Thirdly a frozen corpse can't decompose, it's far below the survival temperatures of the known decomposing organisms, as well as it would occur over the whole animal at once, not just the back. This would appear to be the result of animal scavenging, but I am no expert.

Happens a lot in colder areas. Storm blows in, animals like that die standing up and end up freezing solid. In Wyoming about 40 years ago hundreds of antelope were frozen and buried in the snow... made one heck of a eerie find in the spring.
