It's also incredibly hypnotizing. Thankfully it's not a full loop of the liquid going both ways, because then I'd be stuck watching it all day.

That just seems like it's begging for someone to make one of those remix things. I was surprised I couldn't find one already.

The chorus is almost already done.

"Nobody said the Pythagorean theorem explains gravity.........well, except John, but he's an asshat."

The water goes down the first time, and then the air goes down the next time.

darn.. i wish it was, i haven't got anything to do allday

[–]AlterBridgeFanALL HAIL 34 points35 points ago

I really need to see more of the beginning, so I can see the two in the top is filled for two seconds or something like that.

[–]k3vk3vk3vin 113 points114 points ago

Just incase, you know, the pythagorean theorem isn't true?

[–]AlterBridgeFanALL HAIL 30 points31 points ago

No, I just like to see more of the gif. I felt like I only watches a small part of it.

[–]k3vk3vk3vin 10 points11 points ago

yeah I agree with that. it was cut way too short.

[–]TrepanationBy45 17 points18 points ago

I read that as

Just in case, you know the Pythagorean theorem isn't true.

And shat bricks

[–]HouseBreaker 14 points15 points ago

Here you go, buddy.

[–]AlterBridgeFanALL HAIL 1 point2 points ago

Thank you.

[–]Aluxh 1 point2 points ago

Also a user above posted a gif version.

[–]zerulia 3 points4 points ago

Can I just say...I'm a huge fan of Alter Bridge. No kidding. Nice to meet you!

[–]AlterBridgeFanALL HAIL 1 point2 points ago

It's also nice to meet you. Have a great day/night/what ever time it is for you with a lot of rock.

[–]zerulia 2 points3 points ago

Can't wait for their new album next year! But in the meantime I'm enjoying Tremonti's All I Was :)

[–]AlterBridgeFanALL HAIL 1 point2 points ago

YES! That album was awesome. I hope Alter Bridge will include some of that. :)

[–]thrifty917 11 points12 points ago

I've used a2 + b2 = c2 a million times but I've never actually understood it until now! Thanks!

petition to change /r/woahdude to /r/gifs

[–]skyman724Space is deep 2 points3 points ago

Petition declined. /r/gifs refuses offer.

Would you like to bomb /r/gifs?

[–]ishatbrx 7 points8 points ago

How about a nice game of chess?

[–]skyman724Space is deep 2 points3 points ago

Be careful. /r/gifs knows their shit when it comes to chess.

[–]k3vk3vk3vin 4 points5 points ago

[–]BamaFan87 0 points1 point ago

This is fantastic. Had to re-watch it twice to fully grasp what I was seeing.

[–]ragefacesofIucy 1 point2 points ago

It bothers me that the triangle wasn't made large enough so that all the corners of the boxes met on the circle...

[–]WhipIash 10 points11 points ago

That's literally impossible. The only way to achieve something like that is to move the triangle a bit up.

[–]oblimo_2K12 2 points3 points ago

Impossible for a right-angle triangle, no matter what. You'd need an equilateral triangle.

[–]CranialEruption 2 points3 points ago

Isosceles would work as well.

[–]oblimo_2K12 4 points5 points ago

thinks Yep. thinks harder I wonder if it must in all cases? brain overheats Dammit I hate when that happens.

[–]KiloNiggaWatt 0 points1 point ago

In which case it would work for a right angled triangle, but not any.

[–]dallashigh 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for giving credit

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points ago

demonstration? more like a visualization. if you didn't know the theorem, this won't help you learn anything about it.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

a ^ 2 + b ^ 2 = c ^ 2

The square on side a plus the square on side b sums up to the square on side c. This "visualization" would have been way more helpful than the weird mathematical abstraction they tried to teach me in middle school.

Edit: Didn't realize ^ formatted to superscript.

[–]the_omega99 4 points5 points ago

Er, why don't you use the superscript?

a2 + b2 = c2

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

Excel, force of habit. I honestly didn't even think to format it like that.

I initially typed it as a2+b2=c2

[–]sighsorrySpace is deep 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, this exactly. I had no idea what was happening and didn't understand the theorem any better because of this. But I could see how it would be good in a classroom when you're learning the concept to help visualize it.

[–]whoelsewoulditbe 2 points3 points ago

but the shape of the containers are square sooooo if you thought outside the box... ;p

[–]SoGnar92 1 point2 points ago

Outside of the square*

[–]dreaganyouth -1 points0 points ago

Yeah and how does the theorem have to do with the lengths of the non-triangle sides of those 3 boxes? Couldn't you just adjust those to make the volumes of the 2 leg boxes sum up to the length of the hypotenuse box, or vice versa?

[–]Taaniel 6 points7 points ago

Squares.

[–]dreaganyouth 0 points1 point ago

Oh hey, they are squares. The circle and the placement of the triangle in relation to the circle created something of an optical illusion to me.

This is the dumbest fucking comment ever.

haha, no, actually, you followed that up almost immediately:

I would have been fascinated by this as a child

completely disregarding the fact that you probably have close to no idea how your brain processed information as a child (and also that you gave yourself some kind of ridiculous distinction as "visual thinker"), do you not even realize how much bias you have in making a statement like that? i'm calling bullshit. find a child and show them this image, then ask them to explain what's happening. thanks.

[–]Mt_Snowtokia 2 points3 points ago

The fact that it's slightly crooked at the end really irks me.

Couldn't they have just done another take?

[–]sandflea 1 point2 points ago

I agree, it's mildly infuriating.

[–]brokendimension 2 points3 points ago

I like how blue the water is.

[–]Deltaway 2 points3 points ago

You can create an anti-proof by putting water in one of the small tanks and ethanol in the other. They don't mix additively, so the mixture won't fill up the big tank!

[–]Rioth 2 points3 points ago

I would totally make the depths different and (try to) troll people!

[–]legalizemarijuana 2 points3 points ago

I'd hit that.

a2 + b2 = c2

[–]AudioFatigue21 3 points4 points ago

The area of the square of the 2 smaller sides is equal to the area of the square of the longest side, the hypotenuse. Or, a2 + b2 = c2

[–]Phillycj 14 points15 points ago

IN A RIGHT ANGLED TRIANGLE

[–]r3volts -1 points0 points ago

Pythagoras theorem.
A2 + B2 = C2

[–]minikrob 1 point2 points ago

It's more like the Al'Kashi theorem (or law of cosines), even if in this case the triangle is right-angled.
Awesome idea !

[–]BlazeOrangeDeer 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, that's what the pythagorean theorem is...

[–]thisguy929 -1 points0 points ago

I wish they explained math like this to me when i was doing geometry and lower level algebra. Maybe it would all make more sense

[–]SnoutmolSpace is deep 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit this makes so much sense.

[–]jerisadSpace is deep 1 point2 points ago

WHERE WAS THIS IN 8th GRADE?!!

[–]Muff_Ryder 0 points1 point ago

so this might be a dumb ques but ive always wanted to know... what can we do with this theorem other than making perfect 90 degree angled triangles?

[–]Jessicaquinn 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand this at all

[–]Ericgzg 0 points1 point ago

But volume... it isn't A3 + B3 = C3

[–]paperbackfilm 0 points1 point ago

All I know and remember is kicking ass in math class all thanks to the pythagorean theorem lesson.
