I was in that.

[–]Brother_Farside 6 points7 points ago

I was out on the road most of the day. There were several times where white out conditions came up almost out of nowhere.

[–]wigg1es 2 points3 points ago

Me too. Drove from Toledo to Cleveland and then south. 75 mph on the turnpike when visibility drops to 20 feet gets really tense really fast.

it looks like they have mastered the art of winter driving, nothing to see here

[–]reediejr 3 points4 points ago

Cincinnatian here...had nothing to do with how we usually drive in the snow (we panic). Rather, there was a freak whiteout for a few minutes which cause two major pileups. My dad was out at the time and said visibility was almost zero. Really weird.

drive this way to work... I was so glad I was off today

[–]JustAMinuteAnHourAgo 4 points5 points ago

completely false. We get a lot of snow most winters in Ohio, and a large portion of the drivers have at least some snow driving experience. This was just an accident

1 of 3 big ones within the Columbus outer belt today..

the snow after x-mas was much worse, I don't know WTF was going on today..

[–]Manly-man 0 points1 point ago

In northern Ohio, yes. Here in the nasti nati, not so much.

[–]JustAMinuteAnHourAgo 0 points1 point ago

ah. I could be mistaken, I am indeed referring to northern Ohio, which in general gets blasted with lots of lake effect snow. I didn't know the rest of the state got a significantly less amount of snow. In any case there isn't enough snow in the picture to make things more than a little slick

It did snow today. Minimally, but it happened...which is part of the kicker.

[–]BrokenBelief 1 point2 points ago

I don't know. I moved from California to Ohio in October. The first "blizzard" that came through, I had to drive home from work, which was my first experience ever driving in the snow.

The "experienced" drivers were fucking scary. Saw a guy doing 25 in the fast lane with his lights off almost get destroyed by a semi that couldn't slow down.

damn

[–]b0unc37x 0 points1 point ago

heard about it on the radio didnt realize it was that bad

[–]dafisherman 0 points1 point ago

Only one of two large wrecks today in southern Ohio....

[–]IchBinLiebe[S] -1 points0 points ago

Yes. This is a pic of the 50-something car wreck. The video that is buried in the comments is the 86 car wreck.

[–]aimets 1 point2 points ago

I live right down the road from there! There was also one on I-275 today with over 70 cars...from what I hear a girl died in the crash :(

[–]IchBinLiebe[S] -1 points0 points ago

Yeah...it was a 12 year old girl. At the very beginning of the video I posted...you can see them doing CPR on her. (very left) The wreck you are talking about had 86 cars involved.

[–]ballsdeepthroat 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, Cincinnati got an inch in under an hour and then in stopped. When this wreck happened, the snow came on pretty quickly and turned a clear, high visibility day into a very low visibility day.

[–]Felix_WannamakerIII 0 points1 point ago

Its never about how much snow: its how fast. At my house we got about a half inch, but the sudden drop in visibility was astounding.

[–]magenta-meow227 0 points1 point ago

My cousins husband (firefighter) had to cut people out of these cars. pretty crazy.

[–]ilikebluepens -1 points0 points ago

And everyone in Ohio died.

[–]Alyxcox 0 points1 point ago

man this is on my way to school. SOO glad it was MLK day! but seriously, every time it flurries, ppl start to act like idiots right here. im not suprised this happened

[–]el_butt 0 points1 point ago

we don't need snow for that to end up happening

[–]boxen_of_doughnuts 1 point2 points ago

last time it snowed on my way home from indiana to pa, i saw 8 wrecks in cincy, including a nine car pileup, and 14 wrecks on 270 from 71 to 70. ohio is a total mindblower.

[–]yoyo71 0 points1 point ago

It was funny until i realized someone was most likely extremely hurt.

[–]kayperks 1 point2 points ago

God dammit, I try to stick up for my birth place and the next day I see this.

[–]bad_pattern 0 points1 point ago

this is why you have to keep your vehicles disciplined

give them any slack, and you're stuck in a car orgy for who knows how long

[–]noshowwilly 0 points1 point ago

wow ohio might actually be worse than vancouver, bc in the snow.

[–]prophetfxb 0 points1 point ago

From an ex-ohio resident, this looks like a typical scene on 75 outside cincinnati at around rush hour. Daily.

2 things from my experiences there:

  1. Ohio people freak out about any form of frozen weather.

  2. Ohio drivers are some of the most dangerous in the world.

[–]rimrimpimpim 0 points1 point ago

Columbus resident (grew up in Cincy) here. Ohio gets plenty of bad snow in the winter (we typically get the worst of all seasons). Columbus drivers are pretty panicky, but Cincy and Cleveland drivers know what they're doing. These pileups happened because of a sudden whiteout. Stuff like this is rare.

Also for those of you wanting to see a closer view... here's a video. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=603376086345229

[–]theotherduke 0 points1 point ago

let's hear it for tailgating!

[–]moeoriginal 0 points1 point ago

That's not even a dusting.

[–]TURDxFURGESON -4 points-3 points ago

As someone from Michigan, this does not surprise me. Worst drivers ever.

[–]wigg1es 1 point2 points ago

That's because you live near Toledo, and Toledo does in fact have the worst drivers on the planet.

[–]kgmoome 0 points1 point ago

Do they drive too slow?

[–]fatevilcat -5 points-4 points ago

wow they are really shitty drivers in ohio
