It isn't a bad situation at all, after all, I don't have to buy gifts (I do send gifts when I can) so I have plenty of money to get what I want.

My mother called me and told me she was sending me some socks.

My dad is in the same boat (being in the military). He used to come every year but couldn't afford the to take the time off and visit us. When I called him he said he just got done eating a meal of two 40 pc mcnuggets and was watching all of the jurassic park movies

I disagree. I was awarded a day of no interrupting phone calls or 'drop bys.' And was allowed a day of drinking alone without judgment. Single Christmas rocks!
