Half bear, half.... bear?

[–]nssone 112 points113 points ago

That's basically what my dog is. She's half Newfoundland and half Great Pyrenees. She's a good 110 lbs. but I can't really guess her height off-hand.

[–]crossgorilla 33 points34 points ago

Hey! My first dog was a pryrenees! I actually have 2 newfs now and a pyr cross!

[–]Wisps 27 points28 points ago

Do you own a barn to store them in?

[–]nssone 14 points15 points ago

Yeah, my dog is actually the offspring of a purebred Newf and a purebred GP. So she's exactly 50/50 there.

[–]zgh5002 9 points10 points ago

I'm going to have to request some picks of that combo.

[–]nssone 79 points80 points ago

There. A couple puppy pics, a couple older ones.

[–]Winston73 32 points33 points ago

OMG!!!!! LOOK AT IT'S LITTLE FACE!!!!@113121121

[–]dolemite7 27 points28 points ago

Oh, holy shit. My wife loves puppies and says this exact same thing ALL THE TIME. I about shit when I saw it and had to show her. A pic of our 1/4 newf, 3/4 golden idiot. Another.

[–]Shocking 35 points36 points ago

golden idiot

I shouldn't have laughed, but I did. Poor retrievers, can't catch a break... or a frisbee

[–]LoneliestThief 9 points10 points ago

You, obviously, have dealt with some shitty golden retrievers. Mine caught a frisbee once. Yeah. Eat that. It only even took like 250 tries.

[–]juicius 4 points5 points ago

Throw it in the water. They won't catch it, but they'll bring it back and be very happy the whole time... But then they're pretty much happy the whole time anyway.

Wen we were living in Richmond Hill area near Savannah, GA, we had a golden that was pretty much the pack leader of all the dogs in the area. It was a small community at the end of a rural route with no through traffic and all the residents let the dogs roam. They would roam through the salt marshes, swim in the river (brackish most of the times), roll in dirt and basically made a huge mess of themselves. Most people just left huge tubs of food and the dogs would just go from house to house to eat and rest. At night, most would return home. We saw out dog maybe once every two days, except when we saw her leading her pack of 20+ dogs in whatever mischief they were into. Probably the best couple of years of her life, I'm guessing...

EDIT: Since there seems to be some interest, it was here. Zoom out and notice how the river circles back. Our house was right there on that narrow strip of land. It seems to be gone in the Streetview though...

[–]zgh5002 4 points5 points ago

So cute! :D

[–]crossgorilla 8 points9 points ago

Right on! They are all fantastic dogs. Our older Newf is actually of the landseer variety so he gets the wicked black and white colouring.

[–]TedtheTeddyBear 51 points52 points ago

You guys should just fuck already.

[–]pinkfloyd873 5 points6 points ago

Good god, your carpet must be made of dog hair and drool... All joking aside, I love newfies so damn much

[–]Sengura 10 points11 points ago

I like big dogs and I can not lie! You other brothers can't deny!

[–]inthemorning33 4 points5 points ago

Our GP is a curse I tell you, every time the neighbor starts the car, WOOF WOOF WOOF right by the bedroom window at 5am in the morning. I work night shift, and this is about the time I have fallen asleep. This dog barks at everything. Alot of time I honestly feel that he is barking at nothing. Ive watched him bark while I'm outside and there is no evidence of any kind of disturbance anywhere.

[–]treetrunk30 1 point2 points ago

Your dog is most likely bored and full of energy. He barks to entertain himself. This is also why some dogs dig. To calm him, take him on a tiring walk, one that will make him sleepy as soon as you get home.

[–]thepasswordisfish 9 points10 points ago

My bernese mountain dog's got you beat at 130. When I tell little kids he's half bear they believe me.

[–]Groffon 6 points7 points ago

Psssshhhh my Rottweiler is 135 lbs.

[–]chadford 6 points7 points ago

my newf is 185 :)

[–]Itchy_Craphole 13 points14 points ago

205 saint....

[–]bflizzle 11 points12 points ago

2800 lb highland bull..

[–]thus-sung 3 points4 points ago

My buddy just got a dog that's half Great Pyrenees and half St Bernard. He's about a year old and a little over a hundred pounds. He's going to be huuuuge once he fills out! Beauty of a beast, though.

[–]nssone 8 points9 points ago

OMG, the slobber....

[–]Givants 0 points1 point ago

I saw a new foundie at a mall once (outside). The owner said it was 180 pounds, that damn dog was so beautiful, I fell in love with it right away, so docile and passive. My love was short founded since it was a lesbian, she couldn't stop sniffing my gf crotch :/

[–]Patienceisavirtue1 64 points65 points ago

Half dog, half photoshop.

[–]M3ggers04 75 points76 points ago

This is the actual size, no photoshop. The dog is leaning ahead a little more and the woman is back further to the hind of the dog, which gives that HOLYFUCKINGGIANT effect. My grandfather has two. they are the most cuddly, playful and nicest dogs ever. Usually the males are bigger than the female.

If anyone ever wants to see one and they are in Newfoundland, drop by Signal Hill. There are usually a few there. Source: I am newfie.

[–]FarFromXanadu 11 points12 points ago

The hoax was they were a breed of Newfoundland dogs bred to hunt bears?

Uh. How many bears are in Newfoundland?

[–]WindReaver 63 points64 points ago

Obviously, the new breed of dog worked.

[–]FarFromXanadu 15 points16 points ago

... Oh.

[–]Alborak 17 points18 points ago

The only Newfie I've met had no idea he weighed about 150 lbs. He'd greet you with a nudge that could knock you over. Really nice, but at least that one was really dumb. And the hair. My god that hair is everywhere.

[–]evillozer 13 points14 points ago

Before my mastiff, I had a great dane. He had the same problem. He didn't realize that he was bigger than most people and wanted to play like he was a puppy.

[–]Philosiphicator 7 points8 points ago

That's one of the best parts about Danes!

[–]Xyncx 9 points10 points ago

Totally not photoshop. I've seen them that big before. Bigger, even.

[–]machetebrownsugar69 7 points8 points ago

What breed?

[–]rmbanks 39 points40 points ago

Newfoundland. I believe this is a largely the result of forced perspective, especially with the dog up on the grooming table. Newfies are large, but that's quite exaggerated.

[–]Gold-Ghost 23 points24 points ago

Definitely a Newfoundland (the drool on the chest and the big head with nothing inside of it gives that away)

As for the perspective it definitely looks that way for this pic, but I have a Newf almost that size, he was around 80KG and if sitting would be mid chest hight, he was huge even for a newf, saddly he died at around 3 years old (the bigger they get the more problems they generally have)

source: I have owned 4 newfoundlands

Edit: I should give a shoutout to the /r/Newfoundlander subbreddit

[–]evillozer 5 points6 points ago

I've always had large breeds and it sucks they have such short lifespans.

[–]wellactuallyhmm 2 points3 points ago

I actually think our Newfie was really smart. He could open the doors by himself, and had great emotional intelligence if that makes any sense.

[–]snowlion18 1 point2 points ago

there is play on camera angle though, and girl size may be on the smaller side. yes they are big but...

[–]reddit111987 9 points10 points ago

No Man-Bear-Pig references in this thread? WHAT THE FUCK, GUYS?

[–]Freddytiptoes 1 point2 points ago

Half Hagrid.

[–]HowsItBeenBen 0 points1 point ago

100% photoshop

[–]Lazerspewpew 195 points196 points ago

That's no dog...that's a space station.

[–]kasirate 64 points65 points ago

Chewie, lock in the auxiliary power. CHEWIE, LOCK IN THE AUXILIARY POWER!!!

[–]empireofnyy 78 points79 points ago

AAAGRGRHHAAGGH

[–]Phordh 5 points6 points ago

God dammit, Threepio, I know what he said!

[–]tevert 7 points8 points ago

Chewie's too busy trying to put the moves on.

[–]lostribe 111 points112 points ago

i bet he plays fetch with a soccer ball

[–]evillozer 155 points156 points ago

I have a 240lb English Mastiff. His toys are made for horses.

[–]TheGreatNico 38 points39 points ago

My sister threatened to shoot me if I bought her mastiff a horse ball.

[–]thepasswordisfish 4 points5 points ago

My bernese mountain dogs adore their horse ball ):

[–]djsjjd 27 points28 points ago

240lb !!??!!??!! How much does it eat and how do you control it?

I've owned three 60-70lb greyhounds that are considered "large" breeds . . . I can't imagine 240lbs.

[–]Lactose_Intolerable 89 points90 points ago

how do you control it?

You pull the reins and say "Whoa".

[–]the__itis 53 points54 points ago

I raised mine from 8 weeks. If i make one noise of disapproval he stops whatever it is that he was doing and stares at me like he is going to cry.

[–]tarrox1992 2 points3 points ago

I have a big dog too, although she's only 90ish pounds, but I've had her since she was 3 weeks old (her mom was a golden retriever that a mastiff got to, and the big puppies were making her sick by eating so much). Sometimes I feel like she can understand what I'm saying she listens so well.

[–]thorns0014 6 points7 points ago

I obviously have the largest dog crown in this thread with a short haired miniature dachshund wringing in at a whopping 12 pounds. Suck it bitch.

[–]atcBW 17 points18 points ago

I used to walk a neighbors English mastiff. I'm 195lbs. The dog was 215. You wrap that leash around your forearm 3-4 times and lean back. Just have to remember. When that dog is done walking, it is DONE walking. So don't go too far.

[–]surgeon591 5 points6 points ago

I have a Newfoundland thats just over 200lbs (he's above average size for the breed but they can get bigger), and he really doesn't eat as much as you'd think. They're quite lazy so they really don't need that much, you have to be careful not to overfeed them.

I've never had a problem controlling my dog, Newfs are usually gentle giants and learn basic commands pretty easily. He never pulls when he's on a leash, my 8 y/o niece can walk him without any problems.

[–]trampus1 4 points5 points ago

70 pounds sounds gigantic for a greyhound.

[–]djsjjd 7 points8 points ago

Not really - it is actually on the small end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyhound

All of my greyhounds (and most in the US) were adopted out of the racing industry - which bulks them up with muscle through a diet of raw beef and steroids. Even though they are lean, they are pure muscle and have no false appearance of bulk from their fur. They are so lean, that many cannot swim - they just sink. (I pulled one out of a pool that she accidentally got into).

Two have passed, but my remaining girl is 12 years old and you can still see the muscle striation of her hind legs through the fur.

They are also calm, docile and make great pets if any of you are considering adopting a dog.

[–]the__itis 5 points6 points ago

there are two 90-100 LB greyhounds that frequent our dog park. Its awesome because they have those LED dog collars.... when it gets dark and they take off running, its insane to see those lights just whipping around the park.

[–]evillozer 2 points3 points ago

He is a huge baby. He will not come inside the house, so he lives in the garage. He barely fits through an extra large doggy door to get outside. He eats a 50lb a month and has his own heater, a/c, and fan.

[–]Blahblag12321 29 points30 points ago

I'll bet he poops footballs.

[–]I_LIKE_NEUTRAL_KARMA 0 points1 point ago

xD

[–]whatspeerpressure 113 points114 points ago

When he play bites, you play dead

[–]pinkeyedwookiee 33 points34 points ago

Not really, these dogs have a very soft mouth from their breeding of rescue dogs and the temperament of a teddy bear on a good day.

[–]Banaam 5 points6 points ago

Aren't they also hunters? That's another reason for a soft mouth, one doesn't want ruined birds.

[–]corn_puddin 7 points8 points ago

Naw, newfies hate gunfire in general, they are nanny dogs or rescue animals, but I have a cart for mine to carry wood. Like this but my dog is brown

[–]Thameus 23 points24 points ago

No, I'm a large animal vet, I don't do dogs.

You haven't seen this dog.

[–]shadylady76 20 points21 points ago

You had me at "big black motherfucker".

[–]mswabs 12 points13 points ago

[–]hand_in_kak 15 points16 points ago

What breed is this lil' fella? Newfie?

[–]M3ggers04 13 points14 points ago

Newfoundland dog, you are correct.

[–]zoeypayne 33 points34 points ago

Photoshopoodle.

[–]ForgettableUsername 5 points6 points ago

I used to have one of these that looked just like Vladimir Putin.

[–]lagadu 3 points4 points ago

[–]publicanemonies 8 points9 points ago

I want to ride it.

[–]mormontroll 21 points22 points ago

Colby 2012

[–]HiterallyThis 4 points5 points ago

Finally a Colby reference that was actually relevant!

[–]Five_deadly_venoms 8 points9 points ago

You have to be level 40 to epic mount it.

[–]Blahblag12321 25 points26 points ago

Eh gad! Look how small that woman is.

[–]xerxes_herpes 12 points13 points ago

Forced perspective maybe...

[–]Cricketot 11 points12 points ago

I would like a Caucasian shepherd.

[–]talashira 11 points12 points ago

You want a member of one of the most aggressive dog breeds on the planet?

[–]sirralen 3 points4 points ago

Maybe he has a honey badger problem.

What else are you going to fix a honey badger problem with? Assault rifles and body armor don't grow on trees.

[–]Cunt_Whisperer 5 points6 points ago

No, it's a Newfoundland dog. This picture was taken in a small dog grooming shop close to Montmagny in Quebec and was posted on their facebook page, but I can't recall the name of it. The dog owner was very pround of it, and it's a female.

I personally like the title of this post the best.

[–]XSC 10 points11 points ago

I can't feel bad for the guy who gave it the title HOLY COW, This is a HUGE dog. He deserves those 3 points and nothing more.

[–]NoLongerNeeded 3 points4 points ago

Agreed. The picture was interesting, the title was the amusing part.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Never saw it before, so I don't care.

[–]NilesCranee 10 points11 points ago

not as big as it looks, his head is like 3 feet closer to the camera than hers. you can tell by the metal bar next to his head. still big as fuck tho!

[–]Datbighuge 5 points6 points ago

That looks like Hercules from The Sandlot ,I bet he eats children when no one is looking..

[–]trampus1 3 points4 points ago

Hercules was a mastiff. But the first thing I thought of too was "the beast".

[–]wild-tangent 6 points7 points ago

Mouse? Where's Harry?

[–]Aspel 2 points3 points ago

Every thread with a Caucasian Shepard, I hope to get the first one.

Mouse is my favorite dog ever. Sorry, Murphy, sorry, Brindle, sorry, Pepper. You aren't Fu Dogs.

[–]Bella304 2 points3 points ago

Look a giant pug !!

[–]Breccles 3 points4 points ago

I wonder how big his poops are

[–]GFNoobs[S] 18 points19 points ago

Gargantuan.

[–]Iamthesmartest 5 points6 points ago

You know I've always liked that word...gargantuan...so rarely have an opportunity to use it in a sentence.

[–]nickx182 2 points3 points ago

That is legitimately frightening.

[–]Imsoicey 2 points3 points ago

Was not expecting a dog...

[–]Kingkong29 2 points3 points ago

What the hell do you feed that thing??

[–]invader_jun 23 points24 points ago

Smaller dogs.

[–]dertydood 2 points3 points ago

"Easy, Chewie!"

[–]biwinning12 2 points3 points ago

Clifford has a black brother...they were separated at birth.

[–]ilikethis89 2 points3 points ago

He plays fetch with a Prius

[–]ogebear 1 point2 points ago

This title reminds me of beastiality.

[–]bad_platitude 2 points3 points ago

[–]Posing_Hipster_011 0 points1 point ago

The beast

[–]wcmerritt 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit, that thing is a beast. I feel sorry for whoever's mother he fucked.

[–]spiderjjr45 1 point2 points ago

Guys, it's not photoshop, it's just an illusion of perspective. The dog is clearly much closer to the camera on the platform, and the nurse is standing a little ways behind the dog.

[–]Johnny_Blaze 0 points1 point ago

why's he gotta be a motherfucker just cause he's black

[–]USAinMiddleEarth 0 points1 point ago

Must be hell for the family when that bear dog hibernates in the kitchen

[–]pinkeyedwookiee 0 points1 point ago

Gotta love the newfs. The drool hanging from the chandeliers and hair everywhere is worth it.

[–]wheresthatcat 0 points1 point ago

Best part about this dog is that he is happy as fuck.

[–]Kermetthefrog 1 point2 points ago

Redditors love reposts

[–]Gilgifax 0 points1 point ago

Are you sure that's a dog and not a puppet from the Jim Henson studios?

[–]Doggie_Afuera 0 points1 point ago

And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads. And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”

[–]Indetermination 0 points1 point ago

This is perspective. The dog is actually much larger than this picture suggests.

[–]SketchJoseph 0 points1 point ago

Thats the beast from the sandlot.

[–]mariahx12 0 points1 point ago

Real or stuffed?

[–]RudegarWithFunnyHat 0 points1 point ago

should have kept him away from that bitch if they bread the pupps will be playing the banjo

[–]GimmeHugs -1 points0 points ago

I always wanted a dog mount.

[–]oD3 0 points1 point ago

Jesus Christ!!! It's like a fricken bison.

[–]avenlanzer 1 point2 points ago

Maybe It's because I'm drunk, but "HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!"

[–]sneezylee 0 points1 point ago

Perspective.

[–]Jvlivs 0 points1 point ago

The sad part is that i bet his lifespan is 2 years. Okay not really, but a big dog like that will have a shorter life than most, unfortunately.

They're like the ununoctium of dog breeds.

[–]PoisonLilith 1 point2 points ago

I so want one of those!

[–]CliffordFranklin 0 points1 point ago

Clifford Franklin is the only real Clifford

[–]scudmonger -1 points0 points ago

Perspective, people. Use the bar on top of him for measure. He is closer to the camera, and his fur makes him look a lot larger.

[–]mattua 0 points1 point ago

I like how people take time out of their day to downvote a big cute dog.

[–]Wisps 0 points1 point ago

The title made me lol more than anything.

[–]deadkandy 0 points1 point ago

So let's be honest, I expected a NSFW tag request and a completely different picture....yet I'm so twisted I still clicked

[–]skizers 1 point2 points ago

I've seen porn with the same title

[–]reden 1 point2 points ago

Oh, so this is the dog that shits out Chocolate labs.

[–]FetishOutOfNowhere -1 points0 points ago

Is that Skrillex?

[–]apocal7964 0 points1 point ago

How do we know this isnt from a vet in hobbiton and she is really a hobbit?

[–]Thisismyderpstick -1 points0 points ago

Though this is a repost. The title made me laugh for a good 5 minutes. Thanks.

[–]paddlegal 0 points1 point ago

looks shopped, look at her right wrist/arm.

[–]kuhlguymccabe 0 points1 point ago

Jesus Christs testicles that's a big mother fucker.

He should play basketball.

[–]ForgettableUsername 0 points1 point ago

This is actually a very small dog and an incredibly tiny woman, so there is no need to get excited.

[–]lixingke 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like an audio book Samuel L Jackson needs to do.

[–]rediesel 0 points1 point ago

why the fuck would you want a dog that big?

[–]Lostmypw 0 points1 point ago

"That's a huuuge bitch!"

[–]punkrockprotege 0 points1 point ago

GOD. DAMN.

[–]Letheron88 0 points1 point ago

Mother Daayyymn! That's a big ass dog! :O Or a hobbit dog groomers.

[–]danosaurus_ 0 points1 point ago

Big dog? ...or small vet in a small office 0_o

[–]champjetcity 0 points1 point ago

Sirius?

[–]DurpaDurpa 0 points1 point ago

I know a woman who had three of these she brought then round a couple of times it was amazing seetng them play with my terrier cross who is about a foot off the floor.

[–]vakarute 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why humans insist on exaggerating so much. The dog is clearly big but using perspective and a smaller than normal person to make him look bigger is just silly.

[–]siggysiggy 0 points1 point ago

NEWFOUNDLAND!

[–]nxscuban 0 points1 point ago

Anyone have any stuff I can read on why dogs like these are protective of children? Or any breed? Do they notice they are hopeless or something

[–]rospaya 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

[–]theflyingrusskie 0 points1 point ago

I saw the title and was disappointed when it was not Rick Ross dressed up as Clifford the big red dog.

[–]bornTobyWild 0 points1 point ago

is that the mother?

[–]xiandrii 0 points1 point ago

wow, that's a very furry horse!

[–]RodrigoAlves 1 point2 points ago

You should call him Hagrid.

[–]effervescent_shitsta 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god........i want one

[–]cymjas 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry, I don't normally post on pics, but in this case I have to make an exception.

Saw the pic, read the title. Started laughing.
Remembered the book, laughed harder. Read it in my favorite uncle's voice, completely lost it.

Laughed so hard I managed to get a crick in my neck.

Too funny. Well done.

[–]tsenzen 0 points1 point ago

The steamer this badboy lays out must be atrocious.

[–]Zophory 1 point2 points ago

...weird, you know the name of my penis but this is clearly a dog.

[–]frymaster 0 points1 point ago

Did he get that human from a shelter or did he go to a human mill?

[–]Scampjock 0 points1 point ago

Holy effing shit.

[–]zsombro 0 points1 point ago

Goddamnit Clifford you are cool as shit

[–]CharredCereus 1 point2 points ago

I'd love a newfie. They're huge, strong and dumb as a box of rocks, but they're the cuddliest things ever. A lot of larger dog breeds are actually, why would you breed giants with the will to harm you? These guys are basically big teddy bears. That drool a lot.

[–]DeaDBangeR 0 points1 point ago

Its like scribblenauts. Someone took out their notepad and wrote down the following: "giant ridable dog". Wish i could add "flying" too..

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

I have a problem believing this photo is real.

[–]DocInk 0 points1 point ago

I'm not on here that often and even I know this is a serious repost...

[–]jocarbart 0 points1 point ago

Dog! Do you even lift?

[–]Balthor2579 0 points1 point ago

Newfys are my fave. Gentle giants, and unmatched in their aquatic proficiency.

[–]Morrisaurus -1 points0 points ago

The big ones are always black

[–]minerfury 0 points1 point ago

This dog clearly has manga eyes!

[–]FreeFoodFight -1 points0 points ago

I feel bad for the groomer. That's like half a day's worth of work.

[–]I_AM_DESTROYA -1 points0 points ago

If you look he's sitting on a table.

[–]Firejen 0 points1 point ago

As a groomer, this dog looks like a nightmare...

[–]pete21121 0 points1 point ago

That's clearly a horse in a dog costume.

Or a bear that's had a stroke.

One of the two.

[–]Elboxo 0 points1 point ago

I think it's the dog's eyes that get me, "Am I kawaii? Uguuuuuuuuu"

[–]ZebraSquirrel 0 points1 point ago

Please don't show this to my wife, because she will want one....lol.

[–]lilmama0703 0 points1 point ago

Way too big.

[–]thunder_goes_BOOM 0 points1 point ago

I love newfies!

[–]TombSv 0 points1 point ago

What's with all the strange photos and black dolls in the background?

[–]Dr_Thomas_Roll 0 points1 point ago

What do you do when you take him walkies, carry a shovel?..

[–]PoofyHairedIdiot 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god. A Black Arcanine. SOMEBODY FETCH MY POKEBALLS

[–]CyanideKitty 0 points1 point ago

Good job getting the big guy up on a table! At my old salon unless the newfie got on the table on it's own we groomed them on the floor. Grooming on the floor was a pain in the ass but it was better than half the salon being out with back problems, lol.
