But, just an FYI. It isn't illegal to mail someone dog droppings. At least not if the source and destination is within the US. I can't speak for international poo.

I'd say shaming them into the oblivion (both the sect and individual people), suing for the smallest things, stifling their every operation/stunt/whatever, and doing that without giving them even a sliver of media coverage.     I disagree. Sure they want the attention, but by ignoring them, by keeping silent it can be seen as condoning them. By raising your voice and saying this is not alright, we will not, we can not accept this sort of behavior, you are sending a message. It will fall on deaf ears in their church, but they are not the only ones listening and watching. It shows support to the people they are protesting. It tells them they are not alone. By staying silent you are letting the bully pick who, when, and where to fight, and you are saying you are okay with it as long as the bully isn't fighting you or the ones you love. Raising your voice against Fred Phelps says who you are not who he is, so does staying silent.

    I agree with you that any response will encourage them, but I also believe that exposing them is a good thing. The more people are aware of just how crazy they are, the harder it will be for them to indoctrinate new people. Furthermore, religious moderates are often driven towards secularism by seeing just how crazy their brothers in faith really are. I don't think that a porn campaign is the way to go about it though, as it makes them feel legitimized without drawing attention to them.

      Actually the best way to defeat them is to create fund raising counter protests. Turn the hate and media attention they get anyway into something good, have a poster and update the money raised every hour. Get people to donate $X.XX for every hour they protest. And donate the money to any of the hundreds of gay charities and organizations. I've seen this happen, as I lived in Kansas, and it really is the best way, they typically don't protest very long if everyone is focusing on the good coming out of it.

          In my elementary school we had a school-wide post office that was student operated. I think the point was to teach kids how to properly mail a letter and that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes of the USPS. Anyway, instead of buying stamps to mail a letter to a friend, you had to use stickers that a teacher gave out for good behavior. Naturally I immediately started looking for a way around this sticker requirement that was bottlenecking my overwhelming urge to mail letters to all of my friends in school. I came up with the plan to put the recipient's name and address (or grade level in this case) as the return address and mine as the recipient address. A foolproof plan. Unfortunately, the fifth grade postal workers did not follow procedure and the letter made its way back to me (because I put my name down as the recipient). They gave no fucks about the lack of a sticker. It was at this point that I realized the elementary post office probably couldn't be trusted to competently deliver my mail so I just hand delivered the letter to my friend who sat directly behind me.

                I don't think they make a living picketing per say. Research them and you've seen these assholes have won several lawsuits. The 'pastor' was a very successful lawyer back in the 60's. He covered civil rights lawsuits.. I think they've kind of had their money. I'd love to see them all die though, and their money be donated to the biggest gay porn film ever. I'm not gay, but I might be willing to suck a dick in that situation.

                I guess that was my point. The image says "They make a living picketing fallen soldier's funerals and gay weddings". But it did start making me wonder how the church makes its money. I can't see many of its members having day jobs. I know they've won some lawsuits, but those were against normal people, who definitely can't afford to finance the church.
