fuck you you're a stupid whore....bless your little heart.

[–]turnleftdale 4 points5 points ago

Nobody cares.

[–]efrainmontes 4 points5 points ago

Canadians are butt hurt.

[–]Prostock26 2 points3 points ago

looks like you like Grand Rapids, Michigan? I live here and cant see why Canadians would like this place

[–]khast 1 point2 points ago

Living in a border town....I can honestly say that the Canadians who view us as rude totally deserve every bit of rudeness they get. Sorry, but I know a lot of Canadians that can be real assholes to our retail employees, and act all surprised when one actually does snap back at them.

Don't get me started about the Chinese/Canadians (Richmond B.C.)...learn English (or French..I don't care..) I don't like to repeat myself over and over and over...just to look at your puzzled faces trying to figure out what I said. Followed by calling in your what looks to be a high school aged child that speaks English fluently to translate for you....yeah...you took the time and effort to immigrate to Canada...at least learn some even gradeschool basics of the language that the locals use for better communication.

[–]justsoldmysoul 1 point2 points ago

[–]lbofham1 0 points1 point ago

Everyone is rude from the perspective of a Canadian.

[–]Karabearrxoxo -1 points0 points ago

Canadians don't know about Hawaii.

[–]Monkeyfeng 0 points1 point ago

How Canadians view Mexico?

[–]cajunbander 0 points1 point ago

I'll have you know, we're very cordial to our Canadian brethren down here in South Louisiana. I mean, most of us were very rudely kicked out of Nova Scotia by the British!

[–]Wastesofa 1 point2 points ago

Where does Greenland think its going?

[–]BuddyFriendGuy 1 point2 points ago

We also know the name of most states. However, we'll probably get the names of most of the North-Eastern states mixed since they're all clumped together.

[–]LadyPancake 0 points1 point ago

Sorry you feel that way, hon. Round these parts we go by what's known as Southern hospitality. Why don't I tell y'all about it over some sweet tea and if'n y'all get a little hungry later, I can whip us up some fried chicken and black eyed peas. And for dessert, I just made this lovely sweet potato pie with the recipe I got from my neighbor Frances. Lovely woman, doesn't get out much now that her husband is gone, bless her heart.

[–]magicjumbuck 1 point2 points ago

AUSTRALIA IS AWESOME.

[–]Scorpulus 0 points1 point ago

I live in South Dakota. We are nice here.

[–]Wirespun45 1 point2 points ago

Canadians actually remember Alaska as well.

[–]PleatherArmchair 0 points1 point ago

American here who just got back from a vacation in Canada; Whistler specifically. I found the Canadians to be rude and condescending, maybe that was just that town though because I know not all Canadians are like that.

[–]2sweetlipsfordeath 0 points1 point ago

you can leave the orange over Dallas and Houston but the rest of Texas needs to be Blue. Were nice unless you piss us off... then we shoot you. XD

[–]cynicalbuttplug 0 points1 point ago

funny story, i went to buffalo to travel to texas from canada. Visited 4 citites (Buffalo, Austin, Chicago, and Irvine). Their weed was aight. But their most memorable thing was how polite every single motherfucking person was. People who work are actually nice, and not rude like the torontonians i live with

[–]Soup_Kitchen 0 points1 point ago

Is that really the way Greenland is situated? It seems so.... sideways.

[–]IMetACanadianOnce -1 points0 points ago

[–]Deacon_Murder 1 point2 points ago

I <3 Canada.

[–]hazelquarrier_couch 1 point2 points ago

I love you, Canada.

[–]jonnyrobotnik 1 point2 points ago

I live in New Hampshire. I'm always nice to the Frenchies (and the more covert "regular" Canadians) during the annual Canadian invasion. They're pretty cool.

The only people who complain that we're rude are southerners, who (fortunately not very often) come up, complain about things and be slow. Southern Hospitality seems wicked fake to me, but I guess if they don't get it they feel like you're being rude to them.

[–]ImObsessed1235 0 points1 point ago

Not all Americans are rude. It depends where you go

[–]POLITH 1 point2 points ago

No Canadian love for North Dakota? I used to live one mile away from the border at one time.

[–]nrgkart 1 point2 points ago

Canada is awesome, i hope to go there one day although i got a DUI so guess im headed to Mexico instead

[–]Kujo_A2 0 points1 point ago

In MI defense, we've been offering you a high five for 10,000 years and you've left us hanging.

That or we're trying to give Ontario a handjob

[–]DaymanMaster0fKarate -1 points0 points ago

I live on a city near the border between the USA and Canada, in Canada. And I'd have to say, there are PLENTY of really really fucking rude Canadians when it comes to things like driving/parking and shopping across the border.

[–]russdsntcare 1 point2 points ago

I can agree with this. I'm from New Jersey, so I'm all too familiar with rudeness.

[–]MyfriendscallmeSnake -1 points0 points ago

Granted, my time in America has been limited to Buffalo and California, but I've found Americans to be rather nice. Certainly nicer then many people here in Toronto.

That said, America scares the flying fuck out of me. Not the people, just the government and beliefs.

[–]spach15 1 point2 points ago

Surprised Canadian OP hasn't apologized for this yet!

[–]Philgravy -1 points0 points ago

[–]turtl3-tastic -1 points0 points ago

I'm sorry, but ya'll see us as an episode of "Golden Girls", where even the most rude old gal is charming. We all see you as an episode of "Trailer Park Boys", where only Bubbles and a (very) young Ellen Page are charming.
What a rude country you live in, America's Hat.

I talk to a lot of Americans from down south on the phone every day. Houston, Nashville, etc. Some like to chew there chips in my ear and be the typical stereotype. Most are very nice people that say sir a lot to me.
