Yes RES doesn't really care where you downvoted someone from.

I think you are correct, if you simply click someone's username and downvote everything, it won't count.

That's weird, I remember running across a royal douche at one point and in my half-drunk state decided I'd downvote everything that guy had said. I remember refreshing his comments page and his karma was markedly lower than when I started. Maybe it was just coincidence and 250 other people decided to downvote a comment of his during those 5 minutes but still.

It might be a misunderstanding, the more votes a link has, the less each single vote counts. So for example, when you upvote something on the frontpage, it only counts as a fraction of a regular vote, when you vote for something new, it counts as a whole vote.

Oh god how I wish this was true... I picture a time in which you could actually go to a bar and engage a conversation with a stranger about your job, finding things in common and just laughing about the little things in life. Sure, that sitll happens, but mostly, bars are filled now with immature douchebags who can barely hold a job and who are just prepping up to go to the club, and the only thing about which you can have a semi intelligible conversation with them is about girls. Slutty girls and poor decisions. Either that, or closed people who only talk with their colleagues... I mean, of course you can still meet new people at a bar, that's what you go there for, but I can't shake the feeling that that whole atmosphere used to be more intelligent, and have more class.

By and large, I totally agree with you. However, you have to go to the kind of bars described as hole-in-the-wall or local watering holes to find normal people that work in the day and drink in the night. I go to a place near my house and the music is never very loud, the drinks are stiff as fuck and the people are just looking for a place besides home to go drink and talk. I wouldn't describe the clientele as intelligent or classy, but it's way better than the typical drink-fuck-fight, dollar-eating, idiot bars that you describe and we both abhor.
