Wait! If all of the members of Westboro were shot by a raving lunatic, wouldn't that ALSO be "god's will" according to them?

[–]TheBlackSpank 1 point2 points ago

I know I'm a terrible person for saying it, but I would like for this to happen, just to hear them try and explain it. They're no less hateful than the KKK, and both organizations should be wiped from the planet.

[–]WestEndRiot 0 points1 point ago

I don't think you're a terrible person for saying it, they're the terrible people.

[–]GiefDownvotesPlox 8 points9 points ago

One can only hope... They protest military funerals in places in the southern US where the military is Sacrosanct.

[–]btd39 15 points16 points ago

Thank god for the Patriot Guard. Those men and women are amazing. Everyone should check out their website and support them. It's beyond just protecting the families from these protests but our heroes are laid to rest with a hundreds of vets paying their respects.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

I don't wish that on anyone, but I would fell a lot less remorse if it happened to adult members of that "church".

[–]MrDoe 6 points7 points ago

I'm mentally deranged, I'd gladly take care of them. Only the adults, though. I wont do anything wrong against innocent children.

[–]midasMIRV 10 points11 points ago

The children of that hate group have been indoctrinated and are just as stupid and hateful.

[–]TILLIDIE 9 points10 points ago

I seem to remember reading something on reddit about one of the daughters/sons moving out and becoming an lgbt activist. Hope may not be completely lost.

[–]reddeth 1 point2 points ago

Fred Phelps son, actually, became an outspoken LGBT and atheist speaker against his father.

[–]TILLIDIE 1 point2 points ago

Yup that's the one. Good for him for getting out from under the father's thumb.

[–]midasMIRV 0 points1 point ago

Didn't he do an AMA?

[–]the_number_2 6 points7 points ago

But to what degree? Can they still be saved?

[–]3hirdEyE 2 points3 points ago

Best not take any chances.

[–]ch1ck3nch4s3r 12 points13 points ago

I think this thread is going to end up on SRS.

[–]Java980 4 points5 points ago

Money's on that it already has.

[–]Seyla 0 points1 point ago

One was, he did an AMA a while back.

[–]The_Peyote_Coyote 0 points1 point ago

If you'll permit a quote from the wisest wizard I know: "Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. And some that died deserve life. Can you give it to them Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many."

[–]The_Boogueyman 0 points1 point ago

Oop... I accidentaly upvoted you

[–]StarXSick 0 points1 point ago

do it!

[–]DaJia 2 points3 points ago

You would have people murdered for their views?

[–]Teromus 11 points12 points ago

Not their views, but their actions. Two very different things (not saying they should be murdered, but just clarifying). I'm pretty sure no one would give a shit if WBC thought "god hates fags" but its their incessant protesting and hate-mongering that bothers people.

[–]midasMIRV 4 points5 points ago

I hate how they call themselves a church. The Bible explicitly says to "love thy neighbor", and the only thing they do is yell at those who do just that.

[–]Xavr0k -1 points0 points ago

They do claim to love thy neighbours though. They claim to believe that all the shit they do is to save people from hell because they love them. They manipulate what is said in the bible to fit any bigoted view they have.

[–]midasMIRV -2 points-1 points ago

I guess with any viewpoint the Bible can be distorted. Hell, Southerners and pro-slavery Democrats back in the 19th century used the Bible to justify slavery.

[–]DaJia 1 point2 points ago

If we are to be a society where speech is "free," we must get used to being bothered. I think Evelyn Hall said it best: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

[–]wordy_ist_nerdy 5 points6 points ago

But we can as a society or a culture say that certain times and places are not appropriate venues for the expression of contrarian views. Major life events, like births, weddings, and funerals seem like events that should be left alone simply because they are fraught with emotion, cannot be re-lived, and are deeply personal.

I think the Octomom was insane for having so many babies and wanting more, and I would tell her so to her face, but I wouldn't picket the delivery room.

I support gay marriage, but I wouldn't picket the wedding of even the most ardent anti-gay activist.

WBC shouldn't picket funerals, either.

[–]DaJia 3 points4 points ago

I guess I feel scared because this appears to me like a further use of "free speech zones" ie. "you can exercise your rights here, here, but not there or there." In a public place, you should be able to exercise your rights. If you have a funeral on private land (which most are I believe) then you can ban who you want for whatever reason.

[–]xgnarf 1 point2 points ago

the point is that the protesters standing on the sidewalk a hundred feet away aren't on private land, yet their message of hate carries beyond arbitrary public/private boundaries.

[–]wordy_ist_nerdy 1 point2 points ago

I'm not sure if there's a proper way to legislate it, and I see your point about free speech zones.

The WBC's lack of civility is the problem.

[–]GiefDownvotesPlox 0 points1 point ago

I wouldn't have anyone killed. I just honestly wouldn't be too bothered... freedom of speech is protection from government censorship; not freedom to not take responsibility for your actions.

[–]futureisscrupulous 0 points1 point ago

They were going to do that in my town. I guess they got threats or something because they canceled.

[–]mostlyferal 0 points1 point ago

Oh shit, you just discovered what will finally shut down WBC! Logic...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Friend, if logic could shut down groups like WBC, there wouldn't be any groups like WBC.

[–]Proverbial_Fool -2 points-1 points ago

I too, have seen philosoraptor memes on reddit.

[–]khenry666 19 points20 points ago

They really did it.

I'd stop and set down a bucket and curtains everywhere they set up.

Then I'd take a shit. Either they move, or they have to deal with my bucket o' shit.

And when they move, I'll have friends repeat the process.

Wash. Rinse. Repoop.

[–]sanity 6 points7 points ago

Not really a good thing to be doing at someone's funeral.

[–]khenry666 2 points3 points ago

I'm at a protest hundreds of feet away. The funeral won't even know poop is involved.

[–]TheWhyteMaN 0 points1 point ago

This is probably true.

[–]Teamroze 38 points39 points ago

you guys, this wall is meant to turn attention away from the WBC, and all you guys are doing by posting stuff like this is giving them attention anyway

[–]augtastic 9 points10 points ago

Exactly, they're trolls. Every time someone gets them on a TV show or Anonymous hacks their websites, WBC gets exactly what they want: publicity.

People should know by now that you're not supposed to feed the trolls.

Newtown*

[–]Cshock84[S] 4 points5 points ago

Sorry about that. My mistake, old chap.

[–]thequbit 8 points9 points ago

No worries. I grew up in Newtown. Just thought I would point out the mistake.

[–]Cshock84[S] 4 points5 points ago

I believe my iPod may have auto corrected it for some reason.

[–]thequbit 4 points5 points ago

My phone did the same thing when I was writing my first post ha

[–]brujin 3 points4 points ago

I honestly don't understand why they do these kinds of things, (WBC) Explain?

[–]CliffRacer17 9 points10 points ago

They're professional trolls. The Phelps family are trained lawyers and provocateurs. Their goal is to piss someone off enough to attack a member of the WBC and then sue them into oblivion OR sue the pants off local authority for not protecting them. It's how they make their living.

According to the two of Fred Phelp's children that escaped, he's an abusive brainwash artist, who is running the WBC as a cult of personality. Everything he teaches re-enforces and justifies his own behaviors. In summary, it's a money-making, power tripping scheme for the guy at the head of the "church".

[–]austinready96 1 point2 points ago

[–]DBDB7398 0 points1 point ago

Money. The same reason any organized group of horribadness does anything.

[–]scattyckot 1 point2 points ago

You know the WBC is fucked up when the KKK protest against them.

[–]nikerocks123 10 points11 points ago

Westboro Baptist ended up not even showing up in Woodbury (As long as I'm recognizing the right place from the photo) and I think the family of the deceased actually asked for no counter protesting to happen.

[–]mithranor 14 points15 points ago

Wish I had the money to fly there and join this

[–]punx777 0 points1 point ago

Somebody should bring a power drill and drill a hole in the bottom of their transmission pans. Thats about the most sinister thing i can think of.

[–]JuzPwn 3 points4 points ago

Wow even the bikers are getting involved?

[–]CuriousMrE 4 points5 points ago

What's their issue with the victims of the shooting?

[–]Lineov 22 points23 points ago

Essentially, as far as I can understand it, everything terrible that happens in this world is due to the fact that God is punishing us for the sins of the world (mainly homosexuality). So us mourning any victim of a tragedy is us going against what they view as God's punishment.

But Mr. Doe is Right, they're really just Massive Cunts.

[–]cpenoh 12 points13 points ago

I like how you capitalized "Massive Cunts" like it's their official collective title.

[–]DBDB7398 10 points11 points ago

It isn't? Weird.

[–]MrDoe 6 points7 points ago

Their issue is that they're massive cunts, that's what.

[–]mulchman 4 points5 points ago

WBC are just assholes who like to spread their ass-holiness around.

[–]PrincessOfChina 1 point2 points ago

What can they POSSIBLY be protesting against?

[–]yukonmadman 2 points3 points ago

Doesn't this take attention off the murderer? Kind of an unexpected pro of having the WBC. I'd rather they have the spotlight then the killer.

[–]KindaKeCabe 1 point2 points ago

I'm extremely proud to say my father was a member of those police officers. After he left, he called me to let me know what he did and that he loves me. I consider myself lucky to have a role model and father like that.

[–]southPhillyfrank 2 points3 points ago

Great stuff!! Go home westboro kooks

[–]ofurdadi 0 points1 point ago

This is pretty awesome.

[–]WildN0X 0 points1 point ago

I thought the WBC would die down after awhile but I feel they have gotten their second wind. It's sad that a wall had to be made as such but happy that it was.

[–]vicschuldiner 0 points1 point ago

What the fuck business do they have picketing these funerals?

[–]mysterecks 0 points1 point ago

Seriously, where is a gun toting lowlife when you need one eh

[–]Zerowantuthri 0 points1 point ago

Awesome of those people to do that.

Did WBC show up? (I know they said they would)

[–]Final-Hero 0 points1 point ago

Those guys are clowns. They seem to pretty much just protest anything that would piss people off, in order to do "gods will." I feel bad for them.

[–]EnderFenrir 0 points1 point ago

Why does every other post get the name of the town wrong, it is getting out of hand.

[–]Cshock84[S] 0 points1 point ago

I truly am sorry about that.

[–]gamatifox -1 points0 points ago

This really is great

[–]captainfappin 0 points1 point ago

respect

[–]Ironic_Name_598 -4 points-3 points ago

ooooh noooo words, quick everyone get angry and self righteous!

[–]ShamAbram -2 points-1 points ago

I hope they're off duty. That amount of law enforcement is notably symbolic but if I'm paying them to stand around while actual crime is being committed, these guys aren't doing me any service when my house is being robbed or a car just hit my kid. And that's not fair to the taxpayer and harms the very people you swore to protect.

Fuck you for caring about imaginary Internet points.

[–]Cshock84[S] 5 points6 points ago

I actually posted that first one. I could have sworn I deleted it and reposted it because it had incorrect information in it though. As for the others, I haven't seen them. I just posted this because I found it touching. Screw upvotes and Karma. I might karma whore other stuff, but not something like this.

[–]Cshock84[S] 3 points4 points ago

I also upvoted you for pointing that out. I didn't realize it was a repost.

[–]idiotconspiracy -1 points0 points ago

Its cool bro

The biggest problem with the Westboro Baotist Church is that they are lower the expectations of the worst of human beings.
