I know. The background image (minus the text) is an illustration from the book Man After Man: An Anthropology of the Future by Dougal Dixon.

The book is a fanciful look at how humans might evolve and diversify into various forms in the future. The two species pictured above are the Symbiont Carrier (big furry white thing) and the Hunter Symbiont (little brown monkey man). They're both supposed to be descendants of Homo sapiens. Here is another illustration, depicting two pairs of these things practicing fisticuffs:

Seriously? That is badass; what was the teacher's rationale for including that book in the curriculum? To get students interested in evolution?

It wasn't on the curriculum, it was just one of the many books we had around in the classroom.

I see. Ever read any of Dougal Dixon's other books? If you liked Man After Man, you'd probably enjoy After Man: A Zoology of the Future. It's essentially about how animals would evolve if humans were to be wiped off from the face of the Earth.
