I appreciate the 2001 reference.

i appreciate you, for appreciating the 2001 reference.

[–]my_god_full_of_stars 7 points8 points ago

You're welcome

I DON'T GET IT

[–]Avuja 2 points3 points ago

Well you see it's a reference to a line from a classic Sci-fi novel written by Arthur C. Clarke called 2001: A Space Odyssey. There you go, the_monol.....son of a bitch.

Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?

[–]Hung_Cholo 0 points1 point ago

"I'm feelin' like Stanley Kubrick, this is some visionary shit"

[–]EvilHom3r 12 points13 points ago

Higher resolution, for those of us with big screens.

I'm sitting at 1920x1080, do you really feel the difference moving up to, say, 2560x1600? If you don't mind me asking, what monitor are you using (if you like it enough to recommend)?

This is Matterhorn Mountain

[–]Journalisto 2 points3 points ago

I had an amazing time snowboarding up there. In bulletproof snow, but it was fun. My buddy thought he'd sit on his board a bit and ride it like a toboggan. Yeah, he never saw that board again. The last glimpse he had of it, it was soaring off into a crevasse of some sort. Good times.

Thank you, my new wallpaper.

I don't see a single star. I was hoping for Harrison Ford or Clint Eastwood, but I would have settled for Johnny Knoxville.

Matterhorn with tilt-shift?

[–]astrobotanical 1 point2 points ago

Fake tilt-shift

[–]redditnotfacebook 0 points1 point ago

the worst kind.

[–]SpookyAlmond 1 point2 points ago

Well, you could do it for free in gimp. Or do it in the lens for 1400 bucks.

[–]redditnotfacebook 0 points1 point ago

except doing it in gimp ignores what tilt-shift actually does to an image. Its more than just randomly blurring the top and bottom.

Looks like the paramount pictures mountain! 'cept more beautiful.

[–]MrJake10 1 point2 points ago

Actually... this is the paramount pictures mountain. It is beautiful, but hardly does the Matterhorn justice.

[–]Cacoo 0 points1 point ago

mother of god...it's...beautiful

[–]70000 0 points1 point ago

Pretty magical, would love to go snowboarding there.

[–]kparis 0 points1 point ago

best acid trip...my god, its full of stars [enter bliss now]

[–]MrJake10 1 point2 points ago

Kinda looks like the "Lonely Mountain", ya know... from middle earth. Well, except for the other mountains right next to it.

[–]gtkid2002 1 point2 points ago

Gotta ask, can I get some tech specs on what this was taken with?

[–]lucyintheskies 0 points1 point ago

That is so beautiful.

[–]ostereje -1 points0 points ago

There is no god.

[–]AnotherMasterMind 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

[–]Tend_to_agree 1 point2 points ago

The quote still reminds me of Robbs Celebs.

RIP Robb.

[–]renaldo686 -1 points0 points ago

How dare you mention God on reddit??? Don't you know he doesn't exist here?

[–]gabsygabs 0 points1 point ago

Hello, new desktop.

[–]redditnotfacebook 1 point2 points ago

This might be better without the photoshop blur.

Pro tip: Depth of Field doesn't really apply when photographing the starry sky.

[–]jtravinski 1 point2 points ago

I came here to say the same thing.

[–]tauntobr 0 points1 point ago

This actually looks like a tilt-shift lens, and a very interesting application of one.

[–]redditnotfacebook -1 points0 points ago

Its not. thats not how tilt-shift lenses work.

[–]Teddybear405 1 point2 points ago

When i look at this it reminds me of the arthur c clarke short story "The 9 billion names of god".

[–]BarbarousPenis 0 points1 point ago

There's a face on the mountain in the middle if you look closely

Depends on how you look at it. If I were a believer in the paranormal I would say those are 'orbs'. I don't believe in the paranormal so I say this is an awesome pic of a beautiful starry sky.
