You know what, I always think it's awesome when I see someone chickenshitting their way down a crazy chute or through some dense glades - it means they're pushing their own boundaries and expanding their skill, it's great.

Conversely I think it's really disrespectful to go fast on beginner runs, because it freaks people out and those runs aren't intended for breaking land speed records.

100% agree, great comment. I love when kids push themselves on the harder trails. I personally am sideways most of the way down a double black diamond but I have to try it at some point.

There's only one way to get used to going down a harder trail, and that's to try going down it.

At my skill level, however... Double Black; not even once.

Yeah I was praying for a couple minutes there but man even though i snowplowed half way down it I felt so accomplished afterwards.

But now I have to either choose a different line, or try to carve on ice down a really steep run from the lack of snow that should still be there. Please try not to snowplow. Just be confident in yourself, and make at least 2 turns before slowing yourself down / stopping. When you can do that well without falling, go for 3 lines, etc and move your way up. It helps you learn to make a line, helps the snow stay on the trail for others to enjoy, and that first run when you make it all the way down without snowplowing at all will be SO worth it.

Yeah I got you man, I just do that on the harder runs but thank you for the advice....I'll try and work my way up to a full line down the hill

This. Few of the places I ride have black diamond slopes with green runoffs. I slow the F down when I'm done with the steep portion because I never know when that first timer is going to fall without explanation right where I'm headed. Better safe than sorry.

It really depends on skill level. Going down a run that steep before being able to turn both directions is a disservice to everyone. Not only are you a moving obstacle, but it'll take much longer for you to get the skills needed to throw a deep toe carve. Carving is pretty easy once you have the basics down, you'll have an easier time mastering riding at lower speed and then using those skills to shred the steep stuff.

In all fairness I was sitting at the bottom of the jump because I broke my collar bone

There is no way that figure is in the landing zone of that kicker

Last time I got to go snowboarding, my brother and I hadn't taken any classes but we had snowboarded before. So we caught the lift to the top and said, "there's only one way to get down now". By the end of the run, we had most of our coordination back but we spent the first few runs on ours assses or sideways.
