Call the fire department!

[–]necbone 8 points9 points ago

Something's getting ready to die.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 3 points4 points ago

Sad thing is, this is how censor hunters kill cougars. They chase them down with their pack of dogs until the cougar either goes up a tree or is cornered on a cliff. Cowards..

[–]COURTS_HORSES 9 points10 points ago

NO. Don't turn this into something depressing prease.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 6 points7 points ago

Sorry.. big cat hunting (Sport hunting in general..) really sparks rage in me.

Here! Have two baby cougar cubs walking in a puddle!

[–]COURTS_HORSES 2 points3 points ago

...

YOU ARE FORGIVEN.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 3 points4 points ago

Aww! Thanks!

(I am not responsible for any diabetic shock...)

[–]betcheslovethis 1 point2 points ago

This same photo was recently near the front page. Someone pointed out how the bottom right corner had been shopped, most likely to remove the dogs who had chased the mountain lion/cougar up the tree.

[–]Cazminah 0 points1 point ago

Implies this photograph was taken by a hunter then? Or someone with the hunting group...

[–]polarisdelta 4 points5 points ago

This is the internet. You may use the word fuck here if you like.

[–]AvianMinded 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for saving me from thinking that "censor hunters" was the proper name for people that hunt cougars with dogs.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 0 points1 point ago

Yeah.. I should have said fuck, but sometimes it's hard to tell how reddit will react in the context. As evident by the downvote.

[–]necbone 0 points1 point ago

Thats fuckin awful...

[–]princesselectra 2 points3 points ago

I don't know if this is really awww. I think it is more Awe. What a majestic creature and a stunning shot!

I have one just like that, mounted in my basement.

[–]iamnuthumn 2 points3 points ago

I thought that gray branch was a bird, looked closer, nope.

[–]Appalachian_American 2 points3 points ago

What's he doing up there? And Happy Cake Day!

[–]isleshocky 2 points3 points ago

Mountain lions hangout up there.

[–]log_asm 10 points11 points ago

Not really, it was probably being hunted and got treed.

[–]PlantyHamchuk 5 points6 points ago

Yes. This is incredibly depressing not cute.

Ahh, I don't think you get it...

There aren't any natural preditors for these things... Other than dudes with guns.

[–]isleshocky 2 points3 points ago

The cougar is territorial and survives at low population densities. Individual territory sizes depend on terrain, vegetation, and abundance of prey. While large, it is not always the apex predator in its range, yielding to the jaguar, grey wolf, American Black Bear, and grizzly bear. It is reclusive and usually avoids people. Fatal attacks on humans are rare, but have been trending upward in recent years.[5]

[–]bitter_twin_farmer 3 points4 points ago

First off, no way a black bear is taking one of these things down unless its really sick or injured. Grizzly, maybe... but black bear, no way.

Second most of the places where you see these things are not grizzly habitat.

Wolves, that's a wild card. Those things will do some crazy shit when they are hungry.

Gun toting cat killers, #1 cause of death for these rug making kitties.

[–]Owyheemud 2 points3 points ago

These guys routinely wander through my town in Central Oregon. Animal Control has to dart them and take them somewhere far away, usually. They recently had to put one down a few miles east of here, that was preying on goats. It was found to be suffering from an infected gun wound.

[–]just_gharp 0 points1 point ago

Hell, I've seen them several times around Pilot Butte in Bend... "cute" is the last word I'd use to describe them.

[–]LittleSawyer 0 points1 point ago

Several years back there was one coming down towards the town at Detroit lake...if I remember correctly it stocked a deer hunter for a few miles before the hunter gave it warning shots to scare it off. A few weeks later they had to shoot one near that same area for attacking pets.

[–]Rum_Pirate_SC 2 points3 points ago

A wolf pack might be able to take an adult cougar down, but an individual wolf has no chance. So yep on that.

What truly is maddening is how some people just are either just plain ol' too stupid or couldn't care less to be aware of the environment when they go out to the wilderness. Then wonder why they have a bad run in with a predatory animal. Then of course the animal has to be put down.. for doing what is in their nature. Good freaking gods.

(Purely anecdotal as this was in 99, and I don't have a copy of this article anymore) This family went camping out in the Cascades.. (I live near Seattle) and while they were out there, the father noticed a cougar was walking around their site. It was, of course, checking out the people who set up camp in it's territory. So as to be expected, every day when it was patrolling it's territory, it would stop within a distance from them and watch for a bit before moving off. Well as they were hiking out to leave on their last day.. they let their little girl run up ahead. Kid got nabbed by the cougar. Luckily the father was able to scare the cat off his kid and she only had scratches. But ffs.. he KNEW that cat was watching them the entire time they were camping. Why the freaking hells did he allow her to wander up ahead and didn't keep her at their side where she would have been safe?! Of course the forestry/wildlife guys had to track the cougar down and kill it. -.- They should have Gibbs smacked the father and told him that they should have not allowed their child to run up ahead of them. It's their damned fault she was hurt.

[–]isleshocky 3 points4 points ago

No, I get it.. I just don't want to think of it that way.

[–]PlantyHamchuk -1 points0 points ago

Well that's great, I hope you treat all suffering that makes you uncomfortable that way. By ignoring it. /s

[–]isleshocky 1 point2 points ago

Excuse me? I am a big advocate of big cats... I do the best to spread the word about poaching and how it is wrong. You really should check yourself before you make assumptions of people.

[–]PlantyHamchuk -1 points0 points ago

I have a knee-jerk reaction to people stating that they are staying willfully blind in the face of suffering.

[–]bitter_twin_farmer 1 point2 points ago

Keep those filters on. The world is a much nicer place.

[–]Appalachian_American 0 points1 point ago

Now I have to remember to look up, out in the wilderness?

[–]isleshocky 1 point2 points ago

Habits: Cats spend most of their time on the ground, but they are adept at climbing trees. They have learned to climb trees to avoid canid species which is why hunting dogs are often used to hunt the lions. Their chief range preferences are rocky precipitous canyons, escarpments, rim rocks or in absence of these, dense brush. The signpost for a male consists of a small pile of leaves and grasses which he scrapes together, and urinates on.

Being miserable

[–]Catnip_Tea[S] 2 points3 points ago

Thank you :)

[–]mr_sexy_voice 2 points3 points ago

Most likely he is being pursued and treed by a hunter and his dogs. I have seen this photo before, I want to say IdahoOutdoors from Field&Stream.com is the photographer of this photo, but I can't remember if it was one of his or not.

[–]Appalachian_American 0 points1 point ago

Poor kitty. Hope he got away.

[–]mr_sexy_voice 2 points3 points ago

I do not believe this specific cat was being pursued at the moment, I'm pretty sure IdahoOutdoors took the picture though, but normally, a mountain lion sitting in a tree like that, is there because there's about 6-8 dogs underneath him and a loaded gun pointed at him. However, I am fairly certain the only shooting done here was by IdahoOutdoors' camera. You should go to Field&Stream.com and check his profile out, he takes some of the most amazing up close and personal wildlife photography of Western Rockies animals, that I have ever seen!

[–]miniskirtninja 0 points1 point ago

Awww big kitty!

But seriously, my campus had more problem with these guys than sexual predators my freshman year of college...

[–]iLie4Love 0 points1 point ago

there are lions running around your college? scary

[–]miniskirtninja 0 points1 point ago

At my old college anyways, it's a problem that occurs when your campus in on the side of a mountain.

[–]Justinmoo 0 points1 point ago

This cat shall be henchforth known as Gandalf.

[–]isleshocky 0 points1 point ago

Gorgeous cat on a tree. Great pic!

[–]Greenmouse2013 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful kitty. Where was pic taken?

[–]aarghIforget 0 points1 point ago

I... I really wanna pet that tail. o_o

[–]AsskickMcGee 1 point2 points ago

"Excuse me, sir. You gonna eat that baby?"

[–]FuckinGandalfManWoah 0 points1 point ago

That looks so precarious. Cute though :)

[–]Reckless_Bidet 0 points1 point ago

Except this cat can actually get down from the tree.

[–]UrbanRicecake 0 points1 point ago

I see your cat on tree and raise you one cat on bed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEBm5DStfJI

[–]LumosBludger183 0 points1 point ago

this looks like a smaller version of that tree from the hobbit

[–]samsonizzle 0 points1 point ago

This is "aww?" This is bad-ass, that's what this is.

[–]RiotDesign 1 point2 points ago

Why is this aww?

[–]coffeemug20 1 point2 points ago

That cat would like nothing more than to eat your head. That being said it seems like the tree limb would break when the cougar jumps.

[–]Bvixieb 0 points1 point ago

He's waiting for the eagles.

[–]cialowicz 1 point2 points ago

Who's the original photographer? Source? Where did you get this?

[–]krubski 0 points1 point ago

Did this instantly remind anyone else of Heavyweights?

[–]youyesyou15 0 points1 point ago

This actually looks more badass than adorable XD

[–]a_calder 0 points1 point ago

When that eagle gets back, he's in for a surprise.

[–]panderson9 0 points1 point ago

Shhhh, he's hiding.

[–]Begerken 0 points1 point ago

Anyone else convince themselves to imagine the tail as a giant piece of shit? Or was that just your first reaction?

[–]mateo414 1 point2 points ago

repost brah

[–]mydogisarhino 0 points1 point ago

"All I did was say her fur could be a little shinier the BAM! Just like that I'm sleeping in the tree for a week"

[–]Richterer 1 point2 points ago

BABOO. YOU LITTLE POINTY-EARED BASTARD.

[–]FreeVineyards 0 points1 point ago

Wow, what a scene. It really looks like a painting at first glance.

[–]redrawthings 0 points1 point ago

And a cougar in a bare tree. (sing it)

[–]God_Of_Djinns 0 points1 point ago

You've seen a cat on a tree, but have you seen a scooter on a tree? Well you still haven't because that is fake. For more fake pictures of scooters where cats should be, visit /r/CatsToScooters

I guess the eagles Gandalf summoned didn't want to save him, only the dwarves.

[–]VelosiT -2 points-1 points ago

My first thought: "Quick! Shoot it! Shoot it! I can sell its pelt and get that hunting society challenge done!"

And then I realized that I have played waaay too much AC3 in the past week.

[–]ajbnj -1 points0 points ago

HOLY FIND! are you a hunter?

[–]echopeus -1 points0 points ago

she looks like a red head?

[–]atechnicnate 0 points1 point ago

This pic has been around for a long time. I remember seeing prints of it in some doctors office. I considered down voting you because it's so un-original. However, I don't recall seeing it on reddit before and it's your cake day so have an up vote!

[–]kelseytron -4 points-3 points ago

this looks really fake
