If a single paycheck makes that big of a difference to you then I have bad news for you. You are poor.

[–]bacon_cake 74 points75 points ago

Welcome to 90% of the population. Living paycheck to paycheck is no longer uncommon.

[–]username572 9 points10 points ago

90%? No, not quite. It's actually closer to 40%.

[–]Tiktaky 4 points5 points ago

In America it's 40%, worldwide I wouldn't be surprised to find it's 90%

[–]tcallanan87 0 points1 point ago

he's right, and one step further, it only takes 32k to put you in the world's 1%

[–]dren_drawkcab 23 points24 points ago

I believe it's 47%, President Mr. Romney.

[–]username572 4 points5 points ago

No, it's actually 38%. I rounded up.

Terrible joke.

[–]LouisianaBob 2 points3 points ago

when was it?

[–]Thebearshark 13 points14 points ago

Or, a majority of redditors are college students

[–]username572 2 points3 points ago

But also poor. I worked my way through college and was not paycheck to paycheck.

[–]Realworld 8 points9 points ago

It's a puzzle. My trucker friend is in his 50s, made $50K a year, and was literally broke a few days after each paycheck. I had a rising bank account even back in my minimum wage days. I don't understand the logic of being a spendthrift.

[–]KarmaUK 1 point2 points ago

I think many people just live according to their means, whether they're on $20k a year or $200k.

If you've got the money, suddenly you're taking taxis sometimes where a bus would do, going to a steakhouse instead of just grabbing a McD's etc, etc.

[–]Tiktaky 3 points4 points ago

There are some strange things that affect how far your paycheck goes. I'm earning the same I was last year, But this year at the end of the week I have about $50 spare to go into savings.

The difference is that last year I was going from home-to home and living in short term rent. Little things like cutlery, using the laundromat and having to take the bus and train to work on top of unpredictable rent ate into my paycheck.

Now that my housing situation is stable I can afford to buy in bulk and I don't have to throw out 50% of my shit when I move, as well as ride my bike closer to work to save on transport costs.

I'm also doing better in terms of my health, I'm spending less money at the doctors, and now that I've moved out I don't have to worry about buying things for family members.

I wasn't poor in college but I went to school with a lot of upper middle class people so that's who my friends are, and I guess I was "poor" only in comparison to them. But most of them are now in grad school or at jobs that don't pay a whole lot, while I became a software engineer straight out of undergrad. I don't spend much money on material objects so now I finally have money to do fun things with except everyone else is broke.

[–]roguerpi 2 points3 points ago

Not just a single paycheck, but the date that you GET your check...

Yeah. That's poor.

I been there, but like... it's not good.

Can anyone give some info on the source/context of this image? I don't think I've ever seen an image with such a display of emotion from her, I'd interested to see the cause.

[–]J-ohn 2 points3 points ago

It's in Scotland, at a Highland Games. Some time just after the Olympics

[–]captainjon 0 points1 point ago

Do you have the source link or original caption? I too like to know more

[–]J-ohn 0 points1 point ago

[–]J-ohn 2 points3 points ago

[–]Kristyyyyyyy 0 points1 point ago

[–]Dockle 0 points1 point ago

But what are they actually laughing at?

[–]GALACTIC-SAUSAGE 0 points1 point ago

Fliff, fliff, fliff.

[–]MstrKief 1 point2 points ago

That's how I feel being a server, every single day :).

[–]therealjoshua 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand why Reddit can't just laugh at something and move on.

[–]FordSVT1 1 point2 points ago

And pass up the opportunity to judge someone and tell them their life is terrible? Come on, look who you're speaking to here....

[–]GiveMeBlueArrows 0 points1 point ago

That's exactly what your friends are all saying the next day when they get paid and you're broke again.

[–]Samccx19 0 points1 point ago

Oh look mother! A commoner! Can I keep him?

[–]mishichai 0 points1 point ago

I have enough money to buy everything I need, quite a bit of what I want, to save for retirement and to go on vacations every year. Fuck rich. Damn it feels good to be middle class!

[–]bajablazer85 0 points1 point ago

As the only person in my apartment with a job, this is me 24/7

[–]Themlizards 0 points1 point ago

OR did you get paid wayyy after them?

[–]FordSVT1 0 points1 point ago

How do you feel when you run out of money before they do at the end of your pay period?

[–]Valdrec 0 points1 point ago

Man, I am so looking forward to getting money in six days.

[–]jjwalla 0 points1 point ago

How I feel when all my friends are 20 plus and refuse to get jobs.

[–]paleskies 0 points1 point ago

I read it as before = "in front of" and scratched my head for a minute...

[–]jizzquiz 0 points1 point ago

USAA releases direct deposits a day earlier than the set payday, as in as soon as they receive the funds, instead of hanging on to them. So I always get paid the day before coworkers. It's pretty much awesome.

[–]StrangeCaptain 0 points1 point ago

this isn't funny

[–]Dizzybro 0 points1 point ago

The queens actually not that rich...all their wealth is invested into their properties. The queen regularly wears clothes that are many years old to save money

[–]madsell 1 point2 points ago

i'll be poor again in 2 days when my rent is due so hahaha...yeah, college sucks.

[–]stply369 1 point2 points ago

[–]Inane_Asylum -1 points0 points ago

USAA + direct deposit = paid on Thursday.

[–]8lbSweetBabyJesus 0 points1 point ago

Just means I'm broke a day or two earlier.

[–]binarybandit -5 points-4 points ago
