They are called floaters and can last for a life time. I've had one in my right eye which sits right at my focal point. I see it when I read, drive, watch tv, everything. I hate it. Supposedly you can get them lazered or sonically pulverized though.

I hate seeing these things.. they are a warning sign for me that a migraine is coming on... they cross my vision, disappear, then my head explodes in pain... I've been able to take preventative measures though once I recognize them and know what's about to happen and sometimes can stop the pain from starting.. but this doesn't always work.
