In case anyone is wondering, this is the infrared photography of David Keochkerian. Here's a link to some more of his work if anyone is interested.

[–]mokthraka 0 points1 point ago

you have to modify your camrea to be able to take infrared photos right?

[–]Bennyboy1337 0 points1 point ago

Yup, modern day DSLRs have a infrared filter built into them, so to take infrared photos you have to remove that filter, then add a filter the removes all other bandwidth of light on the sensor.

[–]mokthraka 0 points1 point ago

awh... maybe I'll do it when I get a newer camera someday.

could you do it with just a cheap point and shoot?

[–]onemantwohands 0 points1 point ago

actually he is not correct. You can use a IR filter on DSLRs BUT its like 15 stops down so the exposure time is really high.

Or you can mod a DSLR by taking away its internal filter and there is no need for another IR filter.

actually it's clearly photoshopped. you can see splotches of green missed when recoloring the trees. still looks pretty cool though!

[–]sourfunyuns 1 point2 points ago

I think you're right..

[–]shittyanalogies 58 points59 points ago

I don't think those are purple trees, this is just infrared photography.

This is the shotover river in new Zealand, near queenstown, if anyone is wondering. In November a type of yellow flowering bush called Scott's broom blooms.

[–]monkeywithamandolin 7 points8 points ago

this has been posted countless times and every single time it's been pointed out that this is infra-red and not natural. a beautiful picture but don't be misled.

[–]Lunchable 0 points1 point ago

It's totally natural. This is what this scene would look like through the eyes of a snake or a fish. (snakes and fish can see infrared)

[–]MegaG 16 points17 points ago

But can a snake or a fish see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

[–]OmniaMors 0 points1 point ago

context?

[–]DreadedClaymore 1 point2 points ago

Where is this?

[–]Kasey12OoO 0 points1 point ago

Just don't go for a weekend canoe ride with your friends there.

I love that texture pack! ...wait a second

Putting the old blue stream through the purple forest. Don't mind me, I'm just taking it for a spin.

[–]zatallis 0 points1 point ago

They missed a tree...

[–]BREADDERP 0 points1 point ago

If no one has said it... REPOST.

[–]Milfanie 0 points1 point ago

I want to live in that world.

[–]Higlac 0 points1 point ago

I really need to buy some IR film.

[–]Crazzymax 0 points1 point ago

Colour IR film is rare and disgustingly exoensive. On the other hand B&W IR film is a lot easier to come by and not AS expensive. Be sure to buy a IR720 filter otherwise it won't work.

Source: I shoot B&W IR film

p.s exposure is a pain.

I've heard development can be really finicky, but it sure does look amazing.

Also, don't expect reasonable shutter times unless shooting at high noon in Death Valley.

[–]peachykeenymi 1 point2 points ago

everything looks so much nicer through infrared photography!

[–]LemurFace -1 points0 points ago

Photoshooped.

Thought I was the only one who noticed. Some people..

[–]ruby_byte 0 points1 point ago

At first I was like whoa what unusual colors. Then I was like oh, water is usually blue.

My boyfriend consistently tells me how things on Pinterest were popular on Reddit months beforehand. However, I've seen this picture on Pinterest numerous times since I got one a year and a half ago. HA boyfriend, HA!

[–]Quercus_lobata 0 points1 point ago

Infrared trees pictures were popular on reddit years ago. Though I can't speak to this specific image, so continue feeling smug if you like.

[–]makuserusukotto 1 point2 points ago

And I've seen this picture multiple times on Reddit.

HA!

It's like reposts are everywhere!

[–]briannabear -2 points-1 points ago

At least the actual point of Pinterest is reposting.
